Let Me Tell You About That One Time Ulta Shipped Me a Sample Of Lime Crime Unicorn Hair Semi-Permanent Hair Color Tint

Ulta hasn’t quite gotten my memo about how I hate unicorns and I wish death to all unicorns on the planet. The makeup world has ruined all things unicorn for me (especially you Tarte! You’re the most guilty of all for ruining all the things unicorn for me! Sneer!)! Legend is ruined for me! RUINED! I’m on Darkness’s side! Kill the unicorns!

Anyway, Ulta hasn’t obviously has not read my memo on unicorns and has been trying to convince me to dye my hair with Lime Crime Unicorn Hair Semi-Permanent Hair Color Tint for the past year. I dunno why, I dunno how, I don’t understand, I don’t get it but I have gotten at least five free samples of Lime Crime Unicorn Hair Semi-Permanent Hair Color Tint in the past year with my Ulta online orders.

WHY!? WHY!?

But the most insulting thing of all is my most recent order when Ulta shipped me a sample of Lime Crime Unicorn Hair Semi-Permanent Hair Color Tint.

Yes, you read that right.

Here’s the deal.

I spent a good deal of money at Ulta last month on some gifts, essentials for myself, and some new items I wanted to review on the blog. Within a day I got a shipping notice from UPS about it arriving within the next two days. Ulta has been rocking shipping lately. I live in New York and I get packages within three days or so. It’s pretty fast.

Now lately, I find Ulta shipping a little annoying as they do this “Part of your order” has shipped BS. This never happened before and I don’t know what is going on. Maybe they have different warehouses they ship from but the fact is, it’s sort of annoying not to get my order in one box. But I get I have to just go with the flow. So, that initial shipping notice said that part of my order shipped and within a day I got another notice that the rest of it was arriving soon too. I didn’t really check to see what had shipped I was just like, “Ohhh yeahhh time to stalk the mailman!”

I got one of the typical rectangle medium size boxes that Ulta favors shipping in within four days of my order. It was really light and I was a little disappointment! I figured it was a lipgloss I ordered and I was like, “Wow waste of packaging!”

I soon realized they had shipped my entire order out in one box but they shipped a sample, A SAMPLE, as in A FREE sample of Lime Crime Unicorn Hair Semi-Permanent Hair Color Tint in a separate box! Talk about a waste of shipping fees (on them thankfully and not on my dollar) and packaging! I swear they are dying for me to dye my hair!

Guys, what in the freak is happening over there? Ok, in their defense maybe this had to go ground or something because it was a fire hazard?!?! I’m trying to give them the benefit of the doubt here but I think someone really needs to speak to the shipping department because they have to be losing money by shipping a sample of hair dye in a big old box.

Insert my eyes rolling into the back of my head right here.

    OMG!! Something similar happened to me too a while back! My Skinstore order shipped in two parts. The bigger of the two boxes just contained my GWP–a teeny tiny sample moisturizer. I guess what was in there and had my boyfriend open it up and look for it among all the packing material. He would say I buy online too much, and I would be, like, “nooooo, honey. Look at the waste of boxes. It’s not always me.”

      WHY? It’s so dumb! That’s such a waste of packaging and shipping dollars! How dumb! LOL!

    A while back I ordered a box of Sharpie pens from Amazon for a good price. Imagine my shock when a massive box (like 16″ x 16″ x 8″) shows up at my door 2 days later. It had all that air bag padding in it and it contained…. Wait for it……. A SINGLE PEN!!!! Not even a box of pens. One pen. I think the 3rd party seller was trying to fix their cheap price by messing with me. Amazon made it right and I got an entire box of pens but I couldn’t believe my eyes.

    Amazon does this all the time! It makes me angry because that is such a waste of materials and resources, etc.

      ps some amazon orders could totally go into a tiny envelope but nope, they’ll use HUGE cardboard box to ship a tiny little item!

    About a year ago, I placed an order from Sephora that shipped in multiple boxes. One of the boxes only contained a single lipstick, and it was a medium-sized box. I have often wondered why Sephora doesn’t use smaller boxes or maybe envelopes, considering that so many cosmetics are tiny. They could really cut down on packaging if they wanted to… I wonder if they think it would make them look cheap? I know they try really hard to maintain their luxury image.

    I also got one of those Lime Crime samples with an Ulta order. Has anyone ever tried them? I would like to know how it works on dark hair. I had a really bad experience with hair chalk a few years ago, and don’t want a repeat of that. Off to google reviews…

      It’s just so darn wasteful :-/ I haven’t tried mine! I’m guilty of throwing them out!

    Well it’s not just Ulta, although they are guilty as hell for using large boxes for one item like you said. I just got an order from UD. One eyeliner. In a big box with tissue paper and bubble wrap.
    Sephora: a rollerball of perfume in a big ol’ box.
    Amazon: a L’Oreal blush chucked in a big box with no paper, bubble wrap, nothing. Needless to say it was shattered.
    Just ordered a Morphe palette from Ulta and although it was actually wrapped it still arrived with broken eyeshadow.
    Idk what these companies are thinking. It’s either feast or famine with the packaging.

    This really bugs me, especially with Amazon. A while back, I ordered an under-door sweep thingy, since my apartment front door had a really huge gap under it, letting in all sorts of creepy crawlies. It was just a flexible plastic bracket you slide onto the bottom edge of your door that basically closes up the gap, maybe 3′ x 1.5″. Instead of just curling it into a smaller box, they sent it to me in a box that was probably 4′ x 1′! For something that was an inch and a half wide!

    Nordstrom does it too. I received a makeup sharpener in a box. Why it couldn’t go in an envelope, I have no clue.

    All this talk about packages from Amazon reminds me of the recent Dr. Who episode of an ENTIRE PLANET being a warehouse called Kerblam! (their homage to Amazon?)
    So far all my orders from various companies have been grouped together.

      LOL no! It’s perm so, nope ;-D typically if I add in color it’s a weekend temporary thing and I can go back to normal boring brown come Monday!

    One of my biggest pet peeves is how places ship items. The worst insult: I ordered 2 items from Amazon. One was a cloth Item (clothing) and the other was a breakable item. The cloth item came in a huge cardboard box with AIR BAG PADDING, the breakable Item was thrown into a bubble mailer without any extra padding. I was like, WTF?!

    It’s terrible, but I’m also in shock because you actually get samples from Ulta. They don’t bother sending me samples, even though I tick the damn sample box.

    How about when they don’t send samples? I have had at least four Ulta orders this year with no samples in them. Also on black Friday there were no samples available for me at either Ulta and Nordstrom. I wish there was an option to wait for all your stuff to ship together in one box.

    First off… Yuck, Lime Crime. I love hair dye, but I personally wouldn’t touch anything she made, even if a lot of the packaging is super cute.

    Second off… American Eagle and Amazon are two of the biggest offenders that I consistently deal with that do the multiple packages for one order or a huge package for one/some small item(s). I can’t tell you how many times I’ve received an American Eagle order with 3 items in 3 separate packages. SO ANNOYING. Amazon is the main one that loves to send my tiny orders in gigantic packages, and funny enough, they send my bigger items stuffed in smaller packages. I’ve never understood how they decide these things, but I feel like they need to hire me so I can figure that all out for them, LOL!
