Have You Ever Considered Starting Your Own Makeup Blog?

Have you considered starting your own

Have you ever considered starting your own makeup blog? Do you love beauty and makeup so much that you’ve wanted to blog it?

I’ve always had a passion for makeup, skincare, and beauty but starting a blog was never on my mind! It all happened rather randomly.

Have you ever considered starting your own beauty blog?

About the Muse

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. But she’s passionate about makeup and is seeking like-minded individuals that like pina coladas, getting caught in the rain, and ones that enjoy spending hundreds of dollars at Sephora without feeling buyer’s remorse. If you’re that person feel free to reach out and leave a comment or follow me on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Bloglovin‘.

    Funny you should ask…
Actually, I have. However, I am can have very sensitive skin so I am not sure that I would provide all that you do. I have been on prednisone a few times due to allergic reactions with products.

Maybe something about being the glam girl that jams the slopes by day only to hit the parties and events in the ski resorts as well as the rest of the world.

    What do you think?

    • Isabella Muse

I’d read a blog about a girl that skis all day and parties all night hehe 🙂

      • Vail Valley Girl

Oh, I don’t know about party all night, Muse.
I have a day job. I just ski on the weekends. Oh, I hit the bumps, on occasion too.

I love anything with sunscreen in it.

I confess to using Benefit Erase paste to cover up a few bad falls. One lead to me wearing a helmet 13 years ago.

        • Isabella Muse

hey any skiing is good skiing 🙂 Did you see the new Safety Kit from Sephora? Totally a cool way to try some new SPFs 🙂

  • hollie

The only thing that stops me is I can’t think of a name 🙂

  • Heidi

I’ve entertained the thought, and some people have said with my obsessions it’d be a good idea, but while I’d love to do the writing part, I’m not into taking photos of products and swatches. Plus I’ve got a really good job that I love, so I’ll stick to reading other blogs and shopping on the side.

  • Tina Lam

I would love to start my own makeup blog.I adore makeup and love trying new things.Problem is I have no clue where to begin…and I don’t even know if people would read it.So for now,I’m living my “blogger” dream on influenster 🙂

  • Andi

I actually have a domain AND a focus, but I don’t like the web design?? I want it to be perfection, and it doesn’t feel like me, so I lack motivation to get started. Plus all the legal stuff is intimidating. I don’t know if I have done the disclosure/privacy correctly.

  • Justin

I would love to. I just don’t know how well it would take off and I’m not hugely computer savvy

    • Isabella Muse

You’d be GREAT at it J 🙂 do videos! You’re too cute for merely blogging 🙂

  • Tracy

I have and I did about a month ago and let me just say it’s a lot of fun but also a lot of work. I went the self hosted route which allows me to be more creative and have more control. The most common question I get is how I take care of my skin and most people don’t believe me when I tell them how old I am. My answer is always why would I lie about being 40? The best part about it is sharing my knowledge and talking to other beauty lovers. The worst part is having wait to use a product until you photograph it LOL.

    • Isabella Muse

lol you’re a liar! I was reading and I don’t believe you’re 40 hehe but that’s a good thing right? Having people tell you’re a liar about your age 😀 Self host is the way to go and a very smart move! I wish I did it when I started Musings of a Muse! 🙂 I’ll be reading Tracy! Enjoying what I see so far!

      • Tracy

Thanks for checking it out! I have you and all the other bloggers who came before me to thank as far as choosing a platform. I’ve heard it too many times that it’s harder to make the switch down the road.

        • Isabella Muse

Hey Tracy! AW shucks thanks girl! you flatter me! 🙂 It is it is indeed! You were very smart to start off this way! You wanna change your permalinks (BE CAREFUL) structure though to reflect your post name for the best SEO as well. Do this now before you have too many posts under your belt but again just be careful and read on this before switching!

  • Meghan

I really want to start one! The main things that stop me are time, the internet seems already saturated with blogs, and why would anyone read what I write? Although I’m starting to realize that it won’t matter what anyone else will think of my blog, as long as I’m happy with it!

    • Isabella Muse

Honestly, you’re right Meghan. I’m amazing how many beauty blogs pop up daily! But DON’T let that be a deciding factor of starting one your own. I was talking to myself most days when I started blogging 🙂 it always amazes me so many people now read Musings of a Muse. It takes time and patience but you can build a following 🙂 and people WILL want to read what you write! 🙂

  • Liz Hover

For years I read great beauty blogs (like yours) and then one day earlier this year I realised that I spent so much of my time thinking about makeup, buying it, reading about it and using it that WHY DIDN’T I HAVE MY DARN BLOG about it? So I started one.

I’ve been into makeup since my teens but my interest had waned over the last 10 years since I moved to Canada. Then I turned 40 last year and discovered makeup all over again.

I see a lot of other folks who’ve commented here are worried about how many people will read it and the proliferation of existing beauty blogs but I reason you should blog for YOU and because you’re passionate about it.

If readers come, they come and if they don’t, that’s okay. I’m enjoying having a record of my 40s. Blogging should be fun. Not a chore.

If you want to start a beauty blog because you’re passionate about makeup DO IT!

    • Isabella Muse

EXCELLENT advice, post, and comment Liz 🙂 Thanks for sharing!

    • Tracy

Yay! This makes me so happy to hear that an “older” crowd is getting in on the action! LOL I’m in the same boat with starting a blog and the whole discovering makeup all over again and it’s been so much fun. I would love to read your blog. Congrats!

  • Ice Princess

I actually have however it doesn’t seem to doing well.
However I have patience and I hope one day my blog can just be as great as yours!

