L’Oreal Stars Never Fail Infalliable Lipcolour Compact Collection Review and Swatches
So off the topic of makeup but have you tried Wonka Exceptionals Fruit Marvels. OMG Loves! I nicked a tin from my friend’s purse about two weeks ago and I’ve ever after been a Fruit Marvels addict. It’s fruity crack people! First off, seriously, someone should send a memo to Willy Wonka that the website stinks. After inhaling my first tin of these bad boys I proceeded to WANT more and my search around drugstores was uneventful, I came back empty handed, no delicious candy crack to be had. So like a good techy geek I logged on to the Wonka site (www.wonka.com) and they make no mention of these around (granted, I didn’t register but still!? WTH? Where’s the deets on this candy crack!?). They mention the Wonka Exceptionals Chocolates but nada about Fruit Marvels.
Horror.
So far, haven’t had much lucky scoring anymore. Sad, irritated little pout but I hear they might be available in other flavors, that makes me want to put a little extra effort into my search.
Oh sorry you wanted deets what they taste like right? I got the Pomegranate ones and they are basically a hard shelled candy, kinda like a sucker of some sort, that are filled with a jelly, liquid-y center kinda Turkish Delight-like. Turkish Delight is one of my fav sweets of all times, buy me some and I’m yours, so this could be why Fruit Marvels appealed so much to me as they have the same sort of concept going on, sugary coated deliciousness.
Anyway, ’nuff ’bout candy and the likes. Let’s get on with the makeup eh?
L’Oreal has introduced the Stars Never Fail Lipcolour Compact Collection for Fall 2010 which includes personally selected shades from Beyonce, Andie MacDowell, Diane Keaton, Eva Langoria Parker, Kate del Castillo, and Linda Evangelista. L’Oreal wanted to go with a diverse group of women that represented various age groups, styles, and ethnicities. I think it’s safe to say the concept of going with such a wide range of various women is really a great idea considering makeup junkies come in sorts of shapes, sizes, ages, and colors, don’t we?
Jump ahead!
A range of six shades of L’Oreal Never Fail Lipcolours that have a wear of 16 hours that were personally selected shades Bejonce, Andie MacDowell, Diane Keaton, Eva Langoria Parker, Kate del Castillo, and Linda Evangelista.
So 16 Hours of wear….such a crazy promise right? I’ve personally never tried L’Oreal Never Fail Lipcolour before and was instantly skeptical that ANY lip product could wear for 16 hours particularly one that’s purchased at your local drugstore.
Holy cow. Prove me wrong. This stuff lasts way beyond 16 hours. You’ll need some sort of oil based cleanser or eye and lip makeup remover to get this off. It’s not going ANYWHERE. Eat with it, drink, be merry, go outside in the humidity, hell it’ll suffer through an ice storm. It’ll last ALL day until you remove it. Wow.
So how’s it work…
Here’s the deets.
It comes in a rather fun package for those of us that are geeky about packaging. It features two tubes enclosed in one tiny case. You can slide the tubes up and out to use and store them back when you’re done for easy travel. The first tube features the L’Oreal Infalliable Lip Color which has a sponge tip applicator for applicator. The formula is CRAZY pigmented so some of the shades could prove difficult to pull off. It applies like a gloss but is without a doubt a lip color. Think creamy, a bit on the liquid-y side, with a matte dry down. This is where things get tricky…..you have to apply the color first and wait at least two minutes for it to set prior to using the second tube which is a setting balm. As the product dries down it dries to a matte finish and feels a tad tight around the lip area. Applying the balm on top to set will also get a shiny finish if you aren’t a matte type of girl.
Now you’re done.
It’ll wear ALL day. The only thing you might want to touch up on is the balm as it’ll give a nice shiny finish that keeps the color looking fresh. Aside from that you won’t need to apply color contentiously throughout the day!
I tried three of the six shades released. From my experience the color range leans towards shade that they believe ladies would reach for daily such as reds, plums, and natural nude shades.
Diane’s Tuberose is a brown rosy shade, Beyonce’s Red is a SUPER true shade of red, and Kate’s Plum is a brownish plum.
The long wear is amazing but it comes with a few downfalls.
First off, I do believe it’s essential you take time out to retouch with the balm as the lip color does NOT look fresh without it and in some cases looks like you’ve taken some paint and painted your lips with it. Not pretty. The balm adds a nice hydrating touch and a better finish to the product on a whole. That being said, I also feel the formula is a tad drying. It applies wet and creamy however it dries down to a very matte finish which isn’t too pretty on already dry lips or even older ones.
The formula is a tad on the difficult side to work with and you may need to take up a lip liner since color tends to apply a tad unevenly around the lip area, migrating all over your upper lip area, etc…..again, not pretty.
I think it has the potential to creep into fine lines as the product is very heavy and drying on.
The colors all appear terribly unnatural and slightly garish particularly Beyonce’s which is crazy bright, clown red. Hell, Beyonce can work it like no one’s biz but unfortunately most women cannot.
Finally, for some reason, I felt the product didn’t sit well on my lips. It felt a tad unnatural to me and I knew I was wearing lipstick…I like a no lipstick kinda feel ya know?
- Anyone who wants bulletproof, going no where fast, long wearing lip color.
- Possible fans of the celebs who personally selected these shades and inspired them.
- Drier lips, older, mature lips may wish to avoid as color might migrate and bleed during application.
- Anyone who wants an easy to apply lip color (this takes a bit of work to apply correctly).
- Anyone who simply can’t waste time waiting for their lip color to dry down (you need about two to three minutes for color to set prior to applying the balm).
- Anyone looking for shades that work well (I felt the shades were a tad bold and outrageous, not super wearable).
Count me impressed with the awesome wear time. The product is a superstar at wearing ALL day and never moving until YOU take it off at the end of the day. As great as the wear time is, I did think the formula and shades needed a bit of work in order for me to fully love the product. This might appeal to those who can pull off more bolder shades or just want a lip color that wears all day with little to no touch up or maintenance. It’s a tad ironic that many of the shades should work for us all but end up being quite outrageous due to the pigmentation of the product.
