Beauty Confessions: I Like Window Shopping Fake MAC on Evil-Bay

Beauty confession, I love browsing fake MAC on Evil-bay.

Seriously, it’s my guiltiest online pleasure. I’m easily amused so some of these products make me bust a gut laughing!

Have a look!

How E-bay lets people get away with selling these products is beyond me but it sure is great for laughs!

Any online beauty confessions you’d like to share?

About the Muse

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. But she’s passionate about makeup and is seeking like-minded individuals that like pina coladas, getting caught in the rain, and ones that enjoy spending hundreds of dollars at Sephora without feeling buyer’s remorse. Did you see some of the Wonder Woman ones? Those were hilarious!! I’ll try to find one and post the link.. They were shaped something like the ones in the leopard pic.

    • the Muse

OMG yes! they are so so funny! I couldn’t post your link as it displays the ebay seller’s name etc but I def have seen some of these SO funny ;D!

  • tina

some of them are funny but it also saddens me that people actually think these are real….

    • Ruth

I have some of the fake MAC and I actually think that some of it is better than the real thing! the liquid eyeliner doesn’t migrate or dry out in a couple of days and the mascara doesn’t flake off under my eyes. I’m not that inpressed with MAC’s eyemakeup but their lippie stick is great!

      • sophie

WHERE did you GET the eyeliner ive been looking all over for decent fakes….also does anone know ofa fake mac website where the colour has the mac labell of what its meant to be instead of just a number !!!!!!!!!!!

  • Macnunu

Dude I was really bored one day and decided send a couple of the sellers a message along the lines of “Hey did you know the stuff you are selling is fake?” you know, give them the benefit of the doubt n all.
One lady emailed me back and said that the stuff she is selling is real MAC, made by the same factory, and it’s just products that weren’t selected by MAC in the end to be sold at the shop and that if I bother her again she is gonna report me.
    xD
I had a smile on my face for hours after that.

  • Anitacska

What’s not at all funny is that lots of people actually buy these for quite a lot of money. Yes, they should do their research in advance, but I think some just see Mac and think they must be genuine. Very sad really. I have bought some pigments before I knew how many fakes there were on eBay and they are actually very very close, there are only very slight differences, something that people who don’t know much about Mac wouldn’t notice at all. 🙁

  • Vijayta

My cnfessn- as a beginner i hav bought fake mac stuff over evil bay. I still laugh over my naivete even now

  • Littlecreek

LOL! I’ve never looked up fake MAC before. I have searched for Tiffany’s. My favs are the ones that claim original packaging and they have some jacked up logo on a random blue bag. Ah good times.

  • Nana

I’m totally one of those people who is fooled! Although I like Mac, I’m not a super fan enough to tell they are fake. The only superrrrrrr obvious one *to me* is the 180 palette which I laughed at XDD

  • Nana

And if mac ever sold the leopard palette I’d TOTALLY get it!!! SO CUTE!!!!!

  • Helen

God only knows what chemicals are in these products! So scary that people buy them! Did you catch that the “Professional” 180 color eyeshadow palette is listed for an astounding $152.50?!!!!!!!!!!!!! That’s some seriously bad Karma!

      • Helen

that’s cut plain nuts?! you would think someone with $150.00 to burn on makeup would have the sense to check the MAC website to see if such a thing existed– or better yet, to know the brand well enough to know that this palette never existed. sad how easily people can be fooled by ruthless scammers (who are undoubtedly laughing! as they sell a $5.00 palette for 30 times what it’s worth!!

  • eight

LOL. I haven’t bought cosmetics from Ebay before, but I’d probably only buy Asian stuff and hope for the best 😛

One of my guilty pleasures is reading bad reviews of companies… I know I shouldn’t take pleasure in people getting bad product or a company being shady, but I find it almost cathartic reading their rants! Plus, it makes my wallet happier adding another company/product on my Do Not Buy list.

  • Elle

One of my hight school Gl friend bought Mac hello kitty an eyeshadow palette from Taiwan’s yahoo that such as eBay.
She got a fake palette however she didn’t know and still show off on her blog. Silly Gl.
Thoese products r from HK or China. Even u go shopping some cosmetics stores in Hong Kong and u might buy a fake still. Suddenly, u will confused about items package when u see it. That’s pretty hard to know which is real and fake

  • Rads

Wowww! There’s so much fake MAC….it’s sad when people don’t know the difference and end up buying these!!!!!!

  • Comrade Garlic

I was looking at that HK brush set on amazon.com. I had to go back and research it, because I couldn’t remember if that collection had brushes. I wasn’t going to but it, it just looked off. MAC produces so many collections it is easy to forget.

  • Michelle

I have now given up buying nearly ANYTHING on eBay now, unless it’s for a discontinued Maybelline lipstick or something like that. It seems like there’s a way to counterfeit everything.

I almost got ripped off for a pot of MAC Satin Taupe until I had a hunch to check some beauty blogs and this blogger showed some pics of real vs. fake MAC pots…then I saw that the item I wanted to buy was fake. It makes me really sad that so many people are getting ripped off by this stuff.

But the Coastal Scents palettes marked as MAC…now, those are hilarious!!! 🙂

    • Colleen

What’s even funnier is that coastal scents are buying their stuff from HK and China and selling it at a huge mark up.

  • kiwikiwidragon

I thought it was funny that there was one seller who admitted that she got them from a secondary seller and did not know of they were real or not. So, so shady.

  • Jo

The Mickey Mouse one looks the most ‘MAC’ and I’d actually quite like to see that happen! Apart from the sponge applicator! The Hello Kitty ones are also kind of close if you are new. I would have been fooled a couple of years ago anyway…!

