Tarte Rainforest After Dark Eye & Cheek Palette6

The Tarte Rainforest After Dark Eye & Cheek Palette ($38) is a new, limited edition all in one eye and cheek palette that launched with the Tarte Fall 2014 Collection recently.

The Tarte Rainforest After Dark Eye & Cheek Palette was inspired by the sultry orchid hues of the rainforest at dusk and brings together beautiful shades of purple that are quite reminiscent of the stunning Tarte Be MATTEnificent Amazonian Colored Clay Matte Eye & Cheek Palette!

Tarte Rainforest After Dark Eye & Cheek Palette comes housed in a CD sized compact much like what we saw in the Aqualillies for Tarte Amazonian Clay Waterproof Eye And Cheek Palette. They have a rather cool snake with a purple jewel bedecking the front of the compact.

Inside you’ll find six eyeshadows, one bronzer, one blush and one highlighter along with a generously sized mirror. Tarte claims the palette is powered by colored clay which color corrects with rose clay soothing sensitive skin around the eye, vanilla clay helping to absorb oil and keep pigment in place, and gold clay to add balance and moisture.

Eyeshadows:

  • Bare to Explore
  • Make a Mauve
  • Plum Away With Me
  • Up to No Gold
  • Tan-gled Up in you
  • Down Turn a-Brown

Face Powders:

  • Champagne Higlighter
  • Park Ave Princess Bronzer
  • Unleashed Blush

We’re seeing an awful lot of purple for Fall aren’t we? MAC Moody Blooms has a good deal of gorgeous purples and the recently released Bare Minerals The Affair To Remember 8.0 Palette also includes a good deal of orchid/lavender-y hues!

For me the Tarte Rainforest After Dark Eye & Cheek Palette takes everything I loved about the Tarte Be MATTEnificent Amazonian Colored Clay Matte Eye & Cheek Palette and amplified it. This is just a more intense, richer, sultrier, less safe version of the Be MATTEnificent Palette for me. Speaking of which the Tarte Unleashed Blush in this palette quite reminds me of Tarte Elevated Blush which can be found in the MATTEnificent Palette. But no worries they are different shades. Unleashed is a very densely packed blush so don’t expect the pigmentation you get with the regular Amazonian Blushes! It swatches rather poorly and although it looks like a dusky plum it actually applies on my skin as more of a lighter peach. Now although dense it does blend and apply well but I really felt like I had to swirl and swirl and swirl my brush to get at it! You might need to scrap it, which I haven’t done for fear of ruining the palette, as it might be silkier underneath the “harder shell”.

Tarte Elevated Blush vs Tarte Unleashed Blush

Aside from the blush everything else in the palette was excellent. The shadows all have excellent pigment and range in finish from matte to satin. The mattes are silky with an easy to apply formula and the satins have a creamy, velvety texture with the most pigment of the two finishes. I thought Plum Away With Me really stood out here as it is a beautiful dark, rich plum! If you like purples you’re bound to adore the color.

The other two products in the palette are a Champagne highlighter and Park Ave Princess bronzer. Park Ave Princess Bronzer has always had a silky, matte formula that blends easily and wears well on face and cheeks! The Champagne Highlighter has a velvety texture with shimmer. This one does have to be blended well to avoid it clinging to drier areas if you have them. It adds a nice candlelit finish to skin when buffed out well!

The Tarte Rainforest After Dark Eye & Cheek Palette is likely going to make plenty of friends along the way this Fall. It’s an especially gorgeous palette for evening looks. The shadows have a very rich look with a beautiful texture. Tarte even includes a get the look card with instructions for creating two different looks using the palette! I have a feeling purple will be right on trend for Fall and this palette fits right in for beautiful, warmer looks this season that are right on trend!

It’s available now at Sephora.com, Ulta.com, and tarte.com and launches shortly in stores!

Oh what a lovely review, swatches look really pretty, I’ve ordered it now can’t wait for it to arrive!

  • Kate

Oh no, I was hoping this was terrible so I didn’t have to buy it! D: the colors are just gorgeous. and I am a real sucker for the packaging.

    • Mairi

LOL, my thoughts exactly. These Tarte palettes are always too gorgeous.

Muse, would you say the colors are all more warmer toned? I have cool/olive undertones and am trying to decide if I can pull this one off. It’s so beautiful…

      • Isabella Muse

I think it’s a mix of warmer and cooler mairi in my opinion! 🙂

  • Natasha

Wasn’t sure when I first saw that it came out but now that you’ve swatched it…YEAH, I GOTTA HAVE THIS ONE!!

