Sephora and Kohl’s Reveal Brands That Will Be Available In Their Weird Relationship

Sephora and Kohl’s have revealed some of the 125 brands that will make appearance in stores today. I don’t judge relationships but I’ll sit here and judge Sephora and Kohl’s weird ass relationship until there’s no room in hell and the dead walk the Earth.

As you know Ulta is moving into Target and Sephora said, “Wow you know what? Let’s move into Kohl’s!” I mean, it’s a step above JCPenney (Oh by the way go read up on the weird conspisracy theory aboiut JCPenny versus JCPenney! Hours of entertainment for the whole family!). Good job guys! Do question why Sephora entered into relationships with JCPenney and Kohl’s. Remember that old Sesame Street One of These Things Doesn’t Belong? skit? That’s pretty much how I feel about these toxic romances that Sephora is having with department stores.

Earlier in the year Sephora announced that they would open in 200 Kohl’s locations with their own separate entry door and the Kohl’s website would also start carrying a selection of brands offered at Sephora starting Fall 2021.

By 2023, Kohls plans to put Sephora locations in 850 stores out of the 1150 locations they have in 49 states. It’s a pretty serious relationship. There may be a ring involved soon and a picket fence!

Today news was released of the brands that would appear in these Sephora stores located in Kohl’s. Sephora does have limited space in the locations so they don’t carry every single brand you’d find online or in freestanding Sephora stores. They will have a good deal of brands though 125 of them to be exact.

Brands include Charlotte Tilbury, Fenty Beauty, Rare Beauty, Summer Friday’s, Makeup by Mario, Estee Lauder, Lancome, Clinique, NARS, Anastasia Beverly Hills, Urban Decay, Ilia, Milk, Tatcha, Drunk Elephant, Kate Somerville, Sol de Janeiro, The Ordinary, The Inky List, Fresh, Briogeo, Bumble and Bumble, Olaplex. Fragrance brands include Marc Jacobs, Tom Ford, Gucci, Giorgio Armani and Maison Margiela.

I’m actually shocked they are bringing in luxury brands like CT Beauty and Replica. That’s very interesting! The reason for this is luxury beauty brands are hesitant to cross the line between prestige and mass retail but the pandemic has definitely changed things.

The entire brand lineup will launch on the Kohl’s website on Aug. 1. Sephora’s hope is that they’ll reach a new client base as well as their original fans with this new venture.

What do you think of the Sephora Kohl’s relationship?

I’m trying not to overthink it. I’ll be surprised if JCP is even around in another year or two, and the Sephora stores have to go somewhere to survive. I don’t live in a place that’s big enough for a stand-alone Sephora… although we don’t have a Kohl’s either. 🙁

same but it can be hard…like I wanna know the inside workings of this relationship! Do they do kinky stuff together? Is this a serious relationship? Will there be kids? Stuff like that! Ha kidding..but I mean, I really wanna know what they were thinking. They really blurred the lines with this collaboration. Well, that sucks sorry to hear it!

I get the feeling Sephora passed on Target once upon a time and is RUING THE DAY FOREVER. Target, against all odds, has developed *and maintained* cache. Penn/e/ys: never. Remember Mervyn’s? JC Penney is Mervyn’s status. Target is Sephora status. Sephora thought she could do better, and here we are.

Well, I never got why Sephora went into Penney’s to begin with, but it got my lil city a sephora, tho we do now have a standalone sephora too. As long as they go into one of the kohl’s here, I’m good. I think it’s almost as weird a relationship as JCP, but whatev’s… Kohl’s must have a lotta pull, because they worked a deal to be an amazon return hub too – wonder what info they have and on who…. 😀

I’m glad it’s happening, my small city doesn’t have a Sephora, but does have Kohl’s. It will be really nice to have access to products in town rather than online or driving to bother city.

The lines are blurred now and brands need to move where shoppers are. The old department store concept is not working and the consumer shopping habits are changing dramatically. I think it is a great move. Kohls has been upgrading and reaches a huge amount of shoppers who are not going to department stores. It also is an older demographic than shops at Sephora and reaches a different audience.
I think it is a great move on Sephoras part, also on Ultas past.

They aren’t only blurred but completely crossed over. I don’t see it as being a great relationship though…! Not because of luxury beauty just because it feels like Sephora could have entered a relationship with someone else. Kohl’s doesn’t quite fit with where I’d think they’d get more of a following if that makes sense. Ulta in Target now that’s a super coupling! Sephora would have done great there too!

I also find this bizarre. I feel like the Kohls consumer is not the same consumer buying Tom Ford and Tatcha. I don’t shop at Kohls and when I have had to go in to a store (to use the Amazon return hub) and browsed the beauty section it was very off-putting. Everything was messy and had huge security boxes, the whole thing was just unappealing. Kohls security is legendary so I wonder if Sephora will look similar to the Kohls set up? I am lucky enough to have 3 Sephoras within about 10 miles so this won’t affect me but Sephora is starting to feel over-saturated.

Honestly, it’s very rare I shop at Kohl’s and when I do it’s mostly to look at the perfumes and some of the makeup but I dunno if I’m actually going to go to Kohl’s because Sephora is there if that makes sense? New York has so many freestanding Sephora stores I’d rather just visit one of those. But I guess this is an ideal situation for anyone that doesn’t have a Sephora store around. I think you’ll be safe as far as messiness. Sephora generally runs with it’s own staff and they’ll keep the store looking great. Kohl’s however, that’s an entirely different situation! I’ve been to kohl’s where all the makeup has been opened and it’s sort of gross but that’s def nothing something you’ll need to worry about at Sephora within Kohl’s 🙂

  • Kellly

Sephora might get me into Kohl’s. Otherwise it’s not a store I patronize. Neither is/was JC Penney’s

  • Lvs2Shp

Wonder if you will receive Kohl’s Cash for your Sephora purchases?

    • Isabella Muse

I doubt it. Sadly, may be together but are still separate entities. I’d be shocked if they did allow that!

  • Maria Carnes

I don’t have a problem with Sephora going into Kohl’s store but I don’t think Clinique or Estée Lauder should be sold there because their are actual beauty consultants that actually get proper training to sell the products.
