L’Oreal Stars Never Fail Infalliable Lipcolour Compact Collection Review and Swatches

So off the topic of makeup but have you tried Wonka Exceptionals Fruit Marvels. OMG Loves! I nicked a tin from my friend’s purse about two weeks ago and I’ve ever after been a Fruit Marvels addict. It’s fruity crack people! First off, seriously, someone should send a memo to Willy Wonka that the website stinks. After inhaling my first tin of these bad boys I proceeded to WANT more and my search around drugstores was uneventful, I came back empty handed, no delicious candy crack to be had. So like a good techy geek I logged on to the Wonka site (www.wonka.com) and they make no mention of these around (granted, I didn’t register but still!? WTH? Where’s the deets on this candy crack!?). They mention the Wonka Exceptionals Chocolates but nada about Fruit Marvels.

Horror.

So far, haven’t had much lucky scoring anymore. Sad, irritated little pout but I hear they might be available in other flavors, that makes me want to put a little extra effort into my search.

Oh sorry you wanted deets what they taste like right? I got the Pomegranate ones and they are basically a hard shelled candy, kinda like a sucker of some sort, that are filled with a jelly, liquid-y center kinda Turkish Delight-like. Turkish Delight is one of my fav sweets of all times, buy me some and I’m yours, so this could be why Fruit Marvels appealed so much to me as they have the same sort of concept going on, sugary coated deliciousness.

Anyway, ’nuff ’bout candy and the likes. Let’s get on with the makeup eh?

L’Oreal has introduced the Stars Never Fail Lipcolour Compact Collection for Fall 2010 which includes personally selected shades from Beyonce, Andie MacDowell, Diane Keaton, Eva Langoria Parker, Kate del Castillo, and Linda Evangelista. L’Oreal wanted to go with a diverse group of women that represented various age groups, styles, and ethnicities. I think it’s safe to say the concept of going with such a wide range of various women is really a great idea considering makeup junkies come in sorts of shapes, sizes, ages, and colors, don’t we?

Jump ahead!

A range of six shades of L’Oreal Never Fail Lipcolours that have a wear of 16 hours that were personally selected shades Bejonce, Andie MacDowell, Diane Keaton, Eva Langoria Parker, Kate del Castillo, and Linda Evangelista.

So 16 Hours of wear….such a crazy promise right? I’ve personally never tried L’Oreal Never Fail Lipcolour before and was instantly skeptical that ANY lip product could wear for 16 hours particularly one that’s purchased at your local drugstore.

Holy cow. Prove me wrong. This stuff lasts way beyond 16 hours. You’ll need some sort of oil based cleanser or eye and lip makeup remover to get this off. It’s not going ANYWHERE. Eat with it, drink, be merry, go outside in the humidity, hell it’ll suffer through an ice storm. It’ll last ALL day until you remove it. Wow.

So how’s it work…

Here’s the deets.

It comes in a rather fun package for those of us that are geeky about packaging. It features two tubes enclosed in one tiny case. You can slide the tubes up and out to use and store them back when you’re done for easy travel. The first tube features the L’Oreal Infalliable Lip Color which has a sponge tip applicator for applicator. The formula is CRAZY pigmented so some of the shades could prove difficult to pull off. It applies like a gloss but is without a doubt a lip color. Think creamy, a bit on the liquid-y side, with a matte dry down. This is where things get tricky…..you have to apply the color first and wait at least two minutes for it to set prior to using the second tube which is a setting balm. As the product dries down it dries to a matte finish and feels a tad tight around the lip area. Applying the balm on top to set will also get a shiny finish if you aren’t a matte type of girl.

Now you’re done.

It’ll wear ALL day. The only thing you might want to touch up on is the balm as it’ll give a nice shiny finish that keeps the color looking fresh. Aside from that you won’t need to apply color contentiously throughout the day!

I tried three of the six shades released. From my experience the color range leans towards shade that they believe ladies would reach for daily such as reds, plums, and natural nude shades.

Diane’s Tuberose is a brown rosy shade, Beyonce’s Red is a SUPER true shade of red, and Kate’s Plum is a brownish plum.

The long wear is amazing but it comes with a few downfalls.

