Hey guys! Serious question. Am I old because I remember Oil of Olay came in a glass bottle? Last week, I somehow ended up on the retro commercial Tiktok algo and it was serving me up some great old makeup commercials! An old Oil of Olay sprung up and it looked like it was from the 70s. I don’t remember the commercial at all to be honest with you so maybe I’m not THAT old but it did trigger a memory in me of how Oil of Olay came in a glass bottle.

As I recall it was still sold in a glass bottle in the early 90s or am I wrong? Fun fact Olay Total Effects 7 in 1 Face Moisturizer was my go to when I was like 14 or 15 years old. I worked at CVS when I was a freshmen in High School and I remember always buying it when it went on sale. I can’t say I actually owned a glass bottle of Oil of Olay but I do sort of recall them being around. I also remember thinking Oil of Olay was the height of luxury skincare.

Does anyone remember how much a bottle cost? I’m over here trying to recapture a feel good beauty era. Was it like $3 bucks or something in the 70s? It’s damn near $30 now! Well, technically the fluid is around $16 or so but there are so many formulations now that the cost goes up with the ingredients so you’re looking at around $25 to $30 per jar.

I find myself missing a lot of old beauty favs when I see commercials like this! What old formulas and products do you miss? Do share them!

Ok, Too Faced we love a click pen lipgloss moment but maybe you’re jumping the shark with the price. Too Faced Lip Injection Extreme Plumping Clicks have launched for Spring 2025 in eight shade selections and this strawberry-scented formula promises gloss, plumped up lips in a click. The creamy, melty formula says it provides sheer-to-medium coverage, plumping, eight hours of hydration, shine, and a nourishing formula. Wait, can we backtrack a sec did you say sheer? For $28 bucks? Ouchie! Maracuja Juicy Lip Plumps from Tarte are $26 but they are bigger at 0.095 oz versus your 0.05 oz size Too Faced. I’m not so sure about that near $30 price tag if I’m getting no pigment…!

Also, let’s not forget everyone is duper Majacuja Juicy Lip’s formula lately as we have a slew of budget friendly options like E.L.F. Pout Clout Lip Plumping Pen, Colourpop So Juicy Plumping Gloss Balm, and NYX Fat Oil Slick Click Lip Oil Stick. The completion is fierce and you’re a little late to the party and going off and charging us near $30 bucks. This formula better be amazing!

I can’t lie I want to try these but I’m a little iffy on spending that much on Too Faced anything. I feel products like this should fall between $18-$22 for a mid-range brand. $28 really feels like it’s heading into an entirely new tax bracket. I may regret saying that after trying them I’m not completely sold on that price just yet. Also, I’m surprised to see such a small range of shades! But I guess not too surprised considering so many brands have really scaled back when introducing a new product to their collection. I guess they sort of test the waters before they release a bigger shade range. I never thought I’d say, “This isn’t enough shades!” as at one point shade ranges could be overwhelming but yeah, I feel like the shade range could use a few more. Ironically, these aren’t even in stock yet at sephora.com but the raving reviews are pouring in. Sigh. Crazy how the system works isn’t it?

Since I’m in a peppermint mood today I thought I’d remind everyone that Hempz Peppermint Vanilla Swirl is back for Holiday 2024. I have two big bottles of this stuff. One sits on my desk and I use it on my hands and the other I have in my bath and body closet and I use it in my Holiday Shower routine. If you’re lucky sometimes you can score it at TJ Maxx but I got mine from Target.

I know everyone is crazed about Bath and Body Works Peppermint Twist around this time of the year but I sort of prefer Hempz’s scent for some reason. This is a mix of crushed peppermint, sugar, and vanilla. Pretty similar to Bath and Body Works in terms of notes but the peppermint smells a bit more realistic in this lotion and it has this super cool, tingling feeling on skin that feels amazing after a hot shower! The lotion is also, super lightweight, absorbs easily, and not sticky or tacky. Even though it’s a lighter cream it still manages to hydrate really well and trust me I’m like an alligator now that the cold weather is here and this stuff does the trick keeping me super smooth.

I’m on my seasonal peppermint kick at the moment so this stuff is awesome. Hempz Peppermint Vanilla Swirl is available now. Do you love the way this one smells?

Sadly, they don’t have the rom&nd Bare Water Cushion which is a fav of mine but they do have their awesome Better Than Palette. I LOVE this palette.
