Blowing Bubbles With Your Micellar Water Is Just Gross Not Life Changing

A few weeks ago I watched a Tiktok that told me I’ve been using Micellar Water wrong. As with all things Tiktok a video went viral featuring a girl blowing into a cotton pad soaked with Micellar Water and creating a foam. She preludes the video with, “You don’t use micellar water by pouring it onto a cotton pad”. Her technique or as it’s being called, “the Tiktok Micellar Water hack”, is to soak your cotton pad with micellar water, place it on your mouth, and blow into the back of the unsaturated side. This causes the water to create a foam, which you apply to your face.

Yeah, but no…. If this isn’t a Vicky Pollard teachable moment I don’t know what is. I didn’t bring this up when I originally saw it, but I wanted to have a deep discussion about it or maybe I just wanted to rant. It came to my attention again because the hack is going viral yet again and I’m just sitting here babbling to myself, “Yeah but no but yeah but noooo…!”

Promise me something? Promise me you won’t do this! Bubbles are fun! Foam is fun! Hell, I’ll go so far as to say that if it isn’t creating a bunch of foam and lather it isn’t cleaning my face (which I realize isn’t true but bubbles and lather make me feel like my skin is getting squeaky anyway!). But really, you don’t want to create bubbles using this method! I just feel like you’re taking bacteria from your mouth and smearing it all over your face.

You know how I’m not a big fan of lip-to-cheek products? I mean, you know, the concept of having a stick or a liquid product that works as say a blush and a lip product seems brilliant! It’ll save room in your makeup bag, it’s multitasking, but also, it sort of grosses me out applying something to my lips and proceeding to put it on my face and vice versa. Same thing with this micellar water hack! Taking a cotton pad, blowing into it with my mouth, and following up by putting it on my face just makes me cringe.

Also, let’s discuss the fact we use micellar water because it’s liquid! You’re literally changing the formula of the product and creating a lather to apply on your face! You can just use cleansing foam or cream if you want lather.

Sorry but I’m not buying this whole micellar water hack viral moment. I’ll use it the way I always use it by simply saturating a cotton pad and wiping on my face. No bubbles for me.

What do you think of this weird hack?

Ewww. The human mouth is loaded with bacteria. Why do want that on your face? What is wrong with people? I betcha anything that this TikToker was bored, messing around with products, and accidentally discovered that the micellar water would create a foam on the cotton pad. And thought hey! This is great, must post on TikTok. And how the hell do you soak a cotton pad and then blow on the “unsaturated” side?? Cotton pads don’t work that way ffs. I’m with you Muse, this is just gross. And some poor young person with acne and bad skin will try this because they don’t know any better.

Sorry for the rant. The sheer amount of irresponsibility on social media just burns my butt. It will be the downfall of civilization as we know it.

AGREED! I just can’t. I wouldn’t do this at all! Anything to be viral I guess!?

    Huh? No.

I think of micellar water as more of a second cleanse to make sure I got everything off with my cleanser. Have I been doing it wrong by just swiping with a cotton round?

    • Isabella Muse

you are absolutely doing it right please don’t blow into the cotton pad and wipe bacteria all over your face!

Jeebus, right there with ya, Cindy… tictok is mostly weird crap. Got enough of that going on without it.

I’m not 100% sure this would work, but couldn’t you put micellar water in a foaming hand soap dispenser and have it come out as foam? I’d love to know if this would work and if anyone has tried this.
