Bioderma Sensibio H2O

Bioderma Sensibio H2O Micellar Water ($19.95) is one of thee most popular micellar waters around and I’m sure you’ve likely already tried it or you might just be on the verge of indulging in a bottle.

My first experience with micellar water was with Mandom Cleansing Express Water from Japan back in 2008. Honestly, at the time micellar waters weren’t seeing the popularity and trending they currently are from both mid-range and budget friendly brands so it was a bit of an innovative product for me. I loved Mandom’s formula but the cleansing water thing never really caught on for me as I always feel like I have a bit of left over makeup on my skin after I use one.

But honestly, Bioderma Sensibio H2O Micellar Water is a formula that actually deserves all its ravings. It really does do an excellent job of removing makeup plus it’s very gentle on skin.

Bioderma Sensibio H2O Micellar Water is available in a three sizes the best value though is the $19.95 16.9 oz size in my opinion. If you take a moment to add up the amount of eye makeup remover you’re buying and replacing quite often plus cleansing oil or cleansing foam you’ll realize that spending a twenty dollar bill on a 16.9 oz size of Bioderma Sensibio H2O Micellar Water is a deal and a half.

As I mentioned above I never feel fully clean using cleansing waters BUT…! I will say I keep a bottle of this around the do a primary clean or a quick clean. So if I get home late and I’m too lazy to go through the entire cleansing process I just saturate a cotton pad with this and it removes all my makeup easily! On the nights I have a little more time I typically use it to remove my eye makeup and I swipe my face with it too before following up by cleansing my face with water and my regular cleanser or cleansing oil.

The thing you have to love about this formula is how gentle it is. Unlike cleansers it never dries your face out nor does it leave your face feeling tight. It doesn’t strip skin in the least and it contains absolutely no fragrance or ingredients like alcohol that will break down collagen.

It does a surprisingly job with mascara and heavier eye makeup as well and removes about 95% of it which is impressive for a cleansing water! This doesn’t leave a residue behind either so no sticky, tacky film is left on your face after removing your makeup.

I’m still not convinced its the end all to cleaning my face but I will say that Bioderma Sensibio H2O Micellar Water is one of the most impressive micellar waters I’ve had the pleasure of using and one of the gentlest. If you have sensitive skin or even skin that tends to dry out easily after cleansing this is one product you should add to your cleansing routine.

i do! i have been using the bifesta cleansing lotion (i think it’s the mandom cleansing express you used, just that they changed the brand name) for several years and love using it to remove non-waterproof makeup! but it contains a lot more chemicals than the bioderma micellar water though! i find the bioderma to be a little too gentle to remove my makeup for some reason :/ but i’m glad it’s working well for you!

Hi Karman! Yup, that’s the one. It also used to sting quite a bit around the eyes which made me stop using it. You should try the Boots Micellar Water, it’s quite good (and cheap!).

I always have a bottle around, it’s great for correcting makeup mistakes, too.

Also, I found out today it is perfect for cleaning my mirror! Glasses, too! I also have a bottle of L’Occitane Almond Shower Oil that is the only thing that cleans brushes properly (I use a lot of silicone-y makeup)

    Who knew??!!!

Is the main difference, for you, between this and Simple’s version that it seems to get more makeup off?

    • Isabella Muse

This gets much more makeup off but I think the Boots one that I reviewed is by far the best. The simple one doesn’t do as good a job in my humblest and the boots one is cheaper and does a better job with mascara than Bioderma’s formula which does leave a little residue behind. Hope this helps!

Have been using the La Roche-Posay one and pretty happy with it, but just ordered the Boots one on your recommendation! (And it’s currently on sale on drugstore.com.) Interested in trying the Bioderma but might wait until (if?) it becomes more easily available. Oh, and I use a cleansing oil first — but only for my eye makeup. I am sure the micellar would take it off but it seems easier/faster to do it this way (for me).

I haven’t tried that one yet but def next on the list! Let me know what you think of the Boots one, I really like it!! Does a fab job on mascara/eye makeup!

I’ve been wanting to try this one, but maybe will go with the boots instead if i can get it around here. Ive used the Simple one, and found that it worked well, but i use it AFTER removing all my makeup with traditional cleansers, kind of like a toner. It seems to remove anything that’s left behind. I can’t imagine using micellar water exclusively for makeup removal, especially since i wear about 5 pounds of eyeliner and mascara.

I have tried this one and really liked it. It may be one of the few products more widely available in Canada than the States.

  • Carolyn

I bought Simple and it didn’t really clean well… Then I bought Dr Jaart…wow, that one does a very good job. It’s probably comparable to the Bioderma one. It’s so $$ though so I don’t know if I’ll re purchase.

I’ve used this product for years and I love it! I always double cleanse actually, so I remove most of my makeup with this and then I use a foaming cleanser to remove everything else plus the micellar water that’s still on my face.
