E.L.F. The Evil Queen Look Book Palette Review & Swatches

E.L.F. The Evil Queen Look Book Palette

The E.L.F. The Evil Queen Look Book Palette ($9.99) one of the four new E.L.F. Cosmetics Disney Villains Palettes that are available exclusively at Walgreens for Halloween and Fall 2013.

These palettes includes essentials for lips and eyes in a cute Disney Villain inspired packaging.

Let’s take a look at the Evil Queen’s Look Book Palette!

E.L.F. The Evil Queen Look Book Palette is a $9.99 palette that features a full size eyeshadow palette containing eight eyeshadows as well as a pencil liner, liquid liner, brush, eyeshadow primer, and lip color gloss.

Last year’s palette had the shadow palette built right into the compact but this year it is a removable palette. The packaging on this year’s palette features a watercolor print of the Evil Queen on the outside of the package and has flip to open design that has instructions for creating an eye and night look on the inner flats.

I do believe the palette design is what you’re paying into as most of the items included are mini with the brush and shadow palette being the full size products included.

Here’s the exact products you get:
Shadow Palette with shades Huntsman, Jealously, Majesty, Witch, Vanity, and Dark Magic

  • E.L.F. Liquid Liner
  • E.L.F. Eyeshadow Brush
  • E.L.F. Eyeliner Pencil (mini)
  • E.L.F. Eyeshadow Primer (mini)
  • E.L.F. Lip Color Gloss (mini)
  • E.L.F. Lengthening and Defining Mascara (deluxe size)

E.L.F. The Evil Queen Look Book Contents

Last year’s palettes contained six shadows but this year you get a total of eight and thankfully they did away with the horrible cheek and lip pencil and replaced it with a lipgloss. The lipglosses in the Evil Queen’s book and all the other books I tried so far is actually a great formula. It’s quite pigmented, has a plush feel, and offers some shine. I’m wearing it in my photo below!

The shadow palette in this book was very nice with a texture that was a bit powdery but was still quite velvety with fairly good pigment. My issues with the shadows were they seemed to run together and go muddy when blending so you have a little patience when applying. I’ve never really like E.L.F. Shadow Primer as it doesn’t really prolong the wear of my shadows. The eye pencil is the worst part of these books as it is SO dense and so DRY and tugs awfully! The liquid liner has excellent pigment, applies very well, but I notice it peels a bit as the day progresses. The brush is also a great piece of the collection as it is soft with dense bristles that do not shed. Although I typically love the Studio Brushes I dislike the Essential ones. This is an Essential one and quite good!

E.L.F. The Evil Queen Look Book Palette is quite fun. I think in general these palettes have some hits and misses but for the most part they are more collector’s pieces than anything else as some of the colors included with many of the books aren’t really inspiring Villain looks for me…! But none the less I think they are adorable sets!

I couldn’t find these at 3 different walgreens. I found the bags, the nail polish and the nail art kits.

    • the Muse

I think they’ll pop up soon to Halloween in some places Court! keep checking ;D you’ll get lucky!

  • Stephanie

Wow, it’s crazy how close these colors are to a certain neutral eye quad from Revlon. I can’t remember the name right now, though! I have a huge stockpile of liquid liner from ELF, lol, but you’re right, it can be flaky (especially in colder temperatures) but if you use a sealer or nicer base it’s not so bad.

  • Julio

I can NEVER find these exclusive kits! They never have them at my local walgreens, even when I try to hunt them down.

I think it’s kind of a letdown that this years kits don’t include false lashes.

Intern! you commented! 😀 lol if you want them let me know I’d be happy to pick them up and send them to ya. I actually am relieved as I suck at falsie lash application! Now bring me my wine intern! 😀

I picked up the Ursula one a few days ago at my local Walgreens. It’s very cute, but most of the eyeshadows leave a bit to be desired in terms of pigmentation. I like it, though! Very cute and well worth the $10 for a makeup collector. 😉

    • the Muse

hey caroline I got the Ursula too, didn’t really love the shadows in it either but some of the others def have nicer pigmentation and a texture this being one.

  • Cindi

I picked up 3 of these palettes, Ursula, Cruella De Vil and The Evil Queen. Now that I am home and looking at them, I already have dupes for nearly every color in them and I will probably not use the liner pencils or the mascara. Now I am considering whether I should return them all, as they are cute, but it is mostly the adorable packaging that I loved. But, boo – I can’t find my sales receipt. Sooo my options right now are taking them back for store credit, keeping and using them anyway, or saving them up for Christmas as these would make great gifts for the Angel Tree. I am leaning most heavily toward the 3rd option. As gifts. They are cute beyond cute. Just not practical for me considering I have more makeup already than I know what to do with.

    • the Muse

aw sorry cindi! 🙁 I didn’t really check for dupes but overall I felt the palettes were best for collector’s and not so much the actual contents :-/

    • Bryn

omg. what were the dupes you found? I haven’t found any (not that I even looked) but I really want dupes for jealousy and majesty! I use those every day pleasseee

  • Amy Amethyst

Yay! I’m so glad you reviewed this one since it’s the one I want. Shadow colors are ok to me but I just want it because it has the Evil Queen.

  • kimmyyy

I wish I could just get this eyeshadow palette! I love cooler-toned shades and these are all right up my alley! I just don’t know if I want them enough to waste money on the mascara, two eyeliners, eye primer and lip gloss that I’ll never use!

On that note, any suggestions for a good cool-toned neutral/nude eye shadow palette??

  • deyapretty

I’ve been reading everywhere there are 8 shadows but can only see 6. :s

  • Mary Lee

We’re these villain make up sets only made n 2013? I’m looking for the Evil Queen kit and it’s nowhere to be found.

    • Isabella Muse

They were made a few years in a row and available for a limited time. You can’t find them because they didn’t release any this year. This was from 2013. Hope this helps!
