I picked up the new Schick Intuition F.A.B. Razor ($9.99) which promised me that I could shave forwards and backwards. Wait, what? A razor that shaves backwards and forwards!? That’s incredible! It would cut my shaving in time! It would take the chore out shaving! Could you imagine!? You could go down one leg and come right back up it without cutting yourself.

This is surely a miracle razor.

Let’s check it out!

The Schick Intuition F.A.B. Razor will set you about ten bucks depending where you buy it and it comes with two replacement razors. Considering replacement razors cost an arm, a leg, your soul, and your firstborn child I thought that ten bucks for the handle and two razors was a fair enough deal. Plus I’m sure at some point they’ll be coupons that pop up and sales at your local drugstore and you might score it for even less.

The idea of the razor is that it allows you to safely shave back and forth thanks to the fact it has two sets of blades that face in opposite directions. This seemed a great way to save time during shaving as you aren’t moving in one direction and don’t have to start from the bottom. You can just move the razor down and back up easily. Cool right?! And pretty damn innovative too!

Now I totally brought into the marketing on this and after watching the youTube video they created I was racing to the drugstore to buy one of these for myself. In my excitement, I failed to notice that the model in the video does not have a SINGLE HAIR ON HER LEGS OR UNDER HER ARMS! Sigh. I’m a hairy beast and can’t really relate. It would have been great if they had some chick that looked like a yeti sitting in a garden tub shaving her legs. Nope, they had a woman that was moving the razor up and down her completely hairless legs and under arms. Even as a long time blogger I get sucked into false advertising.

Needless to say, I thought using this underarms would be particularly helpful but I’ve had laser treatments under my arms so I was only able to test on my legs and I can honestly say, despite what PopSugar told me in their review I was unable to shave back and fourth and and up and down.

Here’s the thing. Since this has two sets of blades you’re actually getting a lot less power than if you had one set of blades facing in one direction. That means if you decide to shave up or down depending on your preference this razor will remove less hair as it expects you to move up and down which will apparently get you a closer shave as well as allow you to shave your legs (underarms or whatever) faster. I shave my legs upwards and in my experience, with the razor, it removed a lot less hair due to the lack of blades. But hey, I could use it going down now too! So, the method was if I did it up one pass and down the other, I’d probably remove more hair.

No.

That didn’t happen.

When I moved in upwards it did remove some hair but when I attempted to move it down in the same area all it did was push the hair I had removed down and removed very little hair on the downward stroke. The blades are supposed to pivot in the direction you’re shaving but I’m not sure they actually moved. I read a few reviews that said this actually caused cuts but thankfully I didn’t experience any cuts but I also didn’t experience any hair removal either.

I decided that I’d urge some of my friends and my sister to purchase one of these as I really wanted to see if what I was experiencing would match up with their experiences. Most of them described the same experience I had that shaving in one direction removed less hair than their normal razor and shaving in the opposite direction just seemed to push the hair downward but didn’t really remove it.

To say I was disappointed was an understatement but what do you expect from a woman’s razor created by a man?!

Oh well!

Needless to say I’m going to say save your ten bucks and buy something else!

Where to buy

Amazon Target Walgreens

Schick Intuition F.A.B. Razor is a new razor with pivotal blades that allows you to shave backward and forwards buy sadly, as great as the idea is in theory it doesn’t quite work out correctly in reality.

Pros

  • Anyone who has light, fairer hair might see some benefit from this.

Cons

  • Anyone with coarse, darker, thicker hair.
  • Anyone prone to ingrown hair.
  • Anyone looking to shave backwards and forwards and vice versa (it simply doesn’t work out the way they advertise it).

Who

Honestly, if you have really light, fair hair maybe you’d see some benefit from this razor but those of us with thicker, coarse hair should skip it!

I don’t know why I’m afraid of these, like the backwards blades would cut you. But I may have been sucked in anyway by marketing, so thanks for the honest review!

    • Isabella Muse

My pleasure! Honestly, I didn’t experience cuts thankfully but I read some horror show reviews that said it cut legs up pretty badly! I didn’t have that problem. For me, it felt like I was pushing the hair around my leg but not removing it!

