The very popular and cult favorite Biore UV Aqua Rich SPF 50 Moisturizing Sunscreen is now available in the USA and called Biore Aqua Rich Weightless Face Moisturizer. It’s not really quite being promoted as a sunscreen but more of a moisturizer with an SPF which I found interesting. Of course, Biore hasn’t actually promoted this as of yet and I haven’t seen any marketing for it.

For a very long this was a very popular product in Japan (still is) and across beauty blogs far and wide. I remember a time it was challenging to find at retail prices and we all had to wait two weeks for it to ship from overseas. I’m surprised they are JUST NOW releasing it in the US.

There are currently two versions of the Biore Aqua Rich Weightless Face Moisturizer available at Target. One is SPF 30 and the SPF 50 and oddly both are priced at $14.99. Weird they have two versions at the same price. In Japan, they only have a SPF50 version.

The active ingredients are Avobenzone 3.0% Homosalate 7.0% Octisalate 5.0% Octocrylene 5.0%. I imagine the formula is as great as the Japanese one. I’m sure you’ve read many of my reviews on Biore’s sunscreens in the past. They are all incredibly lightweight, absorb easily, and wear well under makeup without leaving a white cast behind. I think it’s wonderful they are releasing this stateside. I wish more Kao products would make their way to the USA as the Japanese catalog is a lot bigger than the one we have here in the US.

Biore Aqua Rich Weightless Face Moisturizer is available now at Target. Let me know if you grab it!

LOL! Yeah that had me wondering too! But no, it was def promoted as a sunscreen in Asia.

I almost bought the Japanese version a year ago but found some easy to find reasonably priced US products I like. I wonder if the label change has something to do with the FDA labelling regulations. In the reviews I read when I was researching someone said it’s not really a sunblock but a moisturiser with sunscreen in it and that it was for everyday use but not for something like going to the beach. Also, I use SPF 30 for the colder months and SPF 50 for the warmer months. I’ve read other Americans do that too, I think maybe in Japan they may use SPF 50 all year around.

Looking at the Target information, this is very much NOT the same product that is offered internationally. It has different UV filters (because the ones used in Japan are not approved in the US), it isn’t water resistant, and the overall ingredient lists are very different. Frankly, this is just an entirely different and probably worse product that is leveraging the popularity/name of the better product.

Thanks for the update Greg. I had a feeling it wasn’t the same!
