Tarte Blot Party On-the-Go Mattifiers Fun, Cutely Packaged, But Poorly Formulated

Ok, so you might be asking yourself why does a dry skin girl need Tarte Blot Party On-the-Go Mattifiers ($34)? Technically, I probably don’t. Tarte released this palette with their Athleisure for Spring 2017 and the idea behind it was to have a portable way to to take both your blotting papers and blotting powder with you on the go. Something you can toss into your gym bag that could be used to blot away oil and reduce shine.

I dunno if I’m really thinking about whipping out a compact to blot at the gym. But I will say that it could be potentially handy! I love the cute packaging, I love that they squeeze blotting papers, a mirror, brush, and finishing powder all into one case. The packaging is brightly colored and cute especially if you’re a visual makeup user that finds these things important.

But…

So, a few things here. First off, the palette isn’t refillable. It contains 50 blotting papers and the well that holds them can be used to also hold the brush. Ok, cool, that means things won’t look dumb and uneven once you’re done with your blotting papers as your brush is stored in this location. However, what if you want to refill the blotting papers? It would be cool if Tarte offered refills. That’s doubtful that will ever happen though as compact is limited edition.

Le sigh.

The price is a bit iffy as the finishing powder is smallish at 0.14 oz in size. Tarte Smooth Operator Amazonian Clay Finishing Setting Powder is $34 and contains 0.25 oz of product. Mind you, it doesn’t come with blotting papers but still you’re paying quite a lot for that smaller package of blotting papers that typically run anywhere from $3 to $6 at most if purchased separately.

Lastly and most important, the powder is awful. It’s very dense and I struggled picking it up with the brush. I decided to use my own brush but that wasn’t any better. The texture is really quite dry.

Humff….!

It’s an interesting idea, it’s fun, and cute but Tarte Blot Party On-the-Go Mattifiers are a bit expensive and poorly formulated for what you.

Tarte Blot Party On-the-Go Mattifiers is available now at Sephora.com.

maybe try scraping off the top layer of the powder with a clean spoolie? that’s worked for me a couple times before. it’s fun to see tarte trying a bunch of new things but man, some high price tags and overall very meh reviews! oh well.
