Kose Softymo Nose Clean Pack (Nose Strips) Review

The Muse is lady enough to admit that she buys charcoal nose strips because she can see the ick better when she peels them off. There isn’t anything I can think of right now more satisfying than peeling off a nose strip and studying the blackheads on it.

Am I terribly weird or just plain gross? Could be both but I’m honest enough to admit I love looking at all that ick!

Jump ahead for a review on my fav nose strips!

Although Biore reigns supreme in the world of nose strips right here on US shores, it’s not the case in Asia. Asia’s market is saturated with a variety of nose strips from various brands, obviously Asian’s care more about their noses and blackheads than the average everyday American does if the variety of nose strips is anything to go by!

One of my personal favs are the Kose Softymo Nose Clean Pack aka Nose Strips. These are a charcoal strip used in the same fashion as Biore Nose Strips. Simply wet your nose, apply the strip, and peel it off after several minutes. Proceed to follow up by getting out your magnifying glass and studying the ick that’s been living on your nose, best part of it all in my opinion.

I admit one of the reasons I love charcoal strips is because they are black and show blackheads so much better when peeled off but also they do have some important functions. Charcoal is actually great for shiny noses too! It mattifies the nose while it’s sucking out those evil blackheads. I also find the Kose strips seem to have alot more action going on than a Biore one. They are extra sticky and adhere well to the nose and baby when you rip that sucker off it’ll take your nose and all off, which I happen to like as I sometimes have stubborn blackheads hanging out on the end of my nose.

These run about the same as a pack of Biore at around 6 bucks or so at any Asian market or online I’ve seen ’em in the realms of $6.99-$8.99. I easily locate them at many Asian beauty shops in Queens so they aren’t completely difficult to purchase here in the US. If you live in a heavily populated Asian area or known of an Asian market, beauty store, etc..have a check around and your search should prove fruitful.

These come highly recommended and are great for anyone who likes Biore ones but would like a little more punch to their nose strip.

Loves ’em!

You didn’t think I wouldn’t leave you without a photo of my nasty strip would you? Behold, for the not so faint of heart, my icky blackheads yanked from the root!

Oh Musey, I love you <3
You aren't afraid to show what's real.
I've been eyeing these for the longest time, and yes I'm admitting that I got some big ass buggers on my nose, I just didn't know if they worked.
Thanks to you, I am now gonna go buy a pack tonight so I too can study what comes out.
I'm fascinated by all the tiny hairs that come out too.
p.s did you know that they come in a Men's version?

    • the Muse

LOL Nunu oh thank god you aren’t disgusted 😀 *hugs* These are quite good but be careful VERY sticky so they hurt a little bit coming off 😀 they work AWESOME 😀 LOL so am I! OMG we are SO gross!

Yes i know lol the men ones crack me up I’ve tried them actually LOL

    • the Muse

LOL jen! I’m sad b/c I had done a strip last week so this strip was kinda dull in comparison…must wait for a really good day and proceed to post disgusting blackhead pictures up! LOL

  • Kate

Oh I want I want! Maybe even enough to run through the small asian market where I live to see if they have one.

I’m totally obessed with what my biore strip pulls off my nose. I once asked my husband to do one and then obsessed over what was pulled out. I seriously told everyone I saw that day how gross his pore strip was.

BTW–I just found your site last week and I LOVE it. This will be my go to resource before I buy anything.

    • the Muse

kate they are awesome! LOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL that’s the best part 😀 having a loved one to use as a guinea pig! 😀 Oh my gosh Kate thanks ! That’s really flattering *hugs*

WELCOME! And please do stop by and chat with me and everyone! Always love talking to readers!

  • dangster

LOL. I like using nose strips for the same reasons too–seeing all of my gunk NOT in my skin anymore!

    • the Muse

LOL dangster disgusting, morbid, yet completely awesome isn’t it!? 😀

  • Inês

    Hi Muse!
I’m just like you! I’ve been trying to move away from the nose strips, but oh how they call me… My favorite Nivea ones seem to have been discontinued, so I was just looking for asian alternatives. I’m sold to those!

    • the Muse

ines I never tried the nivea ones. The last time I got stuff from the Nederlands I had gotten some and I misplaced them grrrr! Really want to try them again 😀

Def grab these they’ll yank nose and all off lol!

