Maybelline The Matte Bar Eyeshadow Palette For Fall 2018

Maybelline The Matte Bar Eyeshadow Palette ($9.99) arrives just in time for Fall 2018 with 12 silky matte shades inspired by the streets of New York. I’m from New York, I’m not inspired. Not to say I don’t like shades like this! I do! But I’m not sure it puts me in a New York State of mind. Sorry!

Anyway, since I’m obviously in the mood to rant let me also say it annoys me this is available right now in one place. Where you might ask? Maybelline’s website. Annoying. Can’t I just go to CVS and pick this up? It would make life a lot easier. Why are brands like Maybelline, Physicians Formula, Wet n Wild, and Milani all migrating their newest launches to their website? Eh…who I am kidding it probably saves them money as they don’t have to cut the funds with anyone. All money made goes right into their pockets! Makes sense but I find it really annoying having to shop drugstore makeup on different websites. I don’t even know how much Maybelline charges for shipping! Most site have a $25-30 minimum which again, I find annoying! Because say I just want only the palette and there’s that $25 minimum shipping…blah! That means I have to spend $9.99 for the palette and an additional $15 for other stuff I don’t want nor need. This happens to me ALLLLLLLLLLLLL the time with Milani! They’ll launch something new I really want and I have to add two or three items into the order to get the free shipping. It sucks as I have or have tried most of Milani’s line.

I’m on a roll here today! Sorry! I do see from a business side why brands are trying to migrate traffic to their own sites but it doesn’t make it any less annoying.

I’m sure at some point the Maybelline the Matte Bar Eyeshadow Palette will be available elsewhere but it’ll like be a 30 day window before it does launch at other retailers or maybe less hopefully!

As of now it’s available on Maybelline’s website.

What do you think of it?

I agree. Who shops DS by dedicated website? You told it like it is. It’s a RPIA to choose extra crap to make free shipping, and I ALWAYS bow out. I would not mind, if they did it by PARENT company, e.g. a US Cosnova site with both essence and Catrice, or the DS P&G brands, under one umbrella. Or a Markwins site, with PF, and I forget the others, except Lorac. You need more choice than 1 product that you cannot score locally, to order from a DS website. Milani: too true! Big offender of not in store.

it drives me up the wall to shop at a brand’s dedicated site. NO just no! I want to do one big haul at the drugstore not several websites! STOP!

  • Saoirse

I absolutely agree with your rant!

As far as this palette goes, I’m skeptical because I’ve had such bad experiences with Maybelline eyeshadows in the past.

    • Isabella Muse

thanks! Some of the new slurry formulas are nice but def not perfect! Like Lemonade was so much fun but very sheer! Good texture, just not a lot of pigment 🙁

  • Isabella

agree with you if it’s not at Harmon I don’t need it that badly, I want to see it before I buy it

  • Ashley

I agree with your saltiness muse! Lol if websites are gonna pull that then they need to put out $25 worth of new good stuff haha. The only brand that doesn’t offend me with that is Wet n Wild because they put their entire LE collection out. But otherwise I don’t care for this.
Also doesn’t this Palette look like that UD palette thats being discontinued, like the ultimate basics I think?

    • Isabella Muse

ITA! If it’s some great collection I could def haul it all and reach the shipping threshold but one palette? It did sell out but lord knows how much shipping was! Sort of, maybe a little warmer than Ultimate basics!

An all matte palette? Who cares at this point. We’ve seen about 1,000 of these in the last 2 years. Uninspired and have no problem skipping this. Yes, you are correct: this should be available everywhere not just on their website. As you said, I can imagine the shipping charge. At any rate, once again we have to jump through hoops to purchase makeup. No thanks.

PS: I DO NOT live in NYC and even I thought how is this inspired by the city?!?

  • Deborah

Wow, that is so weird! I didn’t even know you could order directly from maybelline! .
I don’t need it because I’ve been collecting matte palettes for some time but this is a great addition to drug store makeup if it makes it there!

    • Isabella Muse

Nor I! That’s apparently new as before you’d see it on the site and it would have links to buy pointing to Walmart and stuff now you can buy direct! Crazy!

  • Andie

Meh on the palette, but I totally agree with you about having to find new stuff on company sites when they first come out or at all. I’m especially aggravated with Wet ‘n’ Wild and Sinful Colors. I used to be able to find tons of their new displays at the local Rite Aids (we have 3), but these days, I’m lucky to find one special/LE display at any of them. There is also a newer CVS near me, but still a bit of a trek out of my way since I only take the bus. I am not busting my butt to go there on the chance they have the new stuff… did once for fancy Peeps, not doing it again. Considering how many cool looking new things WnW is putting out lately, they’re especially at the top of my shit list. I’ve only been buying their product for like 33 years, since I was a tween in Middle School. Don’t get me started on how they’re cutting back on the polishes and coming out with more face stuff, which I do like, but they built their company on lippies & lacquers. They keep changing their formulas and cutting back on color selection. Come back to your roots WnW, come back……

    • Isabella Muse

WnW is a unicorn in the wind for me! Impossible for find! It’s either order online or don’t get it for me. Harmon’s used to always get every single LE display but now nada! I was lucky to find that fire dragon/ice dragon display at Harmon’s this time around and I swear that was by mere mistake on their part somehow! It’s hard to reach minimum shipping on WnW’s site since everything is cheap! It’s like they want to force you to buy those vaults they do or to purchase the entire collection. It’s very irritating. I also noticed WnW sometimes releases the vault first and later on the collection indvidually again forcing you to buy everything! You can stand on the soap box all day with me on WnW! I don’t love the direction they are headed into!

  • Dee

I would buy this if I could find it at Target or CVS but no way will I purchase online from Maybelline. And even though fall is still with us it seems like a crazy time to release this with all the holiday selections out!

  • Cynthia V

Agree 100% and now it’s out of stock on the website so tough luck. Maybelline acting like some high end makeup line…bah humbug!

    • Isabella Muse

It’s such a pain 🙁 but the good news is it finally started popping up in stores!
