5 stars out of 5

Urban Decay Game of Thrones Dracarys Lip & Cheek Stain ($26) is a new, limited edition blood red cheek and lip stain that will be available with the UD Game of Thrones Collection launching April 24th. Winter has finally arrived and with it the battle for the Iron Throne comes to a epic head starting April 14th on HBO. Bookies are taking bets on who will live and who will die and of course, who will take the throne and their favorites are of course, the King of the North with Daenerys Targaryen a close second. In many ways, I feel positive Dany will take the Throne but I think they’ll be some major twist like, GASP, EVERYONE DIES!

Dracarys Lip & Cheek Stain is Urban Decay’s nod to the small but mighty Mother of Dragons, Daenerys. I think most fans would love to see more makeup involving Daenerys and she does get her own shades in the Urban Decay Game of Thrones Eyeshadow Palette where fiery eyeshadows represent House Targaryen. Dany’s an odd contrast as she personally represents cool, icy shades with her long blonde nearly white hair but her nature can be fiery when provoked.

Since Dany’s makeup is non-existent, I mean really they do more with her hair than her makeup, the Dracarys Lip & Cheek Stain is a very fitting release for her. It offers just pinch of natural flush. I think people think of her character and see two color schemes for sure! One of ice and one of fire and that in itself would make some brilliant eyeshadow palette. So, yeah, it’s disappointing she doesn’t get her own eyeshadow palette but it wouldn’t be very fitting for her character to wear a ton of makeup either. Also, that would mean we’d have to have eyeshadow palettes for all the epic women on GOT.

Anyway…..!

That being said. Let’s get on with swatches and a review of the Urban Decay Game of Thrones Dracarys Lip & Cheek Stain!

If you don’t watch the show you have no idea what or who Dracarys is here’s a brief explanation! Dracarys is a call to battle, a call for fire and brimstone, the words spoken by Dany to her dragons that basically gives them leave to BURN all the THINGS! It simply means dragonfire and fire it brings!

Does Drcarys Lip & Cheek Stain bring fire to your cheeks and lips? Naaa…It’s actually pretty subtle and natural just like Dany’s makeup! If you like Benefit’s popular Benetint this is exactly that but in geeky good packaging featuring the House Targaryen sigil which is a three-headed red dragon on a black background. The House’s motto of “Fire and Blood” is not printed anywhere around the sigil.

Unlike Benetint this comes housed in a dropper bottle that’s 0.44 oz in size which is larger in size than Benefit’s version and cheaper too at $26 compared to $30. I swear they put this in a dropper bottle for social media alone! Everyone on Instagram is so very found of making short videos dripping some oil or serum down their face from a bottle! I can just picture the endless rounds of videos now that will pop up doing the same with this.

The dropper bottle is handy though! You can drop a small amount on the back of your hand and swirl a brush in it for application or pat your finger into it for easy application. The formula has a very subtle rose fragrance and it’s a little thicker than Benetint in texture. It’s quite runny but has an almost gel-like quality that Benetint lacks. I thought that gel-like feel is what made application a lot less patchier than Benetint. It’s a really subtle stain so building it up for the best color pay off is necessary otherwise a single drop or two really doesn’t produce a ton of color on cheeks or lips. The formula is a touch drying on lips but a little clear gloss helps things along. It wears for about two hours on my lips and all day on my cheeks until I’m ready to take it off at the end of the night. I wore this on Saturday and Sunday all day running here and there and it sticks around quite well without fading. It blends easily on my drier cheeks and it looks natural while being completely weightless. It’s a nice way to get that someone pinched my cheeks look or just in from the cold. If you’re more about natural makeup this will serve you well for a quick and easy way to give your cheeks a natural flush of color.

Urban Decay Game of Thrones Dracarys Lip & Cheek Stain gets a yay from me. I’ve always had a very special place in my heart for cheeks stains! It used to be my go to blush of choice back in the day! I’d wear nothing else but cheek stain! It’s still a great way for me to easily wake up and brighten my face without applying a ton of makeup! Urban Decay’s formula is a great way to get a nice pinch of pink on my face without a ton of effort.

Urban Decay Game of Thrones Dracarys Lip & Cheek Stain launches on April 24th!

Where to buy

Urban Decay Ulta Sephora Macy’s

Urban Decay Game of Thrones Dracarys Lip & Cheek Stain is a new, limited edition cheek and lip stain that has a runnier, gel-like consistency. It’s housed in a 0.44 oz dropped which is $26 and it releases on April 24th. I enjoyed this formula. It’s the same blood red shade as Benefit’s Benetint and it has a light rose fragrance that’s really subtle. It applies very well on my drier cheeks with a smooth, even finish that wasn’t patchy. The formula wears long and strong and doesn’t come off until you take it off. On my lips the wear is shorter at around two to three hours but a little tiny bit drying.

Pros

  • Ideal pick for anyone that likes Benetint.
  • Gives cheeks a natural flush of color!
  • Perfect for the long Summer months ahead as it’s pretty much water and sweatproof!
  • Wears long and strong on cheeks!
  • Easy to apply and blend!
  • Larger in size and cheaper in price than Benetint!

Cons

  • A little smidge drying on lips and not as long wearing!

I was so excited to see you were sent this collection so I could hear (see?) your thoughts before launch.

As a collector, I’ll probably just snag the vault but I enjoy having my expectations set before trying lol 🙂

    • Isabella Muse

I can’t blame you for wanting the vault. It’s stunning! It really is gorgeous especially for a collector 🙂

  • Michelle

Oooh pretty I’m glad you’ve reviewed this so fast. Is there a bit of sparkle in it? It looks like that on your skin.
And yes, Dracarys is the High Valyrian word for dragonfire.

    • Isabella Muse

no sparkle! Just the lights from my light box prob makes it look that way! 🙂

  • Lauren Havelka

This looks very pretty, though I’m not one for stains really.

That said, I’ll probably end up buying the vault because I’m a nerd, so I’ll happily use it if I do.

I can’t blame you! I got the vault as a press sample from UD and I was geeking all over it. It’s pretty cool!