  • Inês

And omg, I just went to adambeauty’s product page, they have the men’s version with blackhead porn LOL

  • Marina

Biore doesn’t cut it for me sometimes…And I live in Hick Town USA- we don’t have a very heavy Asian population. But these sound wonderful. Oh well. I’ll keep using Biore XD

    • the Muse

same Marina! Def weak for me! Buy ’em online hun! E-bay, shops, etc…all have ’em at decent prices 😀

  • Jeweled Thumb

I love nose strips too! I even make my husband use them (well, ok make isn’t entirely accurate because he actually is amused by the ick that he pulls out).

    • the Muse

LOL jeweled thumb! That’s the fun part, having the boyfriend/husband/mate put one on and yanking it off to stare at it :-D!

  • Ashley

I found the North American Biore Pore Strips did nothing for me but irritate my skin beyond belief! I bought a pack of the Kose ones in Japan & I saw a little ick! But… since my skin is so sensitive, I can’t use these pore strips or else I’ll get red & blotchy for WEEKS. I have to stick to steaming my face weekly =(

    • the Muse

same ashley, way weak! but not irritation thankfully just don’t yank out the gook that a good asian strip does :_D ooo be careful than these are def a no as they yank HARD! steaming def helps and extraction yourself if you have the know how!

  • plue

i also love yanking stupid blackheads out from my nose! and i enjoy looking at them! tee hee!

i think ppl will oily skin tend to get them much easier? 😛

    • the Muse

hey plue yes for sure and larger pores 🙂 I only get them on my nose thankfully! lol but yes very satisfying to sit and stare at the strip!

  • suz

lol thanks for the review…I was just on sasa and put like 5 different packs of nose strips in my cart along with this one!!

  • Kaoru

Hahahah, when I saw that nose strip picture, all I could think of was “you call that a nose strip?” in an incredible bad “call that a knife” parody voice. Man, I love those things. I need to use them more often (I hardly ever do, since I forget, hehe).

I need to check out the Kose ones, but for some reason, the Asian markets around me never have them. Probably always out of stock. Hope I find them this weekend (yay for concerts near markets)!

    • the Muse

LOL kaoru I feel bad b/c my nose isn’t up to it tonight LOL as I did a strip last week so it’s pretty clean, DARN! LOL I really wanted a good one to take a pic of 😀 oh they have ’em online if you get desperate!

Oh concert!? ears perked! What concert!?

  • jonnie

Okay, time to look online… a year or so ago I got obsessed with trying to squeeze all the blackheads on my nose, which of course doesn’t work and leaves me with pinch marks on my face. The Biore strips have always done nothing for me. Now I must try these!

And yes, I love looking for gook on my nose strips as well! 🙂

    • the Muse

jonnie I like the biore ones but compared to some asian ones they are WEAK! 😀 you’ll love these they really dig it all out! ha! me too!

      • jonnie

Okay, so I just bought a pack of these… I so hope to see lots of yuk! 🙂

I got some Airy Whip while I was there… (^_^)

  • Hella

Looking at all the nasty little buggers that come out of my skin is probably the most satisfying thing on the world. Even more satisfying than squeezing a zit:) I haven’t seen those in Bulgaria, but I’ve tried the charcoal strips of another brand – Adwin, a Korean one. The only thing that I didn’t like was the black stuff that was left on my nose after using them. But then I tried the other type, regular ones, not charcoal, and they did work better than the Biore patches. So, Nivea has a lot to learn from Asians… You might have a look at this site http://www.purederm.com/
This is the site of Adwin’s most popular sub-brand here. They have nice sheet masks 🙂

    • the Muse

hahah hella me too! oh yes I’ve tried adwin! thanks for the site though I don’t think I ever explored their site and english to w00t!

  • Angie Twe

I think I have to agree that Biore ones aren’t that fantastic as compared to Asian brands.

And yes Muse, I do study those ick and deep-down I laugh at them and scold them for staying on my nose! Wahaha!

Yep, I do experiments on my loved ones, my brothers and my cousin. I like to see ick out of the nose. (hehehe)
Haha, maybe I’m a bit disgusting by now. oh well…. ^^

    • the Muse

*nods* agreed angie! LOL! LOL not at all 😀 I absolutely ADORE nose strips for this reason! yay for yuk!

