Maybelline Super Stay Matte Ink Review & Swatches
Maybelline Super Stay Matte Ink Liquid Lipstick ($7.59) arrives with the Maybelline Summer 2017 in an array of long-wearing shades. This formula promises to provide 16 hours of continuous wear with a matte finish.
I’m honestly not a fan of long-wearing lip products and Maybelline Super Stay Matte Ink’s formula is one of the reason I dislike them so much. This stuff is the devil’s work!
Maybelline Super Stay Matte Ink comes your way in an array of bold shades that are housed in a square barrel that holds 0.17 oz of product and has a flocked sponge applicator for application. I’ve seen prices range from around $8 bucks to $10 depending where you buy it.
These have a sweet vanilla fragrance and flavor that I found pleasant enough but deserves mentioning for sensitive users. The texture is thick, creamy, and spreads and applies easily enough on my drier lips with a smooth, even finish that wasn’t patchy. I had absolutely no problems with the color looking dry or even falling into my natural lip lines. The color I choose was extremely pigmented and I have no doubt all the other shades are as well. A single passed yielded beautiful opaque color.
If you like long-wearing lip products you might potentially dig this formula but the market is so saturated with lip products like this already I think you can do a lot better. Why? Because although long wearing, once it sets this stuff is not going anywhere, it has a very odd set that’s very tacky and gross feeling on my lips. I literally felt like it was gluing my lips together! The tackiness is rather off putting not to mention the formula is very heavy. This isn’t a lightweight formula that you put on and forget. This stuff makes itself known, it’s very heavy on my lips and I felt like it was drying them out through the wear.
There’s no doubt they are going to last you all day but the tackiness feels awful. It’s odd because I watched a collaboration video on youTube for these very early in May and not once did the guru mention the tacky issue. I feel like I’m alone experiencing the odd stickiness that happens minutes after application.
One thing to note is you do need an oil-based remover of some sort to get the lipstick off at the end of the night or Maybelline Super Stay Eraser Lip Color Remover actually does a good job of it as well!
Needless to say, this is why I avoid long-wearing lipsticks! This formula is just too suffocating with a tacky set that wasn’t comfortable to me in the least. Props for pigmentation, easy application, and excellent long wear but big nay for the heavy tacky set.
