Maybelline Baby Lips Crystal Review & Swatches

Maybelline Baby Lips Crystal Lip Balms

Maybelline Baby Lips Crystal Lip Balm is yet another variation on the Maybelline Baby Lips Moisturizing Lip Balm formula! The Maybelline Baby Lips Crystal formula is a new spin on the Maybelline Baby Lips cult favorite formula that has a hint of shimmer in the mix.

Let’s take a look!

Maybelline Baby Lips Crystal

Maybelline Baby Lips Crystal formula contains microparticles of shimmer which give lips a sheer hint of sparkle and color. Up until now all the Baby Lips formulas have been a sheer tinted balm formula but I think Baby Lips Crystal does change things up in a major way.

I’m not particularly partial to the Baby Lips formula to be honest but I think there’s some improvement with the Crystal one. The balms feel slicker, look glossier on lips, and have a thinner less balmy texture on lips. They are still very sheer, heck, maybe even more sheer than the original formulations and releases! I feel like there’s even less pigment in these shades. They do however, give lips a very nice, sheer hint of shine and shimmer that is noticeable. I find the texture very soothing but it does provide very little moisture so I feel the need to reapply often. I believe the original formula says they offer up to 8 hours of moisture but the Baby Lips Crystal formula mentioned nothing about that. They are lightly scented and flavored with sweet orange for some of the lighter shades and the darker shades, hmmm, they tasted different, kinda cakey?

Maybelline Baby Lips Crystal Swatches (Crystal Kiss, Gleaming Coral, Mirrored Mauve, Twinkling Taupe)

One shade that really sticks out as an overachiever is Twinkling Taupe. This is the most pigmented of the shades I tried. It gives a nice shiny, shimmery look on lips with a pretty, natural hint of dusky brownish pink on my lips. It’s a lovely color and if you’re curious about the Baby Lips Crystal formula this is the shade I’d recommend purchasing.

The other shades I tried were disappointingly sheer! And heck, some even gave me a bad case of zombie looking lips!

There’s a improvement with the Maybelline Baby Lips Crystal! I felt they were shiny, thinner in texture, and prettier on my lips but the shades are a bit disappointing. I did however, like the slicker feel of the balms versus other formulas I’ve tried in the Baby Lips Collection.

I’m unsure at this point of the Maybelline Baby Lips Crystal Collection is here to stay but I best grab a back up of Twinkling Taupe just in case (that one gets a Muse Approval).

The Maybelline Baby Lips Crystal is available now at drugstores in six shades.

I bought the Twinkling Taupe as it looked the most different, color-wise, from what has come out with the Baby Lips line. I thought I would hate the shimmer, but it’s actually very pretty. It smells nice, too, though it’s a touch stronger than I’d like from a lip product.

yay! it was my favorite of the colors heidi! I thought it a nice touch with the shimmer, not over the top!

Hii! Isabella, you are right, the taupe is the one that suits you the most. the others are meh… oh well,I was thinking of purchasing a Korean BB between Missha and etude which one you would recommend? anyway, thanks for always keeping ahead of the game!

thanks 🙂 dunno do you know which formulas you’re looking at? Missha has some great bbs as does Etude House and both brands also have some that I don’t really like so it depends 🙂 aw my pleasure thank you for reading :D!

Muse, Target had these on sale last week for $2.00. I bought “Crystal Kiss”, “Pink Quartz”, and “Gleaming Coral” and you’re right..they are very sheer with a wee touch of shimmer..I like it very much. I’m going back this Saturday to see if they have Twinkling Taupe and Mirrored Mauve. Thanks for the great review. 🙂

You always do a great job with the photos and reviews. However, one thing I’d like to see “ since you’ve been doing this a long time and top out the searches “ is a mention of whether or not frost, glitter or shimmer, when present in a lip product, is pearl/silver, gold, copper, rose gold or holographic/iridescent (i.e. a mix of colors).

Personally, I’m partial to rose gold and gold because it complements warm-tone lip colors and glosses; however, I dislike the far more common white/silver shimmer you see with a lot of the metallic and frosted lip cosmetics.

When I go searching to find a color swatch online for a product that I’m buying online and can’t see in person at a store, it’s not always possible to tell with the lighting or camera flash what the actual color of the shimmer or frost is. As a result, sometimes I’ve purchased a lip color or gloss thinking I’m going to get a warm shimmer only to end up with a cool one (white/silver).

Q: In future reviews can you mention what the shimmer or frost color is? Thank you!
