Kokie Be Bright Illuminating Concealer review and swatches

Kokie Cosmetics Be Bright Illuminating Concealer ($8) is a creamy concealer available in nine shade selections that I recently picked up at Walmart. Yes, Walmart. I’ve been hearing about Kokie here and there and around the Internet and Instagram but I never bothered ordering it from their site. On recent dreaded trip into the evil pits of Walmart I came across a rather brightly lit display of Kokie Cosmetics at Walmart which had a ton of different options from the brand’s permanent collection. I was a little surprised to see it pop up at Walmart in all honesty as Ulta seems to be the one snatching up the rights to brands lately and Kokie somehow quietly slipped into Walmart.

It’s actually not available in all Walmart stores as I did come across it at one Walmart but two others I visited didn’t have it. So, I guess it’s sort of a hit or miss situation if you’ll run into this brand at your local store but it is sold online at walmart.com should like to shop it there.

Of course, being a concealer I had to try the Kokie Be Bright Illuminating Concealer first which has thee worst selection of shades ever. I mean, it was good for me but it won’t work out for the rest of the population. These shades are kind of limited. I picked up Medium Tan because I had to switch my normal Light Medium Neutral shade due to the fact I’m a bit tanner at the moment and this shade is SO NOT medium anything. It’s a quite light with a peachy undertone. Ummm yeah, colors seem way off to me. I also picked up Medium Beige which also was WAY light. My recommendation would be prepared to head up a size or two if you’re a medium or darker skin tone.

That being said I was pleasantly surprised how much I liked this formula! It’s lightly creamy, blends very easily under my drier eyes, and has a nice hydrating feel that didn’t crease nor fall onto my finer lines. It brightened up my eyes beautifully and left them looking fresh and awake. The formula appears pigmented during application but it did sheer away a bit during the blending process which disappointed me a little. I have to admit this reminded me so much of NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer. The texture, the coverage, even the fact that it sheered out as I blended, it all reminded me very much of NARS. So, if you love that formula I’d suggest checking this out. I wouldn’t say it’s a complete dupe but it comes pretty close.

I’ll probably reserve this for my more natural days. When I’m running around on the weekends and don’t want to do a full face of makeup! I wouldn’t say this is going to do a great jog concealing dark circles or other severe issues such as puffiness but all in all it does brighten up the eye area and does a nice job concealing minor imperfections. If you don’t need a ton of coverage under your eyes it’s well worth a pick up! I’d likely buy it again as it’s a nice “vacation” or “run errands” concealer when you don’t have to look your flawlessly perfect and just need some natural coverage!

All in all, a very nice concealer! If it had a big more pigmentation that didn’t blend away I’d likely be doing cartwheels in the street!

Where to buy

Walmart

Kokie Be Bright Illuminating Concealer is a lightweight creamy lightly hydrating concealer that provides sheer brightening coverage. I really liked the texture on this one and felt it blended beautifully under my drier eyes while brightening the area up! I do wish the coverage was a little better as it seems to sheer out considerably during the blending process and didn’t quite cover up all my under eye imperfections but on days I’m going a little lighter with my makeup this fits the bill nicely!

Pros

  • Anyone who doesn’t have a lot of under eye imperfections to conceal.
  • Those seeking light concealing coverage.
  • Anyone looking for a fairly affordable concealer with a nice formula.

Cons

  • Not quite pigmented enough to address many concerns such as dark circles or puffiness and finer lines.
  • Starts out pigmented but blends out to more sheerer coverage.
  • Shade selection is rather poor and won’t be suitable for many skin tones.

Who

Kokie Be Bright Illuminating Concealer is a perfect pick for those who like lighter coverage or who typically don’t use concealer at all under their eyes. It’s also ideal for younger eyes that might be be suffering from dryness, finer lines, dark circles, or puffiness. It’s also an ideal pick for anyone seeking a lighter, more natural concealer!

I am so glad you did a review on the’s and that you didn’t have major concerns. I’ve only seen the brand in Rite Aid they did an entire permanent display and I found it to be a tad pricy even the nail polish but that could just be typical drug store markup. I don’t wear a lot of concealer I have a KVD tattoo one that I got from TJX bUT unfortunately it separated in the heat we had a few weeks ago so this may be an option. Thanks so much!

    • Isabella Muse

it sort of reminds me of Lottie London packaging! Pretty basic! I was surprised how much I liked this. I expected something dry and horrible! Oh no sorry about the KVD! that sucks! Let me know if you try this I’d be curious to see what you think!

I came across a huge endcap of this brand at riteaid last week. Didnt know what, if anything, was good so didnt buy any.

I got the medium beige in my ipsy bag and was pleasantly surprised by the formula! I agree with you, Muse, it’s not enough coverage for dark circles (unless you pack it on..) but it’s great for more natural wear or smoothing out post-pimple pigmentation. I wish there were more shades 🙁

    • Isabella Muse

I was pretty impressed, too bad the shades are off and the formula is a bit more pigmented as I can see myself using this daily!

I saw this at one of my local Wal-Mart’s in a bigger city but not at the other. However my Rite Aid right down the street here in a small town recently got a decent size display of kokie. Nars radiant concealer is my HG so I’ll have to check it out

    • Isabella Muse

no kid! I gotta head into Rite Aid and see their display maybe they have more than walmart!

  • Agona

My Walmart’s cosmetic section is pathetically limited! I think in general, it’s small though. My state tries to protect its local grocery chains. …not sure why that hampers cosmetics though!!

    • Isabella Muse

Which state? Because that’s damn nice of them! We have walmarts everywere it seems!

I received this in my ipsy bag a month ago and have been using every day. Your review of it is spot on. I received the color light, which was just perfect. It brightens under eyes nicely with less creasing than most others. I have never found an under eye concealer with zero creasing. So I am really liking this one…

Hey lady! I do like the Kokie hydrating setting mist. The small eyeshadow palette I tried was dry and chalky, but a couple of YouTubers mentioned the Artistry eyeshadow palettes are better quality. I also like the matte stick lipstick (more of a demi matte and not liquid, which I loathe on my lips), the Lip Veneer cream gloss, and the Volume & Length mascara, which I think rivals Essence as a possible dupe for the IT Superhero formula. FYI! 🙂

    • Isabella Muse

Hi Carrie! I haven’t tried their eyeshadows! You got me curious ;-D Also that mascara sounds brilliant! Have to check that out!
