Urban Decay Naked Skin Ultra Definition Pressed Finishing Powder Reviews & Swatches
Urban Decay Naked Skin Ultra Definition Pressed Finishing Powder ($34) is a new finishing powder that hit the beauty air waves this week as part of the Urban Decay Fall 2013 Collection.
It’s available now on Urban Decay’s website if you simply can’t stand to wait and will launch later in the month at retailers like Sephora.
If you’re a fan of the Naked line of products such as Urban Decay’s Naked Foundation and beauty balm this is likely something you might want to explore to use in conjunction with those products. Or hey, if you just love Urban Decay this could possibly make your year if you’ve been waiting for a powder from them.
Take a look!
To my knowledge Urban Decay hasn’t ever created a finishing powder outside of De-Slick Powder so count Naked Skin Ultra Definition Pressed Finishing Powder as pretty their first venture into the land of finishing powders.
Urban Decay dubs Naked Skin Ultra Definition Pressed Finishing Powder ($34) as a silky yet weightless finishing powder with a luminous, demi-matte naked finish. Sounds great right? Sounds like a little glow, a little mattifying action, and the benefits of a naked skin look. Me likey!
It comes housed in a super slick dual compartment case with a generously sized mirror on the top portion and a separate compartment housing a rubber sponge for application on the lower level. Urban Decay typically does edgy packaging but the Naked Skin Ultra Definition Pressed Finishing Powder gets a more modern chic look. This is a simple yet elegant mirrored compact which does unfortunately attract fingerprints like a magnet. UD includes a drawstring purple bag to house the compact in when not in use however, this doesn’t prevent fingerprints from popping up all over it when you do touch up or apply.
I think it disappoints a little bit. It’s a basic powder that has the powdery texture of in Asian face pact. It’s has a velvety, smooth texture but I wouldn’t call the powder silky or finely milled. It’s soft yes, but I’ve seen powders that are softer and less dry. I think it’ll be a shoe in for oily skin however, drier skin will find it accentuates patchier, drier areas on their face. It’s for the most part a fully matte finish sans the luminosity that Urban Decay claims in their details. I wouldn’t call the finish naked on my drier skin. You can definitely see I am wearing powder when I apply this.
Just like any good finishing powder it blurs the appearance of fine lines and pores giving a more flawless appearance. It did well around my more oily areas and kept them shine free for a solid five hours before I needed a touch up. It is sheerer so I wouldn’t suggest it for foundation use unless you’re really going minimal. In regards to touch-ups, wear time, etc..I think it’ll vary from skin type to skin type…it lasts about five hours on my dry skin before I felt I needed to “powder my nose” so to speak.
Urban Decay shade recommendations (show below from top to bottom and swatched from left to right, top to bottom):
- Light for shades 0.5 through 3.0
- Medium Light for shades 2.0 through 4.0
- Medium for shades 4.5 through 6.5
- Medium Dark for shades 6.0 through 8.0
- Dark for shades 8.0 through 12.0
For your reference Medium Light was the best shade for me.
I have to admit when you’re reading the press on this powder it sounds like some sort of life changing face powder and after using it I kinda sat back and though, hmmm, this is just a face powder and that’s about it.
So in the end, I felt like Urban Decay Naked Skin Ultra Definition Pressed Finishing Powder was an innovative product for a brand that doesn’t have a long history of releasing facial powders. However, that powder wasn’t particularly innovative in the world of facial powders. There isn’t anything special or different or unique about Urban Decay Naked Skin Ultra Definition Pressed Finishing Powder. It’s just a face powder and that’s about it.
If you’re shopping for face powders at the moment you might want to try this but I don’t feel it’s a product you need to indulge if you already have a face powder that works for you!
Urban Decay’s new Naked Skin Ultra Definition Press Finishing Powder is available now at UrbanDecay.com and launches soon at retailers.
