I’ve never been a fond fan of cream eyeshadows but a few years ago I just completely fell in love with the formula. Dare I say, sometimes, I feel like I like it more than powder.
The introduction of Maybelline Color Tattoo 24 Hour Eyeshadow was really quite an epiphany for drugstore makeup. This is proof positive that drugstore makeup has really evolved. These are on par with MAC Paint Pots in terms of quality and what’s not to like about the $5-$7 price tag!
Today I’m taking a look at one of the new shades, Gold Shimmer, you’re going to want this one.
I decided to review each new shade individually because I had different experiences with each of them. And it also gives me time to create a look for each color.
I think we can all agree that the shades from the original line up had a mixed bag of formulas. Some were excellent, others were a little meh.
In the case of Gold Shimmer we see excellence. This is a topaz shade with a slightly misleading name. Gold Shimmer, you’d think more true gold eh? But no, this is a beautiful shade of golden topaz brown. The shade isn’t terribly unique as I’ve come across many a golden brown in my day that’s quite similiar. However, the price point is definitely appealing here as it offers excellent color pay off in a very nice cream shadow formula.
I had some difficulty with finger application so do apply with a brush to get the best layer on lids. I find the color applies easily and leaves a smooth finish on lids. The shade works really well with my brown eyes as well. Color pay off can go from sheer to full in as little as two layers.
Overall, Gold Shimmer is a keeper for Fall. This is a gorgeous color. As I said it’s not terribly unique but the $5.99 price point makes it very appealing indeed. I had excellent wear time with this without creasing or fading, colored remained vibrant and fresh throughout the wear.
