Maybelline Gold Shimmer Color Tattoo 24 Hour Eyeshadow Review & Swatches

Maybelline Gold Shimmer Color Tattoo 24 Hour Eyeshadow 1

As you know Maybelline has introduced eight shades of limited edition Maybelline Color Tattoo 24 Hour Eyeshadow. Wahoo excited much?

I’ve never been a fond fan of cream eyeshadows but a few years ago I just completely fell in love with the formula. Dare I say, sometimes, I feel like I like it more than powder.

The introduction of Maybelline Color Tattoo 24 Hour Eyeshadow was really quite an epiphany for drugstore makeup. This is proof positive that drugstore makeup has really evolved. These are on par with MAC Paint Pots in terms of quality and what’s not to like about the $5-$7 price tag!

Today I’m taking a look at one of the new shades, Gold Shimmer, you’re going to want this one.

I decided to review each new shade individually because I had different experiences with each of them. And it also gives me time to create a look for each color.

I think we can all agree that the shades from the original line up had a mixed bag of formulas. Some were excellent, others were a little meh.

In the case of Gold Shimmer we see excellence. This is a topaz shade with a slightly misleading name. Gold Shimmer, you’d think more true gold eh? But no, this is a beautiful shade of golden topaz brown. The shade isn’t terribly unique as I’ve come across many a golden brown in my day that’s quite similiar. However, the price point is definitely appealing here as it offers excellent color pay off in a very nice cream shadow formula.

I had some difficulty with finger application so do apply with a brush to get the best layer on lids. I find the color applies easily and leaves a smooth finish on lids. The shade works really well with my brown eyes as well. Color pay off can go from sheer to full in as little as two layers.

Overall, Gold Shimmer is a keeper for Fall. This is a gorgeous color. As I said it’s not terribly unique but the $5.99 price point makes it very appealing indeed. I had excellent wear time with this without creasing or fading, colored remained vibrant and fresh throughout the wear.

Gold Shimmer rocks my world! \O/ I wore it most of last week and had to force myself to use something else lol! So bumped that it’s limited edition. Trying to tell myself that I don’t need 2!

I just might as well since I’ve seen the neutral ones in a few places lol! Still on the hunt for 2 of the limited edition bright ones. It is seriously awesome and has interrupted my love affair with bad to the bronze.

I have Bad to the Bronze (wearing it today) and Barely Beige so I don’t think I need this one. I have several of the brighter colors too. I like all the ones I have.

i wasn’t interested in this color from swatches but it looks so nice on you i may have to consider picking it up. I’m very cool toned though so i’m not sure if it would work on me, I like barely beige

I wish the neutrals would become part of the permanent collection. I haven’t tried Gold Shimmer, but my mom has and she loves it. I did buy a backup of Barely Beige because it works pretty well with my fair skin.

I like that the Gold Shimmer is not full on gold. It is not too warm and this works great for me!

I actually liked Bad to the Bronze as well as a couple of others as well. This product is a gem :)

Can’t wait to hear what your thoughts are on the other 3 colors in the Fall collection. I liked them all decently well myself :)

Oh no, Muse! The seller refunded my payment this morning without contacting me – ? Was the shade out of stock? I’m soooo crushed!

(I am home for 7 more weeks after *gulp* a very unexpected triple-bypass surgery! I’m older than you of course, but still only 54! But I’m grateful that it was discovered before I had massive heart attack, perhaps even a fatal one but girl, this stuff HURTS!!!)

I KNOW, right??? Nope…I had some chest pains and went to the ER; it is a “stress test” and cardio catheter (you don’t even want to know) that unccovered the blockages. Like I said, I just thank God that I had symptoms and heeded them rather than a massive and/or fatal heart attack. Soon as I get well, I have a new mission in life: To educate and encourage women about heart disease. It truly is the silent killer and now I’m gonna be a heart warrior for my sisters!

Now guess what? Today was my first recheck with the cardiologist and I had my son (who took me; I can’t drive) stop at Walgreens on the way home….they had ONE POT LEFT of Maybelline Color Tattoos LE and….it was Gold Shimmer! MINE MINE MINE!!! So happy, it made a bad day sooooo much better!!! xoxoxoxoxo

This shade in particular was fabulous so I picked up 2 of them, but I still haven’t been able to locate Barely Beige yet!! I’ve been having a mad dash to whatever stores carry Maybelline in my area LOL I guess it’s really popular where I am!

Aww..you look so pretty. Gold Shimmer is beautiful, a warmer sister to Bad to the Bronze. I absolutely love Color Tatoo, I have given away all my eyeshadow palettes. When you posted the limited edition shades, I drove to several CVS and Target around town (my hubby doesnt get my obsession, he thinks I’m OCD), and ALAS finally found at a podunk CVS: Barely Beige, Gold Shimmer, Mossy Green, Rich Magahony. I wore Barely Beige yesterday, it really is a great dupe for Stila Kitten cream shadow which I bought for $22 at Ulta. Mossy Green is very similar to Tarte Shimmering Moss. Is Gold Shimmer similar to MAC Indianwood or Constructivist? I cant wait to try it tomorrow!

aw thanks ricki you’re too kind! ha GOOD for you!!!!!!!!!!!! ;-D I’m glad you got them all! :) I’m not sure, I actually don’t have either of those two mac PPs, I never really got on board with PPs for some reason, sometimes they are good but sometimes I feel they are too dense…!

In honor of your posting I am sporting Gold Shimmer today and received compliments as well!! These really are (well, some of the shades) great shadows – much better than MAC PP. I popped some Loreal Infalliable in Iced Latte on inner corner/lid to mix it up and turned out nice! Brightens the eye up a bit.

Muse – the neutrals look SO nice on you. I love the Dior Wild lipstick but can’t locate other than Dior website :-(
