Tarte BB Tinted Treatment Primer Review & Swatches

This was provided to me by a brand for review but all opinions expressed are my own

Ok, so Tarte BB Tinted Treatment Primer is a mouth full isn’t it?

I’m was bracing myself to dislike this since I’ve had my ups and downs with “BB” related products here in the US but I came out of it feeling good about the overall product so long as I don’t think of it as a BB Cream.

Do you need it?

Maybe!

Not really a BB Cream nor a foundation, this hybrid primer formula offers a few multitasking benefits that may surprise you.

Although it’s described as being an all in one formula by QVC and Tarte, one that works as a moisturizer, foundation, and primer all in one, it does have a sheerer finish. Unlike Asian BB Cream it does miss the mark for full coverage.

However…

It’s quite interesting to say the least.

The formula begins life with a soft, creamy texture but once applied it begins to morph and develops a velvety, mousse-like quality that feels primer-like as you apply. This velvet texture feels almost as if they mixed a bit of silicone primer into the product. The result is the blurring of minor imperfections such as a smaller pores, fine lines, etc…the product blends easily and has a silky finish.

It successfully evens out skin tone and creates an enhanced skin look with a more flawless finish. If you want you can use it to prime skin and follow up with a foundation of your choice. I tried doing this and it seems to work well at creating a barrier between skin and my base which absorbs excess oil and keeps foundation wearing longer sans oxidizing.

On its own, it works more as a beefed up tinted moisturizer with a built in primer. I tried two shades, Light and Medium, and I must say both were quite beige so do beware when purchasing as I’m unsure if any of the three colors offered will actually fit many skin types.

Medium and Light

Overall, Tarte BB Tinted Treatment isn’t a BB Cream that much is true. It is however, a hybrid product that acts as a base of sorts with a built in primer. Tarte seems to have bypassed BB Cream and just created a brand new innovation all its own with this. I’m terrible about primer application sometimes but this makes it easy to get lightweight coverage in that perfects as it primes.

Interesting product. Although I do resent “BB” being thrown in the mix when it is in fact not a BB Cream but still a like on this product!

I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Have to admit, I’m not a huge fan of BB creams either. The only one I’ve ever used and liked in the past is Skin79’s Super+ BB cream. Is this one worth a try in your honest opinion?

If you don’t think of it as a BB cream… yeah I pretty much don’t think of western BB’s as a BB cream.

Looks like it might be a good primer though, especially if you want to layer your coverage (like use this primer, then a real bb for more complete coverage?) Do you think that works?

    • the Muse

hi tiffany yup mentioned layering/using as a primer in the post 🙂

  • Kiss & Make-up

Yeah, that doesn’t look like a BB cream. But I’m not into BB creams to begin with, so I don’t mind. It is kinda silly that they still mentioned it, though. Confusing.

The ingredient list kind of intrigued me with “diamond powder” and the numerous silicone compounds!

  • Cj

Huh… I’m really interested in this. Do you think light would work for me?

    • the Muse

noooo! not for you my dear boy. It’s too beige for your fair skin lovie 🙁 even the light has a ton of beige too it, might look to orange on your lovely skin!

      • Cj

Awwwww sadface. Maybe I could make my own lol mix a primer with a foundation xD

        • the Muse

lol that’ll work ;-D I’m sowrrry! It just seems way to dark for fair skin to me.

          • Cj

Omgomgomg! I was looking on sephora for a new primer, and I saw these with a new shade! FAIR!!! I ended up ordering it 😀 Please tell me you still like this lol!

          • the Muse

i do i do i do but I wish you would have waited I have several press samples for Spring 2013 and could have sent you over the fair via mail *bops you in the head*

          • Cj

D’oh! Well you know me, I have no patience lol. Right when I saw it I checked your site to make sure fair was a new shade and ordered it in half a second lol!

I’m super pale and the Fair is great! The coverage is just right and it lasts all day. So far, I’m impressed. I love it!

  • Majick

It’s interesting enough but at this point I have a couple tubes of amazonian clay full coverage foundation, the latest maracuja foundaton, Stila’s foundation, Too Faced BB Cream, Stila BB Cream, and a few more I’m sure i forgot abuot (Bare Minerals, Smashbox, etc.) SOOOOOoooooooo, I’m definitely going to pass on this one.

  • monettex

It’s funny you say it feels like they mixed a bit of silicone into it, because the first ingredient is a type of silicone, so its mostly silicone. That probably is what makes it a good primer though. Too bad it’s not like the “real” BB creams. The only one I’ve heard of that come out in the US that actually has heavy coverage is the Jane Iredale BB, have you tried that one?

  • anne

Hmm Im really intrigued by this. I want something that i can still apply my moisturizer and primer, but wear powder over it as well. kind of like when i use a little bit of concealer around my nose to reduce the redness. BUT it does look beige which i may be able to deal with however, light looks too light and medium looks too dark ;/

  • TLE

I’ve been trying the sample from Sephora for the last 3 days in the Fair color, and I like it! I use this, and put the MAC Studio Careblend over top and it’s so light. And I was surprised it didn’t turn into a greasy mess after 8 hours!! I’m just waiting to see if the silicone will make my dry sensitive skin break out. Cross fingers it doesn’t!

  • Christine

I’ve been using Lumene’s BB Cream (which I LOVE, thank you for your approval on it!), but this looks interesting as well. I have my Sephora discount right now, think I should give it a try?

    • the Muse

hey christine so happy to hear it, lumene’s BB was a pleasant surprise. Noooo! wait. Tarte always has sales in the Summer, might as well grab it when they do 20-30% off versus the mere 15 at Sephora ;-D

  • Beth

It didn’t work well as a primer for me, it felt like my make-up was sliding off every time I wore it. I will say though, that shades worked well for me, and I have a difficult skin tone to match.

    Hello,

I went at Sephora store in Montreal and as I can see at your package theres no information about the SPF 30 advertised at the website. Do you know anything about it/ Thanks!
