Sephora + Pantone Universe Color of the Year Lipgloss Set Review & Swatches
I got brave and walked out of the house today and last night with tangerine lipgloss from the Sephora + Pantone Universe Color of the Year Lipgloss Set.
You ever have those days where you tried something completely wrong for you but proceed to pose in front of the mirror and tell yourself how bloody brilliant it looks on you.
I had that moment this morning with tangerine lipgloss but I walked into my office and my sister quickly me brought back to down to earth when she said it looked like the Joker met the Wet and Wild Lipstick display.
Damn her! She’s right.
I seriously can’t do oranges.
But I tried, I failed, but it was fun none the less and it doesn’t take away from the fact I’m so slapping a Muse Approval on the new Sephora + Pantone Universe Color of the Year Lipgloss Set.
Jump!
Darker skin girls you can rock this like a hurricane. These color pop like nobody’s business and if you like and worked orange in the past you’re in for a real treat.
First off, Sephora has done an incredible job with the Pantone Universe Collection. It’s fairly inexpensive but it packs heat and quality. The presentation, packaging, quality, and overall price are just some of the things to rave about here.
The lipgloss collection comes in a weighty slide out box. The packaging alone really speaks for the overall quality. They went all out here and the box the glosses come in won’t easily be tossed aside. It’s something you’ll want to keep the glosses in. Gorgeous really.
Inside you’ll find four shades of graduating shades of tangerine/orange gloss. Again, nice presentation here. Each gloss comes in slick tubes with a white cap. The simplicity of the white packaging off sets the loud, bold shade inside each tube. Each gloss sports a flat sponge applicator which saturates beautifully with color and builds it up perfectly.
My hand automatically navigated to the shade with the most shimmer at first which was Tangerine Tango Glaze. This happens to be the sheerest of the lot with virtually no color pay off. It was disappointing at first but I was feeling good about this as I knew it would look great with a little lip stain underneath.
However, be aware, do not judge the entire set by this single shade as things get increasingly brilliant when you venture into trying the three remaining shades.
Tangerine Tango Vivid (tangerine), Tangerine Tango Luminous (tangerine with shimmer), and Tangerine Tango Opal (tangerine pink with gold shimmer) are a huge surprise. These are extremely pigmented AND act out their awesomeness with a hybrid formula that’s part gloss and part lip lacquer/lip cream. What you see in the tubes is exactly what you’ll get on your lips. The colors are richly saturated with pigment and come across incredibly on lips (if you can sport such bold shades of orange/tangerine on your lips that is).

The formula is thick with a nice smooth glide but be sure to apply a little balm underneath for the best application as sometimes things get patchy on drier lips. The color has a lovely shine factor as well with a moisturizing feel that isn’t tacky or sticky. They wear nicely for about three hours in but you might find color migrates a little bit around hour four, I found the color started creeping into my upper lip line so I needed to pay special attention to a touch up less it end up everywhere else on my face.
The colors do all look very similiar in the box and during a swatch but they have subtle little differences that are noticeable when applied. I find each shade has a different degree of depth.
Overall, I might not be a winner when it comes to wearing orange, but I can’t deny, this set really proves incredible and earns a spot on the Muse Approval list. The formula and quality of each gloss, the presentation and packaging, and the fairly inexpensive price tag gets a huge yay from me. Sephora done well. This is unique, exciting, and possibly one of the best makeup purchases I’ve made in a while. Sephora + Pantone Universe proves a collection you won’t want to miss this season. Right on trend and oh such a fun little purchase.