    • Isabella Muse

lol thanks Laurie! indeed! There are too few of us that will admit yeti status ;-D I’m not only a member but also the president of the yeti club lol!

    • Isabella Muse

glad to hear it! I always feel like I’m the only person that experiences issues with products sometimes ;-D always sort of relieved when people are like, “yup! me too!”

  • Dawnn

I am soooo glad I am not the only one this did not work for total FAIL!

    • Isabella Muse

I’m glad to hear it because a I heard more raves than rants for this one! sometimes I think I’m crazy when something isn’t working for me but the whole world is raving it!

How painful is the laser removal for the underarms?

I use men’s Norelco for my legs and it’s great. I even dry shave my legs with it!

    • Isabella Muse

I was great my first time. 30 seconds, quick zap, felt like someone snapped a rubber band under my arm. Nothing dramatic or painful! After I felt a little sensitive, like I had a heat rash. But my next time it felt really bad! Like a burning sensation 🙁 And my under arm felt quite sensitive for a long while after! It got worst each treatment. I was glad to have it over and done with. I had 5 sessions total and after that smooth as baby’s bottom. It was expensive, a bit painful, but worth it! If you do it be careful, read reviews for the person that will be performing the treatments, make sure they have a solid reputation! I use men’s mach 3 razors ;D smoothest shave ever!

  • Jujubes

You are so funny!!! 😀 well, this kind of advertising is just like Neutrogena using Nicole Kidman to promote anti-wrinkle cream! Thank you for the review, I would not want to chance cutting myself, good old Bic would do for now !

    • Carol G

I was thinking the exact same thing about that commercial with Nicole Kidman in it! She’s botoxed to the max. Please.

  • LA

Sorry this didn’t work out for you although your review did make me laugh. What is your HG razor for legs?? I buy a different one every time because I’m always convinced there’s something better out there.. and I end up hating half of them. Signed, a fellow Yeti!

    • Isabella Muse

lol thanks LA glad you laughed! I actually like men’s razors more than women’s. the gilette mach3 are amazing! Closet shave ever! ;-D

      • Carol G

I’ve been using men’s razors for years. Yes, the Mach 3. You have to take out a bank loan for the refill cartridges but I get them at Sam’s. One blade does last about 4-6 weeks though but I agree with you, Muse. Very close shave and better than any “women’s” razor. In fact, why can’t they just make razors for everyone? Why are there “men’s and women’s “. We all have to shave some part of our body so just market the razor towards all people.

        • Isabella Muse

Likewise! I can totally get a month out of mach 3 and if I buy a Venus it lasts like a week! LOL too true! WTH do we need to market razors to different genders! Just gives us a good sharp razor that works!

          • Claudia

I think it is the pink tax. Shows up in my kids clothing so I buy my daughter (2year old ) boys shorts or lined boy pants for the winter.

  • Deborah West

Yeti in a garden tub! I enjoy your reviews! Highlight of my day!

  • Felicia

Darn! I have been on the search for this razor for weeks, so excited to try. I’m so glad I never found it and saved my money. Thank you for reviewing this. I’m so bummed it didn’t work out. It Seemed like such a good idea.

  • vanilla

I just bought this a couple of weeks ago. Darn it. guess im stuck with it.

  • sarah

I have fine hair and felt that the intuition fab razor is a complete waste of money, it doesn’t give a close shave, i won’t be buying any replacement blades for this, and i will be returning to Gillette as this gives a closer shave.

  • Kella

Wow I’m shocked to see so many commenters had similarly poor results from this razor. I have NEVER had a better experience with any other razor, on both my legs and bikini area. I may be doing it differently than most though, I will latyer my legs up and then start at my ankle. I pull the razor up toward my knee, then in the same stripe I go back down and then up and back down for a total of 4 passes on each stripe. However, I can do the 4 passes in a matter of like 2 seconds, without even needing to look at where I’m going and can shave blind areas very efficiently with this. I have been unable to find replacement heads for it for about 5 months and am so in love with it that I finally broke down and ordered like 30 from eBay because I don’t want to ever have to go back to regular blades ever again.

    • Isabella Muse

Hey Kella! Different strokes for different folks! If it worked for you that’s awesome!!!!!!!!! That’s really all that matters ;-D
