Urban Decay All Nighter Liquid Foundation Review & Swatches
Urban Decay All Nighter Foundation ($40) is a new, permanent matte finish, long-wearing foundation that launched with the Urban Decay Fall 2016 which has a formula that’s waterproof, oil-absorbing, and available in 24 shades.
Fall seems closer than ever at the moment but the hard 90 and upward weather is reminding me it is very much Summer which is why the Urban Decay All Nighter Liquid Foundation gets release just at the right time for this dry skinned girl. I’m drier which means I prefer hydrating cream or lighter, moisturizing fluid foundations. I avoid matte finish foundations like the plague. It’s great that the All Nighter Foundation gets an early release because the weather is still VERY warm and VERY humid which means my skin is bit more shiny and oily. And way more forgivable when it comes to wearing matte formulas! Especially this week when it may just hit the 100 degree mark.
I’ve been testing All Nighter Liquid Foundation since earlier last week and I’m finally ready to share my review and thoughts on the wear.
Take a look!
As per the name, this new foundation was inspired by Urban Decay’s popular All Nighter Setting Spray. It’ll be available in 24 shades when it launches later this month and comes housed a slick gunmetal barrel with a cracked glass cut out that displays the shade through it. The packaging is pretty darn slick for foundation and definitely has that Urban Decay edge-y look and feel. It’s 1 oz in size and will set you back $40 which by the way is the same size and price as Naked Skin Weightless Ultra Definition Liquid Makeup. But you are getting 25% more pigment with All Nighter versus the original Naked Skin formula. So, if you require fuller coverage this is most definitely the formula to go with. The formula isn’t quite the same but I would say that the coverage is about the same as Kat Von D’s Lock-It Foundation.
They aren’t remotely over marketing this formula because it truly does wear all night. I’d say at the moment my skin is hitting a combination moment where my t-zone is oily and my cheeks are drier. This promises to absorb oil and offer an all day wear with a matte finish. It’s a funny little foundation because it does absorb excess oil but it doesn’t adhere to drier areas nor does it suck moisture from skin. The coverage is absolutely seamless and very, very lightweight. I wouldn’t say it sets powdery nor velvety but it does have provide a very thin layer of coverage that adheres and provides a second-skin like finish. It’s actually formulated with a polymer gel and silicones that adhere to skin for full, lasting coverage. It’s a little picky during the application and blending process particularly around drier areas. I’d recommend a sponge or a brush and a well prepped, moist face during application as it tends to drag a little bit as you blend. As long as you prep well there shouldn’t be a problem. The coverage is outstanding and provides a smooth, even finish that’s as close to skin as you can get when you have a good color match. It wears like a champion! I was out on a boat this weekend and it was very, very humid plus water splashing in my face (it was a speed boat) as well as wind, etc…and after all this my foundation remained fresh and flawless. I also did a variety of running around this weekend and last weekend in the heat and I experienced absolutely no fading. I even tested this on a non primed face (I don’t recommend it as blending is difficult) and it still retained the wear for a solid 14 hours and probably would have still held up if I didn’t remove it.
I actually liked it because it didn’t adhere to my dry areas nor did it suck moisture from my skin. Yes, it’s matte! But it isn’t a traditional matte but more of a demi-matte that wears and feels very comfortable on my drier skin. I’m actually looking forward to trying it in the Winter when my skin is much more drier! I have a feeling it’ll still work well even then!
I see the Urban Decay All Nighter Liquid Foundation become a very, very fast favorite for oily skin users who require a long, strong wearing foundation or for even though who are combination or drier. The application is a little irritating but nothing primer and a wet Beauty Blender can’t help. This wears long, strong, and hard plus it provides completely full coverage that will give you a flawless appearance for hours upon hours on end.
Good stuff!
