Charlotte Ronson Starry Eyes Liquid Eyeshadow Review & Swatches
Being the big cream shadow h0r that I am I was quite tempted to try Charlotte Ronson Starry Eyes Liquid Eyeshadow ($18). Available in four shades these recently launched liquid eyeshadows offer a shimmering wash of color to eyes.
They might just remind you of Chanel’s Ombre D’Eau Fluid Iridescent Eyeshadow, I know that’s why I was keen on giving them a try as I love the Chanel version.
Take a look!
Mmm well, the formula doesn’t quite translate as nicely as Ombre D’Eau Fluid Iridescent Eyeshadow. I’d call it more of an eye gloss than an eye wash since the formula is terribly sheer.
My review is based on a single shade, Sky, which is one of the lighter shades offered. I didn’t like it but I am keen to try more shades to see if they perform better. The sheer pink just didn’t work out so well and I suspect all the shades will have the same performance issues but I still want to try a darker shade just to prove that fact.
These come housed in a very elegant glass tube just like Chanel’s version. Visually they are a very luxe looking product with a decent price tag at under $20 dollars. The formula is a bi-phase one of sorts which features a pigment suspended in an oily watery base. You’ll have to shake it up very well prior to application to combine the base and color. A sponge applicator is provided for application.
Although they swatch nice enough with a metallic-like finish they don’t apply quite as nicely. At first application you’ll find they yield ok color but as you blend the color will disappear. You can try building the color up but still blending out results in the same issue where color just disappears completely. I’m unsure how many people would be quite happy with a sheer wash of color that they can’t properly blend out. You could try to rely on the sponge to blend properly and get the best color build up but I find this creates a bit of a mess particularly because the product takes a hot minute to set.
Overall, these are quite nice to look at, fun to play with and swatch, but the application is a real issue. They just don’t want to stick around on my lid if I try to blend them out. Mmmm unfortunately, I didn’t like them. Nice idea, decent price, but the formula needs a lot of work!