    • Isabella Muse

I’m sure it will be ice princess!!!!!!!!!! 🙂 Good luck!!!!!!!!!!

  • Joan

I took the plunge a few months ago and it’s been really fun. It also helps me justify my pretties because it’s “for the blog”. Right haha. Not really sure who my audience is, I’m just doing me right now.

    • Isabella Muse

haha same here, I used that excuse a lot, “it’s for the blog” yeah sure, right!

  • Caroline

I had one going for about a year., but then I let it languish and eventually I decided to put it out of its misery. Blogging is fun, but a LOT of work! Every post would take me 2-3 hours to complete, after I took all the photos, edited them, wrote the post, etc. I’m also not the best at self-promotion, so it was hard to do all that work knowing there were only like three people reading (one of whom was my mom, ha!). Maybe I’ll get back into it one day, though! God knows I have enough beauty products to review, LOL.

  • TropicalChrome

I’ve thought about it, but I always keep coming back to the answer of Not Now. There’s a real empty space in the niche I’d go for – over 50 and not all about moisturizer and Rogaine – but I simply have too many obligations right now to allow for the kind of time I know it takes (I’ve had blogs on other topics in the past).

My ideal would be a group blog where I’d need to post only once a week or once every other week, but organizing that takes time and energy too. So right now I read a lot of other blogs and comment when appropriate :).

  • Renu

I began one but of late, I’m finding it difficult to blog, work and live at the same time. HOW do you manage to juggle a blog and full-time work, Musey? I’m fine if I can come home at 5, but I work OT on most days and am near-collapse half the time 🙁

    • Isabella Muse

I’m very strike on myself 🙂 I get up early, I try to fit in as much as I can, it’s hard but I try to keep my schedule as organized as possible 😀 I hear ya! Believe me I get tired too but I press myself hard!

  • Aaisha

I did start a blog…I don’t update it as often as i should…or review the many products I have amassed in its name….but I do have a blog. 🙂

  • clive

I am disabled and try not to let my illness impact my looks. I make an effort to look normal. I need makeup blogs to help me. I am on a limited income and you are the only one the covers regular drug store brands. You are a big part of me feeling okay. I missed you when you were on vacation. You make going to the drugstore fun. I don’t have money to buy makeup in the fancy brands, but you have exposed me to many things I have never heard of. So no, I have never blogged. But keep blogging on all makeup products so I can learn.

    • Isabella Muse

Clive, this comment made my day! Thank you so much! It’s really a drive and motivation for me to hear that people enjoy Musings of a Muse so much and that they feel it helped them make some purchase or another 🙂 I’m glad I somehow touched your beauty life in some way! That pleases me to no end 🙂 xoxoxo! I MISSED all of you too while I was away 🙂 xoxoxo! P.S. Always FEEL good about yourself! Not just ok!

  • Dora

Was hoping you were going to tell the story about how you started your blog in this post . . .

    • Isabella Muse

haha I thought everyone knew that story Dora 🙂 You never heard it!? I feel like I told it so many times and didn’t want to be repetitive! 🙂

      • Dora

Nope! I’ve been reading you for a year or more. Would love to hear it if you feel like repeating it!

        • Isabella Muse

lol awesome someone that doesn’t know the story 🙂 <3! I actually started Musings of a Muse on MySpace. At the time my xboyfriend's father created these masterful blog posts on MySpace and he had this cult following of old ladies that read his content! It was quite funny. He even had a self published book on his little life blog entries. His passion, dedication, and just the way he interacted with readers really inspired me and so I started doing little blog posts on myspace and later on livejournal....several years later here I am still writing about makeup (and he's still sharing his life stories too!). 😀 Boring story but always fun to tell! 🙂

          • Dora

It’s not boring at all! It’s a cool little story — thanks for sharing it. Ah, MySpace. To answer the original question, I have had thoughts about it (or not really thoughts about starting one, but ideas about what I’d write about), but it really doesn’t “go” with my regular, Clark Kent, day-job life. I’ll stick to reading and commenting!

          • Isabella Muse

thanks chica 😀 haha yeah remember myspace?! 😀 haha! I like my Clark Kent day job too! If I had to do beauty 24/7 365 I’d probably go nuts 😀

          • Anna Fantasia

Love it! I have been reading your blog for years and never knew! 🙂

          • Isabella Muse

haha 😀 I should do a story on it one day! I gave you the condensed version!

  • Caroline

Gee, with all the makeup I’ve purchased since April, you’d think I’d want to …but heck no! :-). I love yours and seeing all the pretties and what you post ….I really appreciate your work! And yays to those starting out! Have fun!

  • Bonnie S.

Yes, I am starting a blog about being beautiful in your 50s. The thing is, at this age, makeup lover that I am (I mean, makeup hoarder), I’ve come to realize that beauty is so much more than skin deep – something I never believed when I was younger. So I’m going to delve into all the issues around beauty including attitudes, behaviour, dealing with stress, as well as putting your face on!

    • Isabella Muse

Bonnie that is excellent! I look forward to reading it!

  • Anna Fantasia

I have one! not nearly as complete or amaze-balls as yours muse, with a very small readership. Occasionally, I will break up my make-up chat to talk about my ghost-hunting adventures as I give paranormal groups (some televised and some private)overnight tours in a haunted mansion here in Cali.

    • Isabella Muse

oh stop! I love you Anna 🙂 What’s your blog!? I wanna read about makeup and ghost hunting (I freaking love reading anything ghost related)!
