Killer Queen by Katy Perry Eau de Parfum Review
This September the striking new Killer Queen by Katy Perry Eau de Parfum ($59) launched for the Fall 2013 season. Killer Queen by Katy Perry is the third fragrance the singer has released and is apparently completely different from prior releases she’s done.
“Killer Queen has been in my vocabulary since I was 15, because of the song ‘Killer Queen by Queen,” recalls Katy Perry to WWD recently. “Freddie Mercury painted the lyrics of this woman who I wanted to be. She seemed very powerful, and she captivated a room when she walked in. I named my company Killer Queen after those lyrics. I feel like, after all this time, it was appropriate to use that name in association with something I did. I feel like Im falling, finally, into that woman Freddie painted.”
Kay explains, “When I was creating Killer Queen, I was really inspired by the idea of a strong, confident woman in power and that is exactly what I hoped to put into this fragrance, something that brings out the power inside of you.”
I’m a massive Queen fan and one of my favorite songs from the brand happens to be Killer Queen so I admit this was a key selling point of the fragrance for me.
Let’s take a look at the Killer Queen by Katy Perry Eau de Parfum.
Killer Queen by Katy Perry is a powerful yet playful fragrance that comes housed in a bottle shaped like a ruby red sceptre. The gold topper is shaped like a crown with Katy’s initials on it. The bottle is beautiful but bulky as it doesn’t come with a pedestal to keep it standing up straight. It lays on its side so if you’re displaying it on a vanity it looks incredible but is rather larger and takes up a good deal of room due to its side display. Either way I think the bottle is very unique and edgy! I quite love it!
The fragrance starts off life as a fruity gourmand with notes of wild berries, dark plum, and bergamot. As it dries down a heart of celosia makes itself know and the more darker base notes of cashmere and patchouli morph the fruity notes into a dark, sensual swirl. The scent is bewitching with more of an evening aura to it as it seems a bit too rich for daily use. The richness and slight spicy dry down takes it from a level of playful to a full on sexiness that displays its strength and harder edge. I like the contrast of the sweeter notes versus the darkness that the patchouli brings to the fragrance. If you enjoy fragrances like Thierry Mugler Angel you’ll likely love Killer Queen.
As we head deeper into the Fall you’ll find Killer Queen is a perfume that’s ideal for those cooler nights as it envelopes you in a warm, comforting sexiness.
