Bare Minerals Extreme Glimmers Review and Swatches
If you love MAC Solar Bits, you’ll adore the Bare Minerals Extreme Glimmers for Holiday 2009.
Take a jump for the review and swatches.
Let’s get down to the dirt. The fact of the matter is these are utter rubbish to work. Big ole’ hot mess. But that doesn’t stop me from enjoying them anyway.
Secondly, some will say, “well I can get those cheaper via mineral etailers…” Yes, you can but I do think BE shadows, glimmers, etc…aren’t really comparable to etailers in many ways one being packaging and the likes.
Thirdly, you get a little for alot. BE has adapted small sizes in many of its kits…shrug…dunno why but it was bound to happen right? It’s a small amount of product however it’s forgivable because it’s so pigmented and so shimmery you’re only going to need a little to get the look you desire.
Now that the bad is out of the way here’s the good.
This is the second Bare Minerals Extreme Glimmer Kits that was introduced. The prior could be considered more festive as it had icy shades of purple, white, etc…where as this is a more warm version. You’ll get three extreme glimmers, one tiny Bare Escentuals Primer, and a mini brush for application.
Extreme Glimmers are very similar to the formula of MAC Solar Bits. They are a textured type of mineral pigment that look like tiny flakes. To work with them you have to be a rocket scientist…no seriously it’s hard. They don’t blend very well because you have to press on them which causes them to “burst” which in turn creates a fine layer of pigment you can press onto your lid. Yes, press should be the chosen application method because no way are you going to swipe around with these. If you don’t like glitter, if you don’t like sparkle, if you aren’t wanting to look all kinds of crazy disco ball sparkly, don’t buy these. The finish, as said in the title of the product, is extreme as in extremely sparkly.
I find them difficult to work with but overall the results are very pretty. One thing you do have to keep in mind is you’ll be limited to working with one shade of shadow, no more, unless you desire a mess. This isn’t the type of product you can blend up with other shades. In my experience it’s pick a shade and stick with it for the entire eye look.
I like this kit much more than the prior as the shades are warmer and richer. You get Pyrite which is a buttery yellow gold, Malachite which is a greenish brown, and Perlite which is a lighter tan brown.
Overall, I like them because they are festive plus I’ve always been straight up in your face about how much I love sparkly, glittery, shimmery bits and bobs so they appeal in that aspect. If you do alot of parties during the Holidays or you have tons of evenings out with the boyfriend these are a great little deal for adding a touch of shimmer to lids.
Loves it!