  • niamh D

that last cheetah palette my brothers girlfriend picked up in china for like 50c (euro’s) and its actually an okish palette. so sad though that young girls get sucked into this cause they dont know what the genuine stuff is. its like the black market for drugs but worse!

  • Eve

Ohhh man…I think my mom bought fake MAC HK palettes for me and my sister last year. I don’t really like MAC so I’m not familiar with it but this made me think and I looked up the real collection and didn’t see the palette. Gotta say though, the eyeshadows are actually really nice!

  • Logan

I’ve seen some sell the fake macs but only put it as a generic eyeshadow not labeled as MAC. So I find that a bit more honest then those that claim for it to be MAC. I’ve bought a Tarte blush from Ebay and I’m pretty sure it’s real, you are taking a slight chance with ebay (if you use paypal they cover you and refund you if it’s a fake). I don’t think it’s right that people do it but it’s also a person’s job as a consumer to be smart and double check. I’ve seen some sell the Hello Kitty just as a Hello Kitty brush set and have been curious about the quality. They usually sell for around 10 bucks.

  • Deb

If these people believe that there’s a MAC 180 shadow set and brush kit going for $150….they deserve to be scammed. *shakes head*

    • the Muse

no one deserves to be scammed Deb. Some folks aren’t really up to date on makeup/mac, etc…..so it def can happen sadly! 🙁

  • Blair

This is just sad. I know people have a tendency to sell fake Tiffany items, knockoff bags, fake jeans/shoes/etc., and try to pass them off as the originals, but makeup too?

What has this world come to? :/

  • BV

I seriously can’t find this funny because it is so sad. Every year thousands of people must be sucked into this.

I once purchased a MAC 187 brush (fake) online… but I thought it was a brush just similar to it – I was shocked when I saw the fake MAC printed on it! I thought it was just some generic cheap brand (which it was but was actually fake MAC!!)

It is okay when you know it is a fake, it is not cool if you purchase a product thinking it is real. These sellers should make it clear these are fake and people might actually be happy about it.

  • Jen

I’ve only bought a discontinued nail polish (3 of them actually), the Maybelline’s hearts shapes and glitter polishes only because you can’t fake nail polishes, lol. Also, I know enough about ebay to be wary of fakes, especially from Chinese sellers… prob cause I’m Chinese too, see so much fake handbags and goods… I’m even skeptical of Asian products sold in Asian pharmacies/beauty stands because even those stand a chance of being fake or having harmful materials in them because there’s a lack of regulation a lot of their consumer products.

  • Jen

Oh I forgot to mention that there’s these vendors that show up once in awhile in my area that set up a table and sell MAC stuff for $5 dollars, lots of women hoard over it, but not all of them actually buy the stuff, they sell everything, brushes, eyeshadow, blushes, and I saw a bunch of Woman Woman stuff (this was a few months after the line was discontinued). They looked pretty convincing from just passing by, I should’ve stopped to check them out. Sometimes companies do get rid of their discontinued stock or products with a slight defect by selling them wholesale.

  • Melissa

I love this too! I thought I was THE only one. I really enjoy the fake Chanel and fake Benefit. I confess I bought a fake Chanel mirror compact for the whopping total of $9 and about a month later the CC’s wore off LOL.

  • Nat

I actually go to mainland China and they sell these everywhere. They also claim it’s all real, but obviously I know theyre not lol. However since the palettes were SO cheap (I bought a nice 10 color shadow palette once for $4), I decided to give it a try. And surprisingly the quality is not bad at all for the price!

Of course the quality is nowhere near MAC quality…however for the price tag, the product is not bad at all. Lol. I don’t know about the brushes, but you should give the shadows a try !

    • Nat

oh I forgot to mention, I also did try the fake hello kitty lip gloss….that i was not impressed with. but the shadows are good!

  • Hoang

I’ve heard the fake is good quality though.. but I don’t think I could get myself to use it. Just in case of an allergic reaction. I like that alot of Ebay sellers now say that they do not guarantee authenticity though. If they do, then that is just wrong.

Anyways, MAC really needs to collaborate with that Retro Mickey Mouse though. I would really want a powder compact with a cutey old-school Mickey Mouse on it! 😀

  • june

I’ve seen these in person in los angeles, they sell them right on the sidewalk on los angeles st. and the police drive by and do nothing about it. Maybe cause they are men, but come on it’s so blatant!

  • christine

ok shoot me if i say i want the brush set…you never know if it’s works out fine..i have a fake MAC eyeshadow palette btw and it only cost $2..i knew it was fake because it was sold in a Chinese family shop…

  • Ellie

Hi muse, not sure if you’ll see this cause the post is so old but here’s to hoping… Have you seen postings about the tarte Tartelette palette that is coming out to celebrate 15 years of tarte supposedly sometime in January? Well I saw it on ebay and am wondering if it could be real or if it’s more likely a fake? I thought maybe you would have some inside info like products could be out before their release date or maybe you have a good eye for fakes! Your opinion is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

  • Ellie

Even though it exists I am still worried it could be a knock-off and I ordered it from tarte. I love tarte for their natural ingredients and so the thought of getting a cheap chemical laden fake scares me and is not worth the cheaper price tag. I’d rather have the piece of mind. Didn’t realize there were so many fakes out there so thanks for enlightening me! It really is EVIL-BAY! Thanks so much Muse!

    • Isabella Muse

hahaha 🙂 yes evil bay indeed. too too many fakes around you have to be super careful! I’m glad you got it from Tarte, better that way! Enjoy it dear! <3!
