Tarte Tarteist Lash Paint Mascara 7

Tarte Tarteist Lash Paint Mascara ($23) is the a new jet black lash mascara that promises to increase lash volume by 2700%. Damn, that’s a lot. As a fond fan girl of Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes Mascara, I’m always on board to try anything and everything new they decide to create in the mascara world.

I try many, many different mascara both budget friendly and higher end and I ALWAYS come back to Lights, Camera, Lashes Mascara! It’s one of my favorite mascaras that adds volume and excellent length to my lashes. I just love it.

So, when Tarte creates a new formula of mascara, I listen!

Tarte Tarteist Lash Paint Mascara

Sad news, kids. Tarte Tarteist Lash Paint Mascara is not going to take the place of my beloved Lights, Camera, Lashes Mascara. Sorry! It’s quite nice but it won’t take the place of my beloved fav. Them be the breaks!

They call it paint for a reason as this was created with triple-black, painted mineral pigments to create a really blacker than black look with a glossy finish. If you have fairer lashes and you want a maraca that’s pigmented this here is a great pick.

The mascara features a sculpted brush that has tiny, grabby little spikes which promise to lift out even the tiniest lashes. It does do a fairly good job grasping lashes but it did struggle with my inner corner lashes a bit. The formula is fairly lightweight so it didn’t leave my lashes stiff or crunchy and there is a certain glossiness to the black finish. It removes easily enough with an oil based eye makeup remover as well and I experienced no issues with smearing or flaking through the wear.

I got two different looks from this depending how many layers I applied. The first layer I get wispy, longer lashes and with two applications my outer lashes have a more winged out appearance and look longer. I think one layer seems to work best for me as the curl seems to go out of my lashes when I apply more. There is a bit of clumpiness and my lashes seem to tangle up if I build too much. I would highly suggest curling your lashes prior to use to avoid any clumps if you plan on building a few layers.

Tarte Tarteist Lash Paint Mascara before after

Tarte Tarteist Lash Paint Mascara provides some nice length but I wasn’t terribly impressed overall with the formula. I wouldn’t say my lashes looked all that much fuller! Sorry, but I’ll stick with my beloved Lights, Camera, Lashes!

Tarte Tarteist Lash Paint Mascara is available now at ulta.com, tarte.com, sephora.com, or get the Sephora Lashstash To Go ($28) that includes a deluxe size of Lash Paint as well as 4 other mascara at Sephora.com.

Muse, I’m sorry you didn’t love this as much as I did!
I really love it, and it definitely works better than lights, camera lashes on me. well let me clarify, LCL gave me an allergic reaction which made my lids itchy and swollen, so I only used it once, but to be honest was not impressed with the lash outcome.

I found this (Tarte Paint) formula so much pleasing to my eyes, no itchiness and no swelling (hooray!) so I was able to actually use this mascara without any reactions.
I love that it is jet black, it fanned out my lashes beautifully, gave me volume and length all day!

did I mention no smudging or flaking so I did not have to worry about looking like a raccoon at the end of the day.
(Also note: my lashes are already naturally curly, so I don’t have to curl them, therefore I can’t comment on curl holding power).

In short, I received a sample from Sephora and will be going back for the full size when it runs out! 😀

Yay! I’m happy to hear it Yelena! 🙂 Glad it worked for you! I’m still an LCL fan girl to be honest! It’s def my HG! I liked this but not quite the results I wanted! I expected a bit more drama with it but I’m happy it worked out for you!

I just used this today and noticed the same thing with my outer lashes! They look so flirty. I did have a few noticeable clumps. It was great on my stubby lower lashes, buuuut rubber bristles scare the crap out of me! I have to use it while sitting 2 inches away from the mirror to make sure I didn’t poke myself lol. I wouldn’t buy the full size but I’ll finish up my sample.

I used this for the first time today and have to agree with you, Muse. It does a great job at lengthening & separating, but did n o t h i n g as far as volume which is what I look for in my mascaras. I, too, will be sticking with my tried-and-true Lights, Cameras, Lashes! 🙂

    • Isabella Muse

Yeah, Kate 🙁 I get both from LCL! plenty of volume, excellent length but this didn’t quite give me the lashes I was hoping for!

I have been patiently waiting for this review. I was afraid of this mascara not being as great as lights, camera, lashes. I personally HATE that type of wand, I just can’t really work with it. I will probably still pick it up because well it’s Tarte . Btw, I picked up the rainforest palette you recommended and OMG it’s fabulous! My everyday staple is in bloom so no big shock I love it. Thanks for the review MUSE! Btw, I wish you would do like a q and a blog or just a get to know muse better, I think we all would love that. You are my favorite blogger and I would just love to know more about you !

I tried this sample sized and I liked it for awhile. But then I don’t know if the sample dried out but one day, I pulled out the wand and all the wand bristles were covered in a layer of product so thick, you couldn’t see individual bristles. I’m too lazy to wipe down the wand before every use so I tossed it. I thought it was rather quick for a sample size to dry out though because it had only been a couple of weeks and I’m hesitant to try a full size.

Great review, thanks! I love Tarte’s LCL too..have just gotten a sample of the one reviewed:) A suggestion please for your review & opinion on a mascara that I absolutely have an undying love for – Isehan Kiss Me Heroine Make Long & Curl Mascara S. (Mascara tube has black top & pink base)
There’s several in the series with a few being 100%HG status like the one i said. Made in Japan. I swear its the most beautiful waterproof budgeproof black mascara I’ve ever tried! If you get it, get the remover in the tube too, cos it hard to remove otherwise;) Thanks for all your reviews..lol..u are one of my most trusted for product help & you’re right on every time:) I’ve been silly & still bought something u rated less – i so regretted not listening! xx

Hi Andrea! How are you? My pleasure! I absolutely love the Kiss Me Heroine series! Many of the mascaras they do are incredible and you’re right about getting the remover, sometimes they just won’t come off, that’s the beauty of Japanese mascara formulas though right? Aw thank you very, very, very flattered to hear that! Aw, it’s ok! Sometimes you have to give in and try it for yourself you know? I read poor reviews and I sometimes buy it anyway as well hoping I’ll have a different experience hehe! Thanks for the lovely comment!