First off, I do believe it’s essential you take time out to retouch with the balm as the lip color does NOT look fresh without it and in some cases looks like you’ve taken some paint and painted your lips with it. Not pretty. The balm adds a nice hydrating touch and a better finish to the product on a whole. That being said, I also feel the formula is a tad drying. It applies wet and creamy however it dries down to a very matte finish which isn’t too pretty on already dry lips or even older ones.

The formula is a tad on the difficult side to work with and you may need to take up a lip liner since color tends to apply a tad unevenly around the lip area, migrating all over your upper lip area, etc…..again, not pretty.

I think it has the potential to creep into fine lines as the product is very heavy and drying on.

The colors all appear terribly unnatural and slightly garish particularly Beyonce’s which is crazy bright, clown red. Hell, Beyonce can work it like no one’s biz but unfortunately most women cannot.

Finally, for some reason, I felt the product didn’t sit well on my lips. It felt a tad unnatural to me and I knew I was wearing lipstick…I like a no lipstick kinda feel ya know?

  • Anyone who wants bulletproof, going no where fast, long wearing lip color.
  • Possible fans of the celebs who personally selected these shades and inspired them.

  • Drier lips, older, mature lips may wish to avoid as color might migrate and bleed during application.
  • Anyone who wants an easy to apply lip color (this takes a bit of work to apply correctly).
  • Anyone who simply can’t waste time waiting for their lip color to dry down (you need about two to three minutes for color to set prior to applying the balm).
  • Anyone looking for shades that work well (I felt the shades were a tad bold and outrageous, not super wearable).

Count me impressed with the awesome wear time. The product is a superstar at wearing ALL day and never moving until YOU take it off at the end of the day. As great as the wear time is, I did think the formula and shades needed a bit of work in order for me to fully love the product. This might appeal to those who can pull off more bolder shades or just want a lip color that wears all day with little to no touch up or maintenance. It’s a tad ironic that many of the shades should work for us all but end up being quite outrageous due to the pigmentation of the product.

Anyone ever try L’Oreal Infalliable Lipcolour?

How did YOU like it?

Does it sound like something you’d like to try?

uhh beyonce’s shade is scary, although pretty on her in the website photo which i just snooped, and the rest are quite blahh. gotta give it credit for the crazy long wearing factor but i won’t be dashing out to buy this.. i’ll be dashing out for a turkish delight fix instead!! i love the stuff and this post gave me a wicked craving! i haven’t seen those wonka candies (mind you this is Canada i live in and we tend to see things last) but good luck in your search!

    • the Muse

shudders! yes jenna lol! she looks fab in it but I can’t pull that off. aw hell love me some TD isn’t it delicious!? I love the rose flavor 😀 I hope Canada gets the wonka fruit marvels one day soon, they are de-licious!

  • Nunu

but…but if you have to touch up on the balm…what difference is it compared to just touching up your lippy? The whole point of long lasting lip colour is that you can apply once in the morning then forget about it for the rest of the day no?
Once again, L’Oreal leaves us Asian skin tone folk out of the loop le sigh.

    • the Muse

nunu most of the shades don’t work for me and I’m not Asian LOL so guess I’m out of the loop too right? I suggested to touch up with the balm but there isn’t any reason to. I just think it would look fresher with the balm in place but if you’re a matte lover than you can easily forgo touching up with the balm after the lippie is in place.

      🙂

  • MusicLover

ive seen the candy around where i live everyday. Its at like every walmart target or walgreens.

and those colors just don’t look like anything i would want to wear

    • the Muse

haven’t seen ’em around here yet music le sigh but gonna check target 😀

  • Kim

I tried this out a little over a month ago, & truthfully I HATED it. I tried it a couple of times during the week just to give it a fair shot. It made my lips very dry, & peeling for days afterword.
Now for the color, it was very strange looking on. To make matters worse it peeled & flaked off around the edges of my lips but stayed like Super Glue in the center.
I wound up passing it on to a friend who used it. For me personally I would NEVER try this product again in any color.

    • the Muse

kim do you normally have dry lips? I think it would be lethal on anyone with dry lips. I agree on color, the colors I tried weren’t flattering at all. the promo images look amazing but I honestly don’t look fab in them. weird about the color peeling away as that prob I didn’t have. Color stayed true and wore long, like bulletproof lipstick 🙂

      • Kim

No actually my lips are pretty normal, but these just completely sucked all the moisture out em’ like crazy. The peeling was just plain annoying, it got all over my drink, & I think maybe that was my first sign that this product was a no – go for me. Oh well, maybe others will have better luck with it than me.

