I Think It’s Safe to Say We’re Going to Skim Over Fall 2023 Makeup Collections and Slide Right Into Holiday 2023 Makeup Collections

It’s August and Summer is ending for me soon. Yes, I know. Officially, Fall Solstice is September 23rd but personally, it’s over for me as soon as September 1st rolls around. I was born in Autumn and I love everything about the season. The weather, the Holidays (Halloween and Thanksgiving), the clothing, the events (apple picking, Halloween parades, and parties, etc…), and of course, the makeup. I miss Fall makeup! I miss it so much. It used to be that Fall Collections would release towards the end of August. In recent years, Fall Collections started launching in July and nowadays as soon as June. Unfortunately, you likely won’t see a heavy Fall 2023 Makeup Collection push. A lot of mid-range brands like Urban Decay, Too Faced, Tarte, etc…tend to either do a small Fall 2023 launch in the Summer and straight into Holiday 2023 Makeup Collections as soon as the first to the second week of September.

Don’t place any bets on seeing a Tarte or Urban Decay Fall 2023 Collection. Urban Decay has been doing smaller little releases like lipstick here, a concealer there, and come to Fall you’ll see perhaps a palette that works as a Fall/Holiday 2023 release and later on small gift sets for the Holiday Season. Tarte already released a few palettes already like Big Ego which is basically their version of a Summer/Fall 2023 release. I think Big Ego will start getting pushed a bit for Fall but as soon as the second week of September rolls around we’ll see the massive Tarte Holiday 2023 Collection (Tarte Holiday 2022 launched September 12th last year). As far as Too Faced we already got the Cosmic Crush Eyeshadow Palette so, Too Faced Holiday 2023 will likely arrive in late September as Too Faced Holiday 2022 arrived September 19th last year!

These are just examples of a few more mainstream, mid-range brands but others normally follow along the same path.

I really do miss Fall releases. I loved Fall Collections which featured a few limited edition single eyeshadow shades, a blush, some lipgloss, and maybe some sort of special item and new item. I was talking about Lancome’s Mystery Game Fall 2007 Collection the other day and this is what I mean by special item. That collection actually featured two. The Mystery Game Palette which was shaped like dice and the Baume Baiser which was a lip balm sphere that tasted like marshmallows! Sorry about the crummy photos but I took them in 2007 LOL!

I wish we could go back to those days. And dare I say it, but I sort of miss the constant round of MAC Collections. Back in the day, it was a little annoying to see MAC after MAC release but I realize now those collections were not only the best of what MAC had to offer but also, the quality was amazing. MAC really doesn’t slam us with launches lately and I sort of miss that.

Do you think I’m wrong? Will we get a bunch of Fall 2023 Makeup Collections? Or will we slide right into Holiday 2023 Makeup Collections?

I think we’ll be seeing more Holiday 2023 than Fall 2023 starting in September.

I definitely agree with you that we’ll dive straight into holiday collections. I don’t feel like I saw that much on social media about the Too Faced Cosmic Crush or the Tarte Big Ego palette. I was like wait, is that something new? I hope they bring good quality holiday releases because sometimes we get so many products but it’s not a true keeper. I also feel like I get better bang for my money buying holiday skincare sets.

Actually me either but it’s there! I think we just aren’t paying attention. Or at least I think that’s what it is for me. I agree! We get a lot but just not enough quality in the products they are giving us 🙁

It really feels like seasonal collections in general just aren’t as big of a deal as they used to be. I wouldn’t mind some fun special fall stuff but I agree with you, I think it’s going to go straight into Winter/Christmas/Holidays.

I’m not the best at articulating my thoughts, so forgive my rambling. But the makeup world feels vastly different than it did a few years ago. There for a long while between like 2015-2019 it was an almost manic pace of insanely hyped releases ALL the time. Like once a month! Remember the insanity of the TF Peach Palette and stuff like that? People were spending an absolutely crazy amount every month trying to keep up with all the new releases.

Now it seems like it’s more about individual items going viral on tiktok. And drugstore brands, especially elf, seem to be doing phenomenally while Tarte, UD, TF etc feel stagnant. When was the last time anyone was excited for another Amazonian Clay palette from Tarte? Meanwhile stuff like the Elf Halo Glow flies off the shelves, at least in my neck of the woods.

I wish someone would do some sort of research study into how the pandemic, the rise of tiktok etc has changed people’s perceptions of beauty and makeup over the last few years because I find it so interesting. Limited editions and seasonal collections just don’t seem to hold the same mass appeal that they once did.

It just slides right into the Holidays after September arrives! This isn’t even for makeup collections but even decor, commercials, movies…they just slide right into the Holidays really, really fast. And for some reason or another it makes it seem like life flies back really quickly. It’s very different! I’ve been doing this blog for over 15 years and so much has changed! It’s crazy. I totally remember all that insanity with weekly releases. TF and UD seem stagnant but Tarte is actually doing wildly well apparently. They seem to have a very strong social presence that people really, really love and that translates to sales for them. I do think a lot of makeup releases hold very little appeal for me. I’ll get excited about random things but not as excited as I used to be but oddly, Tiktok is making a lot of old products viral again not to mention zoomers are spending $$! I think I’m just getting older and to me it feels like the beauty bubble has burst but if you look at sales for some brands they are doing great so someone is buying! Zoomers apparently! But I’m with you! LE and seasonal releases just aren’t exciting anymore!

I am a fall baby and lover and can’t wait for it to arrive, and I start in September like you! You are not wrong about fall makeup collections. They are a thing of the past and I miss it. I love holiday collections too but really miss the fall ones.

I’m sad about the lack of fall collections. They are always my favorite!

Even the other classic fall release BACK TO SCHOOL is seeming a little lackluster. Whoops, it’s holiday crafts/decor already. Not really into spooky yard or wreaths just yet. I need markers and folders starring my fave art or dogs. And Thanksgiving has all but disappeared, excepting pig out, HS football scores and who burned their house down frying the bird. You tend to forget how anticipated and innovative the old timey seasonal releases were. But then Xmas was EL blockbusters, not offshore mfg w/questionable quality.

truth! and I love school supplies LOL! 😀 Thanksgiving is skipped completely for Christmas. Such a shame!

I love fall and fall makeup colors. We had that Tarte Maneater After Dark last year (which they could definitely do a Vol 2 with less of the same pale colors & some others instead), the Too Faced Pumpkin. Hope we see some fall palettes and definitely can’t wait for the Holiday ones. Thank you for the update!

I’m really old and remember when the only new makeup collections were spring and fall, with a few individual items throughout the year. Christmas was not a big time for releasing new makeup; you didn’t buy for yourself then, and the gift-buying was more perfume and other fragrances.

To me, a “real” fall release was last year’s Hudson Valley eyeshadow palette from Nomad Cosmetics. Fall in a box. However, I didn’t buy it because all the shades except for the browns would’ve looked terrible on me. But boy I loved looking at the photos!

I even think the “pumpkin spice” fad might be passé now; do you? At least in makeup. It was done to death a few years ago.

I saw that palette and thought it was beautiful! didn’t indulge because I have so many shades like it but it really was a lovely looking palette! Yeah, I think so too because I haven’t really heard as much about PSL as I normally do across social media!