  • laura r

aahh so glad i’m not alone in my obsession with examining the strip after use!
(i blame it on being a biologist.)
these look way better than Biore…..i don’t like how Biore’s leave goo around the area after removal. *goes off to track some down*

    • the Muse

haha laura I blame it on being weird 😀 LMAO! Oooo these do too kinda but a quick rinse off and you’re good!

  • Emma

I loves nose strips lol I like the fact these are black to show up the plugs, after all part of the fun is seeing what came out isn’t it?!
Umm do you touch them afterwards to see how hard they are? lol!

    • the Muse

hells yes emma that’s the best part lol! LOL YES! do you? I sometimes pick them out of the strip is that TMI? lol

  • Taryn

I almost never get any blackheads off with these strips or the Biore ones (probably because my nose is impacted with them), but I saw this YouTube video of a girl pulling off the strip and you wouldn’t believe the amount that came off.

It was disgusting and fascinating at the same time. I’m just like you – I enjoy studying whatever comes off (on the rare occasion one maybe does).

    • the Muse

taryn I have two mean nasty ones that nothing will remove, feel your pain! ahhh! Link me up I wanna see someone else’s blackheads LOL!

  • cherrysoftness

    Hello!

I use these! They hurt so much sniff >.< But I intentionally wait a bit longer than suggested to make sure they REALLY cling 😛

My eyes fill up with tears instantly at times when I pull haha does that happen to you, too? But when I look at my cactus-clone nose strip it's 100% worth it. I even inspect it closely 😛

    • the Muse

cherry me too lol! I leave ’em on for like 10 mins! But def they hurt when I yank off! They adhere crazily to my skin ouchie!

but agreed 100% worth it 😀

  • Del

hiya Musey….seems like all yer readers have a fetish with observing freshly pulled blackheads! guess you’re not so weird after all…you’ll have to find something else to weird us out! hee hee…unfortunately I’m finding it hard to figure out the pic…is it just me? I’ll be waiting for a new pic to observe…LOL… maybe when you pick one off you can put it on the counter & take a pic of it! hahhaa…..

    • the Muse

hey dell thank gawd I’m not alone LOL! LOLLLLLLLLLL EWWWWWWWWWW that is so gross but I like the idea ALOT haha!!!!!! the pic isn’t so fab will def get you a new one LMAO!

  • carly

okay, i love women who are honest becuase we all LOVES to see blackheads getting ripped out (also I love watching pimples get murdered too!) Its a ladies secret form of stress relief.
Im definately buying these now! ^__^

    • the Muse

LOL carly 😀 me too, love popping pimples, gross and terribly wrong but can’t help myself ew!

  • Kelsey

Hello! I loved your review, it was honest and helpful! However, I have 2 questions for you (you seem to be experienced at using it ^^): first, do you wash your face first (remove oil) then use this on your nose or do you just wet your nose regardless if it’s oily or not? secondly, how often do you use this? thanks!

  • Marie

Tearing out little ickies from my face… happies. And yes, my entire face, since I’m using Daiso Activated Charcoal Mask. Same concept as Kose but it comes in a tube and black goo (I suppose ’cause it’s charcoal xD) and slap it on thickly to your face and wait for a couple of minutes for the goo to dry …or just the nose area… I usually just put it on my nose and the entire face when I want to feel extra un-icky—but tearing the dried goo-thing out is ouchy but it does its job anyway. I usually steam my face for a couple of minutes to open my pores up and loosen the black/whiteheads… or use my Etude House Heating Scrub to help them come out (they don’t really fall off after you wash the scrub…) and then tear them out with the Daiso mask… Feels satisfying. *nods*

Keep your reviews coming! I especially love your reviews on Asian brands. =)

    • the Muse

lol marie same here just so satisfying isn’t it? haven’t tried the Daiso one…but sounds fab ;-D

aw thanks glad you enjoy ’em more coming soon!

  • Cindy

hi do u know the difference of the black and white pack of these nose strips?

  • Rikachu

    Hey Muse!
Thank you for all of your reviews on Japanese products!
They are so helpful. I’m currently residing in Japan and I have no idea how to pick out the best products. I just bought the Majolica Majorca Lash Expander and I’m really looking forward to testing it out!
I’ve been seeing these nose strips but I always failed to use the Biore ones correctly so I was unsure if I should buy it.

Thank you for all of your reviews! They are extremely helpful and awesome!
