About That One Time I Hated Snow Fairy……

You ever get really excited about some new makeup or beauty product? I mean the night before Christmas excited. You see it in catalog, online, or in a magazine and it just calls to you or maybe whispers in your ear about how you need to buy it, own it, possess it.

What happens when you get it and you’re crushingly disappointed by it?!

But wait, it’s slowing growing on you and after a few days you’re suddenly madly in love with it!

What makeup or beauty product did you hate at first but love now?

Twelve or so years ago I got my first Lush catalog in the mail very randomly. I never heard of Lush, I never used it before, never even been to a Lush store, and one day a newspaper-like catalog popped into my mail box. I remember it well because it was towards the very end of November and it was advertising Christmas goodies.

One of the first things that caught my eye was Snow Fairy because it was a bright bubble gum pink and Lush wove a tale around how it smelled of fruity delicious candy. They sold me on it instantly. I purchased it and a variety of other things like the dreaded Karma Soap.

I remember getting my order and taking one sniff of Karma and being absolutely crushed. It smelled like dirt and oranges. Needless to say it actually made me not want to smell the rest of my order but I did and was still somewhat disappointed. I can’t believe I’m admitting this as a die-hard Snow Fairy fan but my first sniff I was disappointed. Where was the candy? The fruit? I didn’t get the wicked fruity candy notes they described at all.

That box of Lush got tossed into a corner of my closet and I forgot about it for a week. My closet started smelling incredible by day seven and I was puzzled where it was coming from. Turns out it was that box. After that I decided to head into my bathroom, take a bath, and see what I missed that first time around.

And ever after that I was a beloved Lush fan. Nowadays I stockpile Snow Fairy when it comes out during the Holidays and buy enough to last me until the next Holiday season!

How about you?

What have you makeup, skincare or beauty product or tool did you buy and HATE at first but now you love and use often?

Lush has a new Plum scent that I want to try. But, I am 200 miles away from the nearest Lush store. So it will have to wait. I have a list for my mini vacay. Lush is on there as well as the MAC store. I love getting boxes, but I also love going and trying the product before I buy it, and to be honest, I love the shopping bags. Yes, I’m sick. But I threw a lotion and a hand sanitizer away today. Does that count? Just say yes, darn it. Lol.

I remember thinking that snow fairy smelled of children’s cough syrup the first time I smelt it. I still kinda think it smells like that but somehow I love it. Maybe the nostalgia of my childhood got me.

A couple of items – first of all, my UD Naked 1 palette. I bought it quite a few years after it came out as it was only available by ebay at that time. It was on sale and I thought I would see what the fuss was. I kinda liked it, but I was totally into jewel shades at that time. When I started enjoying neutrals, a couple of years back – I looked at it again, used it and LOVED it. I also have Naked 2, which I adore.

Secondly, was my Guy La Roche Fiji perfume. Used it a lot way back in the day and left it for about 2 decades. Last year I saw it at a Chemist shop, again on sale and all alone, so I decided to purchase it and I now love it.
