The Best Drugstore Mascara for 2023

Wondering what the best drugstore mascara is? Curious what drugstore makeup brand has the best drugstore mascara of the year? Well, I’m here to be controversial and say that I do think splurging on mascara is ok. I know, I know. Don’t kill me for that! But I don’t meet a lot of drugstore mascaras that I actually like and when I do I’m always terribly surprised and delighted. Most times it’s not even the formulas that are an issue but the brushes. Remember when we went through that larger oversized brush era? I blame you, Covergirl! I just couldn’t get on board with this giant mega sized applicators. I was either poking my eye out with them or smearing gobs of mascara on my lashes. No likey!

I’m not going to say that all drugstore mascaras but in my experience I prefer splurging a bit on them. But hey, nowadays, it’s not even a splurge considering a lot of drugstore mascaras run around $14.99 or more. Ouch! My personal ride or die is Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes but I wander away from it from time to time to try new formulas. But I have to say the best drugstore mascara I tried in 2023 has actually pushed my beloved Lights, Camera, Lashes to the side!

And the best drugstore mascara for 2023 is…! Drum roll please! Maybelline The Falsies Surreal Extensions Mascara gets the award! I love this formula. It’s a little tricky to remove sometimes but it performs brilliantly. Great black pigment, super longer lashes, and fantastic volume. Doesn’t flake or smear on me at all and makes my lashes look super duper long. Which is saying something because as I got older I noticed my lashes are a lot less longer (too much lash curling I suspect) and this formula pulls them up and out adding great length! It has a simple rounded applicator that isn’t overly large that captures all my lashes easily in one swipe plus it builds very nicely without clumping.

I find it a little tricky to remove with eye makeup along. Sometimes it takes a little scrubbing to get the fibers to break down but all in all, an excellent formula and not badly priced at around $10 bucks! This was my big mascara win for 2023.

Have you tried it? Do you love it? What was your best mascara in 2023?

I haven’t tried tried this one but I will now! I agree mascara is the thing to splurge on. I feel like drugstore mascara can be really hit or miss. I’ve had a few favorites that have been discontinued.
I tried a handful of mascaras this year that were fails so I’m back to my go to – Lash Idole.

do it! It’s really good! Me too! I always splurge on mascara as I find so few drugstore ones worth it. Lash Idole is a good one but def try the Maybyelline and come back and tell me whatcha think teehee!

What shade are you using? I have found that the ones that claim to be “the blackest black” tend to be clumpy. I suppose because of extra black pigment.
    Thanks!

Very black and glad you said this because I need to buy a new one and I’d typically go with blackest black but when I purchased this it wasn’t available and got very black so will stick with that!
