Mmmm hate to disappoint you but the Muse is going cheap again, can’t resist the charm of cool products that cost me under $3 bucks and are actually pretty decent. N.Y.C. New York City Color Cosmetics has two new lipsticks out for Summer that are $2.49 each at your local drugstore. I highly suggest snagging these as they are ideal for funky, fresh Summer Lips!
Check ’em after the jump!
These two lippies are part of a very tiny Summer Collection from N.Y.C. Color. Honestly, from the lot of items I thought these were the best. I’m not normally one for indulging in overly cheap cosmetics you know my feelings already about that sort of thing but these were shouting at me from the display as the colors are truly lovely for Summer especially if you like a sizzling lip look for the warmer weather.
I think it’s four shade’s altogether in the release but I purchased only two that I thought stood out. The lipsticks are entitled Special FX Lipstick but I’m unsure if that’s part of the regular line from N.Y.C. or just something newly introduced since I’m not all that familiar with the regular catalog of items.
The two shades I got were Hot Tamale and Sun Kissed. Hot Tamale is my favorite of the two and is a crisp, burned red shot through with a heavy dose of orange. Sun Kissed is metallic burnt orange. The finishes of each are metallic but can easily be toned down by topping with gloss plus it appears after two or three uses the metallic overcoat on the lipsticks wears done so the finish is sheer. The lipsticks are richly pigmented which was pretty interesting consider their cheap price tag. They apply smoothly and evenly leaving behind nice color pay off. I don’t think there is anything particularly special about the lipstick formula but it’s decent enough. I did find it slightly drying on it’s own minus gloss so I do recommend a touch of gloss as it not only livens the shades up further but keeps color moist on your lips.
If you’re not up for spending $15-$20 on a brand new lipstick for hot Summer lips I highly suggest nabbing these two shades from N.Y.C. Color. The inexpensive price tag, fantastic pigmentation, and HOT Summer shades are pleasing this Muse!
Total Muse Approval for purchase!

Whether you love her or you hate her it’s unquestionable that Madonna is a style icon. From her flair for fashion, her eye for accessories, and of course, most important for the Muse, her minimal yet dramatic makeup she reigns in the realm of chic and classy.
Artistic Director Gina Brooke created Madonna’s most recent look for her Sticky & Sweet 2009 Summer Tour and you’ll be quite delighted to know how easy it is to do for yourself!
Click it for the details!
Madonna’s look was inspired by her hit song “Ray of Light”, Brooke, who has been working with Madonna since 2002, transforms Madonna’s eyes by applying a mix of crushed, small flawless diamonds and white eye shadow to her lids. The results is a bright and sparkling glow!
Brooke uses Shu Uemura Press Eye Shadow in ME White 905 to provide a soft, light reflecting, diamond-like effect. Brooke uses actual diamonds to surround Madonna’s eyes of course we can’t all afford to snag ourselves some diamonds. To duplicate the effect try using bindis which you can find in any number of small Indian bridal shops or online at www.bindishop.com
Brooke feels that any woman of any age can wear a shimmery, ethereal shade like ME White 906 from Shu. “A little sheen helps enhance the eyes and instantly gives a younger appearance. Modonna is always up for trying new things and I think all women should feel comfortable experimenting and enhancing their beauty….” states Brooke.
In 2004, Brooke collaborated with Shu Uemura to create a pair of custom made mink lashes for Madonna. In 2006, she took the idea to a revolutionary level by creating a pair of diamond and minkencrusted lashes for Madonna. After overwhelming interest from consumers, the Shu Uemura lashes were created and sold exclusively at Neiman Marcus for $10,000 a pair.
Sparkling white shadow and diamonds always make me think of the crisp frozen Winter, Ice Queens, and Christmas. I love this look as the weather grows colder but sadly the Muse is fresh out of 10 g’s for the lashes but she doesn’t mind indulging in Shu Uemura ME White 905 and a pack of $1.50 bindi brow stickers to duplicate the look and you can too!
What do you think of Madonna’s sparkling diamond look?

A few months ago I introduced you to a small Swedish drugstore brand by the name of Viva La Diva.
Sadly the brand is virtually unknown in the US, nor available our side of the shore. Golly why can’t we have cute cosmetics like this stateside? No fairs!
Moral of the story is Viva la Diva came out with a rather cute collection of goodies for the Summer one of which was a very sweet little eye palette with plenty of shimmering shades of pigmented greens, blues, sandy golds and browns. Rather an ideal palette for Summer and cheap as day old chips.
Jump ahead for a peep at it!
This is my first venture with Viva La Diva and probably won’t be my last after experiencing the brand for myself. For it’s inexpensive price tag I’m quite delighted with the quality of the shadow palette.
The Viva La Diva Tropical Temptation Eye Shadow Palette is a slim line compact which contains 12 shades of shimmering shadow. The shadows aren’t huge and you’ll probably hit pan fairly quickly but they are richly pigmented so a little does go a fairly long way.
The shades range in color from deep ocean blues, aquas, and teals, watery greens, and shades of sandy golds and browns. It’s a pretty versatile palette that allows for a warm sunny look or a cooler, bolder Summer look. Seeing as it has 12 shades to choose from you can mix and match for any number of various looks. I only did a few swatches below as I was feeling greedy with the palette hehe!
Each shade is nicely pigmented with a shimmery finish however fall out is a problem during application and this could be annoying to some. The shadows are loosely packed into the pans so you’ll get a good deal of kick up when your brush hits the shadow. I also noticed shades don’t blend particularly well together as they end up becoming one color. The shades all apply smooth and blend easily onto the eye but two or more shades creates a bit of a mess. Aside from these minor rants I absolutely adore the palette.
With it’s cute size, inexpensive price tag, and variety of color I’m quite pleased with my first purchase from Viva La Diva and look forward to trying out future items from the brand.
Sadly, I have no recommendations where to purchase these goodies from however I do suggest checking makeup forums or MUA to see if someone in Sweden would be willing to CP a palette or two. Worthy of a hunt down in my humblest. Great little palette!
The two looks created below were created using one shade each from the palette one with a light neon green and the other a white gold.
Anyone tried the line before or any fans of it?
