About the Muse

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. But she’s passionate about makeup and is seeking like-minded individuals that like pina coladas, getting caught in the rain, and ones that enjoy spending hundreds of dollars at Sephora without feeling buyer’s remorse. If you’re that person feel free to reach out and leave a comment or follow me on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Bloglovin‘.

What do you think about the whole Youthforia foundation controversy and how their social media/founder has kept quiet?

    • Isabella Muse

wait, what? tell me more…! I didn’t hear about! I’m in a bubble over here because my real job is keeping me crazy busy so haven’t been to update to date on the beauty news lately!

    • Isabella Muse

oh wow just googled. I totally missed this and I follow Golloria on tiktok! It appears they did address it on tiktok but in a rather awful way. They went to a mall and applied the shade on two guys. Oh god! What a stupid way to address controversy https://www.tiktok.com/@youthforia/video/7361493947035733256?lang=en <=======This was posted. I'm embarrassed for them! This is worst than the Shape Tape drama.

I find it really disappointing for a minority-owned brand to do this and for the owner/founder to keep quiet rather than apologize/address the issue head-on. Of course everyone makes mistakes, but this was a huge one and how the shade got approved and manufactured is beyond me. I think their Instagram page has also limited new comments from being posted which just screams that they’re in hiding and don’t want to do any damage control. I am so glad I have never bought anything from the brand and will never.

It’s actually embarrassing and cringy she addressed it in a Tiktok but sort of made fun of it in a way 🙁 How disappointing because I really like the brand! She actually turned off comments on the Tiktok she did. Doesn’t surprise me IG also has limited comments. That’s ridiculous. Address it and allow others to speak on it versus trying to silence them. What a shame. How unprofessional 🙁 And as you said how in the world did they even let such a shade go into production!??!?!

I believe that Credo Beauty has pulled the entire line from its website. I’m curious to see if Ulta and other nationwide retailers will do the same in response to the outrage.

          • Isabella Muse

Good for Credo! I think what’s most upsetting is they decided it was a good idea to go to a mall and “find” people of color to try it on. Talk about make things worst! Just man up, apologize, explain how or why something like this was released, admit to the error and of course, offer to do better and to pull the shade and promise to reintroduce shades that are suitable for women/men of color. But no, they decide it’s a good idea to take the shade and show how it does work. Jeez. Talk about messing up majorly and not taking responsibility.

          • Jamie

Yeah it almost feels as if the founder wanted to save face by trying to show that the shade works for at least one person (it doesn’t) and now is keeping quiet on the backlash hoping if they wait long enough, the outrage will die down and eventually everyone will forget it. I hope that people never forget this. I first heard about this on a segment of GMA last week and am sort of surprised the brand is not even responding to requests for comment from major new outlets. I also hope Ulta and all of the other retailers pull the brand soon.

I think the sad fact about society today is THAT DOES in fact happen. I see it a lot with a variety of different influencers who do really awful things and people just forget about it and begin to support them again (I won’t mention names but I’m sure you can imagine some of the people I’m talking about). It works the same for brands sometimes as well so I assume that’s what Youthforia is hoping will work for them. It’s pretty outrageous to take what was essentially black face paint and go to the mall to try it on people to endorse “It works see guys!??!” Jeez. I heard it from you first. I haven’t really been on my game and funny you mentioned it to me and now it’s popping up for me everywhere since I googled it. They should pull it for sure! I’m sad as I liked the brand, what a shame :-/ Brands really need to grow up and address controversy like an adult.

I’m skipping the BBW Halloween sale and it seems some of the candles you are paying mostly for a fancy lid. But, I got a bunch of hand soaps since I was down to 1 again. $2.95 is a good price and I finally got a coupon which I stacked with the sale price in store. I got the hand soaps for under $2 each! I hadn’t gotten a coupon in a very very long time in app or mail and finally lo and behold there was one in the app. I think starting to shop in store rather than always online did do something to help, but I also deleted and reinstalled the app on my phone and did the request to be sent mailers thing I did. Whatever I did it worked.
