Beauty Pet Peeve: The Body Shop Sales

beautypetpeeve

Remember when the Body Shop had the best sales every? Don’t get me wrong their sales are still really, really generous. And I don’t mean to sound ungrateful but their, “40% Off Everything! “Buy 3, Get 3 Off Everything” and the little asterisk that reminds you there are exclusions is my biggest beauty pet peeve ever.

Most times their sales now exclude everything and anything that’s newly released. I remember a time their sales included their entire collection. Especially around the Holidays, I recall two years ago they had 50% off storewide. This year, they had killer deals as well but many, many items were excluded.

Sad sigh.

Totally a beauty pet peeve of mind but The Body Shop Sales make me shrivel up and cry inside a little bit.

What’s your latest beauty pet peeve?

Feel free to rant!

Do share it!

About the Muse

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. But she’s passionate about makeup and is seeking like-minded individuals that like pina coladas, getting caught in the rain, and ones that enjoy spending hundreds of dollars at Sephora without feeling buyer’s remorse. Ulta has a dry oil spray that I loved. It’s gone! Why oh why make wonderful items and then they are gone? I bought 4of them and my is all gone. I wished they would tell you that they will not make them any more so I could had stashed more. 🙂

    • Isabella Muse

It should be mandatory they sent out an email a year before they discontinue something so we can all get up in there and start hoarding!

  • Zachary Thor

I never shop at The Body Shop, but I always take a stop by to browse anyway. The last time I was *holding* a product in my hand from a new line, a salesperson walks over in the cheeriest voice and tells me about how everything is 40% off in the store. Except what I was holding…and that entire wall of products. A lovely experience.

    • Isabella Muse

OMG Zachary! That’s all kinds of rain on my parade right there. Not cool! I have to hate on them because there sale emails piss me off so badly “50% OFF EVERYTHING” and you get to the site, start clicking, and they have “excluded from sale” in mini print on everything I want. Not cool!

  • Justin

Omg when I was working for TBS they started doing those exclusions and I knew it be bad. Customers had so much hate. Even the 3/30 at Black Friday had bizarre limitations. It was like the company wanted the employees to get yelled at by customers

    • Isabella Muse

Awww J I would never ever yell at you for exclusions. But anyone else that worked there I’d reign the fires of hell upon them. Kidding! 🙂 But yeah, I can imagine it must be crazy when you suddenly tell people, “HEY everything is excluded almost!” 😀 That’s what it feels like lately with their sales!

      • Justin

I know that loreal wants to get back to the way body shop was when Anita still owned it i.e. No sales except seasonal ones. And they exclude products that are high profit or cost from sales (insider trading)

        • Isabella Muse

I think if they did one great seasonal sale I’d be ok with that versus endless craptastic sales!

  • Dora

Staying with Body Shop sales, there is now a decent one (40%) but they are out of stock of two the items I want! Grrrr.

    • Isabella Muse

yeah but so many items are excluded 🙁 makeup that I wanted and other stuff darn!

  • Justin

FYI the best sales are the bi annual clearance (not online but in store) I witnessed customers pay 20 for somethings that were 4 in store

  • Rachel R.

False hype created by Limited Edition products that you have to jump through hoops to get. Too Faced Sweet Peach palette is the latest example of this, and it’s really ticking me off. Just let the people who want it, give their money to you and get it! /offrant/

  • Alyssa

Ulta always stresses me out with their deals, because sometimes I’ll get percentage off coupons but then it’ll exclude all the prestige items or some of the new drugstore releases :/

  • Jay

When brands tease a product for months and have extremely limited stock (ahem Too Faced, previously MAC). I bet they didn’t run out of press samples to pimp out on Youtube but they can’t release a normal number? Pisses me off so bad I don’t want the damn thing anymore. I have a career I can’t be stalking sales at midnight like a teenager lol.

  • Cindy

I find that The Body Shop has *SO* many sales (it’s as if they can’t give it away) so if I don’t like one I just wait for the next one, or the one after that, LOL! My beauty pet peeve is Sephora, but I already ranted about that on the other thread, Sephora vs. Ulta LOL!!!

  • Bonnie

Shelves at Ulta that are SO picked over whenever I’m there. Things that never seem to be restocked. My CVS seems to be the worst at this. (Hello, Milani Luminoso!) And why do Bath and Body Works almost-daily emails now never hit my inbox? Now I have to see a blogger talking about a sale before I know it’s happening (and sometimes it’s too late).

  • Teli

I worked there when that nonsense started, and we were also supposed to sell x amount of new products. How are you supposed to sell the new stuff when the rest of the store is B3G3!? Like if you want people to try new products, put them in the sale… Logic = non existent.
    Customer: so what’s excluded?
Teli: grab a coffee, we’ll be here awhile.

  • Heidi

Yeah, The Body Shop’s sales aren’t so good anymore. I used to hold out and stock up on a couple favorites, but now just get the cleansing oil I like there and that’s about it. Last time I went into one of their stores, the sales girl was nice and gave me a few good samples, but she was just shadowing me the whole time and pushing super pricey stuff. I just wanted to look first, dammit.
e.l.f. is bad with exclusions, too. Free shipping for a certain purchase amount but new items are excluded, or something like that. And the item I want is sold out, to boot. I barely give them a glance these days because of it.

  • genevieve

I am not a fan of the Body Shop since I found out that they over perfumed their products…..although there are quite a few that I like (body butters for example). But yes, I really hate those “get 3 products for 2” deal as they are often the most expensive. And the exclusion list is longer than what is available list. So very, very annoying. You would think that brands would want their customers to buy their products wouldn’t you?

  • SuziL

My biggest beauty pet peeve is the VIB Rouge program at Sephora. I don’t try to belong to this rank, but thanks to my Sunday Riley obession, I’ve been here for a few years now. What does it get me? Points, and specials on which I can redeem these points — things I don’t want and don’t need. Do I ever get to redeem points for things I actually want and need? No. Do I get a discount? Once a year. Seriously? I bought three things from Ulta over the last three months and got $11 dollars off my recent $22 purchase. Now THAT’s membership having privileges!

  • Kiss & Make-up

Meh, try being a beauty lover in Europe. The so-called sales and deals we get are downright pathetic.

  • Gisela

I don’t shop at body shop anymore. Here in Sweden they charge a fee of 100 SEK (about 12 USD) yearly for being a club member and that really pisses me off. No other beauty store here does this so I don’t understand why.

Is it the same in the US? I checked the UK website and they don’t seem to charge a fee there …

    • Isabella Muse

likewise here! It used to be $10 (not sure if it still is)!

  • Lorraine

Same tant but with ELF. It used to be that everything was $1 to $3 and you could get 50% off on sale. Now you have products like the aqua whatever blush and bronzer duo, it’s twice the price of the original duos and for what? Infused with purified water…. all water used for cosmetic formulation is purified. And now the new products are excluded from sales, and cheaper older products get discontinued. They’re now the same as any drugstore brand. It’s hard to see why the new products need to be more expensive and hard to justify spending $6 on an ELF blush, when the other duos I got for $1.50.

  • Zovesta

Men (or rather, little boys in men’s bodies) who are “scared” of bolder makeup (read: anything other than “no makeup” makeup). I realize that’s off from everyone else’s answers, but that is my biggest pet peeve. What’s to be scared of?? Red lips and smoky eyes make you shiver in your boots because… the idea of a woman doing what she wants with her face freaks you out? Wtf?
