Tarte Glamazon Pure Performance 12 Hour Lipstick Review & Swatches

This was provided to me by a brand for review but all opinions expressed are my own

The new Tarte Glamazon Pure Performance 12 Hour Lipstick ($26) have recently launched with the Tarte Fall 2012 Collection in a range of eight shades.

These are a cream finish lipstick with a vivid full color pay off that has a hydrating feel. I’m not a cream girl but I gave these a try and was quite impressed with the texture.

Take a look!

Tarte Glamazon Pure Performance 12 Hour Lipstick hmmm I have to think on the name there. 12 hour wear they do not have however, they do produce a staining effect so this may or may not tack on a few extra hours of wear depending how you look at it.

Each lipstick is housed in a bamboo tube with a twist up design. The tubes are rather long, longer than your average lipstick. I didn’t like the packaging because something appeared a little loose in the bottom of the tube. I also worry at some point the lipstick might snap off if I press too hard. The product just seems very delicate to me particularly because the formula is so soft and moisturizing. I suggest not swiveling it up too much during application to avoid any problems. Although they look big they actually only have 0.07 lipstick inside so the price is kinda high here at $26.

The formula is incredible. It has an amazing creamy glide across lips and a single swipe results in full color pay off. It’s a gorgeous formula that truly is worthy of the higher price tag. The pigmentation is excellent, obviously, producing rich, vivid color on a single swipe. It’s quite hydrating with a softer semi-matte finish however it does have the potential to look less than smooth on drier lips. The finish will emphasize flaky areas if you have chapped or drying lips. They seem to remain hydrating throughout the entire wear for me. I don’t have problems with it flaking, smudging, migrating, feathering, or sucking moisture from my lips. Even through a few cups of tea it wears quite well.

I don’t get the 12 hour wear out of it in all honesty. It fades at around 4 to 5 hours in and leaves behind a stain which will last a good two hours after.

Overall, Tarte Glamazon Pure Performance 12 Hour Lipstick is a little pricy and a little limited in the shade department (more shades please Tarte). But it does have a hell of a color pay off and a cream formula that’s comfortable to wear. I’m not keen on cream finishes so I didn’t like these too much if I wasn’t wearing them with gloss on top. If you feel the same way you might want to indulge anyway and just put some clear gloss on them like I did.

A little pricy for such a small amount but a fairly well formulated lipstick that should please fans of full color coverage.

mm yes. I thought so too. the pigmentation is incredible though and the formula is amazing, I’m trying to justify the smaller size and higher price to myself ;D!

Hi Muse! Love your blog. I have the Too Faced La Creme, which I love. Would you say that the La Creme is similar if not better than Tarte’s? I think TF’s is cheaper, too?

    • the Muse

june no way, not comparable at all dear. too faced la creme has a nice sheen and a lighter texture on lips. The shades are a little more subdued too. Tarte is a heavier lipstick, not much sheen or shine to them, kinda semi-matte formula, very creamy and intensely pigmented. If I had to choose, I must say I like La Creme much better. I don’t dig creams, they are just too mod-ish on my lips and Tarte comes across like that for me.

Oooh, but yeah, too pricey. I’m spoiled by my love of wet n wild mega last lipsticks. I even heard a rumor that they went from about $3 down to $2 recently?

  • Tigress

I love them both! I wouldn’t ever want to pay that, but the packaging is also amazing. I would possibly treat myself to one. Depending on how much I really needed food. haha

Gosh I just love the bamboo packaging for Tarte’s stuff. It’s so cool looking! That being said, it’s kinda weird that these lipsticks are so long…I guess if it works though. And those colors are fabulous! They look SO unbelievably soft, creamy, and pigmented. Bold is AMAZING on you–definitely my favorite

My gripe here is the lack of product – for $30 I can get a high-end lipstick with anywhere from .10 to .12oz of product. For example, Dior Addict and Addict Extreme are $30, for .12oz. NARS lipstick is $24 for .12oz. I can’t justify spending $26 for so little product, no matter how good the formula. 🙁

I have bold and I really don’t like it! The colour is gorgeous though, do you know any similar shades of a different formula? I find it bunches up on my lips and transfers everywhere. I also find it drying. Glad it worked put for you though!

    • the Muse

I don’t know a similiar shade kelly, sorry, but perhaps try out Too Faced La Creme, they are amazing!

  • Comrade Garlic

Make sure you cap these tightly! You need to hear two clicks when you put the cap back on. They will dry out.

  • Prairie Peg

I broke down and had to buy the Playful, it’s perfect for fall and it looks wonderful on you Muse!

  • kharanya

Looks lovely! Just remember ladies, you’re paying more for better or at least less nasty ingredients. Wish I could justify trying one of these, but it’s out of the budget atm.

  • Joan

I like these, don’t love them. I have a few of Too Faced’s la Creme and I love them better than Tarte’s and they cost less. Also purchased a few of the new Sephora long lasting lipstick in the thin tube, but am not that crazy about them, although they did get five star reviews. Just might be returning those.

    • the Muse

I really like Too Faced’s La Creme as well. they are gorgeous ;-D

  • LaLa

Wow that’s almost in the YSL lippie range! Yeah I think I’ll just swatch them in the store 😉
Thank you for showing them with a gloss too! Beautiful!

    • the Muse

my pleasure lala looking forward to your thoughts after you swatched!

  • lisa

I bought Bold and Foxy and love them both. No lipstick wears long on me, so I’m used to that aspect. These are moisturizing and bold color and that’s all i can ask for in a lipstick. Tarte is an awesome line and I always look forward to their new products.

  • Majick

Love them! I like “bold” better but they both look nice on you. I’m not keen on bigger pkg with smaller product because with l the stuff I carry around on a daily basis it’s nice to have a lighter makeup bag.
I am actually a big fan of this type of formula. I love the TF la creme but I think I may like these even better. I can’t wait to try them out.

    • the Muse

thanks majick 🙂 I LOVE the TF la creme too they are just amazings!

  • krystle (Baking Beauty)

Playful looks like a great color. However, I hate when products don’t last as long as they say. I wouldn’t mind if it was just a regular lipstick that lasted 4 hours, but when they 12 it should last 12! -endrant-

  • Aida

Hmmm, they do look amazing as far as formula goes, but they are a bit too pricey for me :).

    • kate curry

Sorry I couldn’t resist the plug. But those lipsticks sound good to me – I like a creamy texture and there’s no way I believe any lipstick in 12 hours so…..

  • catazure

I love that you swatch stuff! It really helps me decide what to buy – I shop on line for most of my cosmetics since I don’t have a Sephora.

  • Phyrra

I picked up Pure (the peach) for a nudish type lip with smoky looks. I really like the color but didn’t get 12 hours of wear, either. It does have a nice formula, I agree. I like your colors 😉

  • Kitteh

I really wanted to love this lipstick. It was the first ‘higher end’ lipstick i ever treated myself to…and yeah, while the color was great, I found it anything but creamy. Maybe I just got “lucky” and found the one tube in Sephora that had something wrong with it but when I first applied…grainy!! Yuck! Ok, i thought, maybe it’s just the sunscreen gloss…give it another go on a clean slate. So I washed my face, exfoliated my lips a bit with a sugar scrub and tried the lipstick again…still grainy! It’s no where near as bad as sand but there is a definite non-creamy texture. I couldn’t wait to get it off my lips. 🙁