  • LorraineER

This is one of those things that I wish worked but I agree with everything you said. So far none of the drug-store long-wear lipsticks work for me. They either apply well, look nice and don’t dry my lips OR they last all day.

    • the Muse

hey lorraine. Concept is fabulous but the formula needs a bit of work as the shades are a tad on the unwearable side for me. Promo images are GORG but I just can’t work the colors so well. The long wear is incredible, but the formula, not so much 😛

  • dina

just FYI saw those wonka fruit marvels @ target @ the registers, saw them in clementine i think 🙂

      • dina

no the one in mt. kisco, unsure about w.p. might be floating around there. the grape looks yum, i’ll be on the lookout now 🙂

        • the Muse

damn would have loved to make it there before I leave for vegas tonight 😛 they’d make a yummie treat to take with me 😀 def try, I think they are yums!

          • dina

vegas?! fabuloso!!! have a drink or 7 for me 😛 great time & safe travels dear muse! i’ll keep my eye out for these for ya 🙂

          • the Muse

LOL will do D 😀 thanks hun! I’m heading to defcon. It’s only a few days but it’s always a blast to attend! *hugs* did you check out Dare to Wear? I was looking at Christine’s post and I gotta say nothing shouts at me yet?!

          • the Muse

btw D, off topic, but I know you love a good sale like me, Perfumania has a silly sale going on at the moment with most fragrances 20% off and some buy 1, get 1 free including Annick Goutal! The buy 1, get 1 is in stores but the 20% off is go in and around the website 😀

  • Appu

Aren’t these like the Maybelline super stay lip colors? I never liked the formula of maybelline so much…i don’t think i ll like these either 🙂

    • the Muse

i dunno appu to be honest I’m not familiar with maybelline’s version 😀

  • kiwikiwidragon

I am mourning the death of the original longwear lip color, that felt more like lipstick, I think it was colorstay and then maybeline had a version as well. twist up slim tubes, if i remember correctly, i miss those.

  • courtney

hahaha- wow those shades are crazy! Was the tuberose bright? it looks pretty?

ps- to get it off try Maybelline’s Superaway™ Lipcolor Remover
It works soooo well I love it, and I know you would tooo!!!

    • the Muse

hey courtney tuberose is a nice shade but it doesn’t sit so well on my lips and looks a tad like paint as in paint you do walls with hehe 😀 I wish the colors were a bit more softer, it would make them more wearable for me. oh thanks! interesting 😀

  • Melissa

Hi – your beloved Wonka candy has been seen in 3 (or maybe it was 2) flavors at the checkout in my Target. If you get desperate, let me know and I’ll ship em to you.

    • the Muse

aw thanks Melissa appreciate it BIG time. Haven’t seen ’em at Target but than again it’s been a few since I’ve been 😀

  • Lauren

The colors look gorgeous, I would have loved to see what they look like when worn though!

  • dina

thank you, i will check it out 🙂 def love a sale!!!! DTW – i love the bright colors even though they are not the most wearable so i will likely gaze & drool. i called nordstrom yesterday & they are pre-ordering there so hoping to ck them out tonight or over the wkend 😀

    • the Muse

my pleasure d! I thought it was a fab sale some of the scents were crap like Fancy jessica simpson whatever her name the hell is lol but some were good such as Valentino Rock n Rose…buy 1, get 1, for that scent is damn great. They all look rather matte…? or maybe I wasn’t paying attention? that’s why I didn’t go to gaga 😀

  • Anna

Wonka also makes gummi-like ones.I tried the grapefruit flavor. They don’t have a hard outer shell. Their a small square of sugar coated fruit flavored yumminess. I’ve seen those in orange, goji, grape and grapefruit flavor. The ones your talking about with the hard outer shell, I’ve only seen in pomegranite. Most of these items are in the candy isle at Walmart here in California. Good luck with your hunt.

    • the Muse

anna never seen the gummi ones that sound nommy! 😀 Must be on the look out. Thank you!

  • Stavroula Plag

I can’t stand products that make my lips dry and flaky! :/ It’s such a shame, because you almost got me with the duration part! 🙂 Nice review! 🙂