  • Missy

Dangit! I was telling myself I didn’t need this, til I saw your swatches!! LOL 😀

  • Jess

YESSS!!!! I was just wondering if Tarte was ever going to release another palette like this. I have both the Aqualillies and Coral Crush palette and I love them both. They really are great all-in-one palettes. I’m all about budgeting and hate paying full price for makeup but I’ll gladly shell out the cash for this baby.

  • fancie

Very pretty! I wish the blush was a little darker but I still love the design and colors

  • Dani

I love these round palettes that they do! And this one is no exception! I will own one one day. For me, the packaging is just as beautiful as the makeup. Oh and I’m loving all the purples for fall!!

  • Michelle

Perfection. Those shadows are so lovely it almost makes me wish I had four eyes to put them on!

  • Exile

Wow, I absolutely love the eyeshadow colors and the highlighter is very pretty. I’m sure the blush is workable. I’m a huge Tarte fan and have been eyeballing it wondering if I should pick it up once it was released. Thanks for the review. I think I have been won over. 🙂

  • Sae

My oh my. I feel like that Up to No Gold just seals the deal for me! I feel like this is going to be so great for the holidays because of that gold! Palette is perfect<3

  • Lisa

I just got this the other day and I love it! I actually like the fact that it is a little more difficult to pick up the blush. It makes it easier to build up color, sometimes i find the other amazonian blushes are a bit garish because it is so easy to pick up a lot.

  • majick

I already have a million eyeshadows/blush etc. But I’m a real sucker for the snake on the package and the colors in this palette look beautiful, not to mention wearable. I could be in trouble lol.

  • Trish

This case is just fabulous and I have always loved dusty purples and gold….must get one.

  • Pam

I LOVE this palette! I skipped the MATTEnificent palette because I prefer a mix of mattes and satins, but I’m really bummed that the blush doesn’t look like Elevated. I can’t believe how peach and patchy it swatches. A “dusky plum” blush goes much better with this palette than peach. I like to use peach blush with neutrals, and beachy shades.

  • Alice

Oh it’s so pretty. I was hoping it would be boring so I wouldn’t be tempted to buy it 🙂

  • Trina

awww dang I wanted this soooo bad but I still have their palette like this from last year (the aqualillies one!) and I still have so much left of it haha. This palette is so pretty though!

  • cat

Not into the rest of the palette but that gold shadow is gorgeous! I wish they’d release it as a single shade. Any dupes you can think of?

    • Lisa

Urban decay has one called half baked in the naked 2 but you can buy it as a single

  • Arielle

Once I saw the packaging and price point I knew I HAD to have it. This is the first complete palette I think I could bring for a quick trip and not pack any other eyeshadow or cheek products. Also I love that they didn’t put a cream product in. I’m picky and won’t buy palettes that mix creams and powders.

  • Katie

Tarte palettes always seem to turn out so well! These colors are beautiful.

  • kimmyyy

Well… I love purple, I have a snake, and I’ve never purchased a tarte palette (passed up on so many cute limited edition ones!), soooooooo… Yep, I’m snatching this up!

  • Elizabeth K.

Beautiful palette, thanks for the review! Does the blush pop out of this palette like it does with Tarte’s blush compacts?

  • Sarai

I’m definitely gonna try to pick this up. I missed the Tarte Mattenificent Palette earlier this year, which I really wanted. Only problem is Rainforest is a mixture of cool and warm tones, wheras Mattenificent was purely cool. I have a preference for cool tones in palettes like these and overall in general on myself.

    • Pam

I was leery of the warm tones myself, but happily I’ve found that everything works on me though the tan shade is a bit warm. Wearing the first three shades together makes a beautiful understated day look. Very flattering. I really like the dark brown too, and can use it on my brows. The gold is not too warm, but is a bit patchy. The bronzer was not orange-y or warm, and the blush is OK, mine wasn’t hard to pick up on the brush, but it doesn’t seem to blend well, and I’m not crazy about the color – I don’t love it, but I can wear it.

Overall, I’m very happy with it, and it will be great for grab-and-go travel.

Did you end up getting one Sarai?

  • Annie D

Does this palette come in a box? I’m ordering from Australia & debating whether I should pay for bubble wrap to protect the palette from shattering.

  • Trisha

I know this palette has been out FOREVER, but Ulta had a deal on it today, and your swatches convinced me to finally get it! So excited 🙂
