Ulta Lip Butter Review & Swatches
Anyone try the new Ulta Lip Butter ($8)? Available in 10 shades (and two more limited edition Holiday ones), Ulta Lip Butter is a soft, buttery textured balm that delivers color to lips as well as a hydrating formula.
Take a look!
I’ve been meaning to pick up Ulta Lip Butters for the longest and just recently indulged. I think perhaps I’d be more inclined to rave them if the market wasn’t currently so saturated with great lip butter products. When I was taking Ulta’s $8 version into consideration I couldn’t help but compare it to products like Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter and It Cosmetics Vitality Lip Flush Lipstick and it came up sadly lacking.
A little cut in the price to say $4.99 or so and I might just say, “Go haul these!” but unfortunately I felt the price was a bit much.
These have a smoother buttery texture but they are all balm so you get that heavier, balmy consistency on lips which feels nice at first but gets a little irritating as the wear time goes on. It’s the type of texture that makes me want to lick my lips to add moisture because for some reason these aren’t providing it. It isn’t waxy really but just more of a heavy balmy finish.

I only tried two shades both of which had chunkier shimmer which translated as a tiny bit of grittiness when applied. This shimmer also gave my lips a frosty finish which kinda made me feel like I took a trip in the Tardis to 1965! Pigmentation was fairly good with a sheer yet buildable tint that was fully opaque with two applications.
Overall, I think the market is too saturated with these lip balm slash lipstick hybrids so when you’re presented with a budget friendly version like this it’s hard to take it seriously when it has so many quirks. Revlon’s version is around $4.99-$6.49 and has a far superior formula so Ulta really has to second guess their formula at $8 in my opinion.
But I’d love to hear your thoughts on these.
