Hello Kitty Head of the Class Make Up Palette Review & Swatches
Lend me your ear, I’m going to rave and I’m going to rant the new Hello Kitty Head of the Class Make Up Palette. Hopefully someone else tried or purchased it so we can share experiences.
Sephora has done a GREAT job of reformulating these palettes but there are still a few quirks to iron out.
Here’s my thoughts!
Outside of Zombie Hello Kitty, Geek Hello Kitty is one of my favorite renditions of my favorite little kitty.
For Fall 2012, Sephora has introduced a Hello Kitty Head of the Class Collection which includes some geeky, nerdy good fun with Hello Kitty.
The star of the show is the Hello Kitty Head of the Class Make Up Palette ($36) available in two shade selections. This palette is shaped like Hello Kitty’s head and sports charming geeky glasses with a hounds-tooth and plaid print. Inside you’ll find a mirror and four shades of shadow on the upper tray of the compact. On the lower tray you’ll find a gorgeous blush.
I choose the Red and Pink Palette which is the warmer palette. Unfortunately the shades of shadow and blush are unnamed but you get a bright coral blush with hints of orange and shadows in a creamy beige, a blushing peachy pink, a chocolate, and an emerald. I thought the shades a tiny mismatched and wasn’t sure exactly how to incorporate them all into a single look. Below I used the emerald shade on my lid and the chocolate brown to accent my outer v a bit.
All the shades of shadow are matte finish with the emerald being the exception. Now the issue with past palettes from the Hello Kitty line for me has always been the very frosty finish of the shades. These shadows are absolutely gorgeous formula wise. The mattes have beautiful pigmentation in a soft, easy to blend formula. Like wise for the emerald shade which has a soft, velvety formula and excellent color pay off. My issue with the shadows is one of two problems…they do have a good deal of fall out especially the emerald shade. And I noticed as I apply and blend out the color sheers out considerably so I end up having to build the color back up again since it seems to have a knack for slipping away. The wear time is iffy if you aren’t paying attention to your prep work. Be sure to prime well prior to use as they will fade away quite easily. Overall, Sephora has improved the formula considerably in my opinion but it still needs a little work.
As much as I love a good peachy blush this shade was a little difficult to blend out without looking too orange on my cheeks. It has a interesting shimmery imprint but this is an over spray however, under this the blush does have a golden sheen which can translate sparkly on cheeks so just blend well after application.
Overall, what can I say? This is adorable and I love it. I’m glad I purchased it. There’s a little effort for application but the quality has improved drastically on this palettes which I’m quite happy about. They still need to iron out a few quirks and I think reducing the price to a more affordable $24-$26 price range would make them even more appealing. Quite cute yes but still not the best makeup palette in the world but good job improving Sephora, me likey.
