How’s Your Makeup Day Going Today?

Remember, everything that can go wrong will go wrong in the makeup world! Especially on days like today! I swear it’s like a Monday morning up in here.

Here’s what went down with my makeup morning!

I start my day fairly early. 4:30 AM aka stupid ass o’clock. Why? Because I have a full time job from 9 to 5 and it’s not blogging. This means I have to make time to take photos, write up posts, etc….that means being up early in the morning.

I don’t function until 5PM. I’m a night owl. This means most of my days are spent stumbling around trying to wake up. I’m a zombie. I don’t like getting up at 4:30 AM but I force myself to do it. If I could, I’d live KISS’s national anthem of rocking and rolling all day and partying every night. This would consist of me staying up all night, going to bed at around 6AM, sleeping like a vampire until 5 PM and waking up to do it all over again.

But, I’m strict on myself and I’m up early so I can get work done on my blog before I head out to my “real life” job.

Today, all was going fine. I got up, I showered, I did my blog stuff, had my little Fage Peach Yogurt fix, and headed in to do my makeup and get dressed to head to work.

This is when stuff went wrong. First I ended up poking myself in the eye with my mascara which resulted in me looking like Alex DeLarge. Andy can pull off that lower lash mascara look brilliantly well but me? Not so freaking much. Armed with a Q-Tip, tissue, and some micellar water I had to delicately work around my eye area and clean it up because I refused to remove my concealer and everything else to start over.

Got that done.

Proceeded to pop open my blush palette and somehow pushed it flat into my shirt above my left breast. So, yeah, big giant peachy stain on my shirt. Dusted it off but it was still there. Ok, change of clothes required but that could wait until I finished my makeup.

Proceeded to apply gloss and pumped the wand a few times which resulted in tiny dots of gloss to fly all over my already soiled shirt.

What in the actual hell? Totally a bad day for makeup. I didn’t even attempt to use eyeliner because god only knows what would happen. I could have loss an eye trying to apply it.

How’s your makeup day going today?

Any mishaps?

    🙂

This is why I love reading your blog: it’s about make up but it’s not just about make up if you know what I mean. But I empathize. I’ve had those days when it all goes horribly awry and I’m usually too irritated (literally and metaphorically) to take off my make up and start over. I’m up early too (4 a.m.) because I go to the gym for a couple of hours before going to work. That said, I don’t wear any make up to work out (I refuse!) so I’ve had instances where the post-workout/shower make up application was so crappy that I just washed it off and went bare faced…at least until I got to the office and at least put on mascara!

    • Isabella Muse

hehe thanks sis 😀 I used to do 4AM too so I could hop on the treadmill before heading out but now I just go with 4:30 that extra half hour of zzzzzs helps so much ;-D I’m home anyway so, I’m completely bare faced and hop in the shower after my treadmill sesh. But if I had to do it in a gym, oh no, I’d need an entire train case and I’d probably screw it up rushing around in the gym to do my face!

I’ll admit, not the best. Last night my cat twisted his toe on the vent holes in a computer case, which somehow resulted in me having a full blown panic attack (???) and ended with me absolutely convinced I was going to get evicted for being a “noise nuisance” because I had screamed.

Anxiety disorders are so fun, aren’t they?

So I didn’t sleep well, and when I woke up this morning I decided I did want to go to work with a full face of makeup. And it looked really nice until I got to my eyes. I ended up a little heavy handed with a brown transition shade and now my eyes look muddy af. I tried to fix it and it resulted in that lovely “punched in the face” look and I was running out of time, I couldn’t wash it all off and start again.

So I’m owning it. 😀 What else can you do?

    • Isabella Muse

oh no! I’d be crazy too if something like that happened to my cat! Poor dear 🙁 LOL I love you right now Sarah! You just work that brown punched eye look 😀

      • Sarah

He broke a nail but he’s actually doing really well, I think I was more upset than he was!

On top of the punched brown eye my left eye just can’t stop watering so I feel on top of my game! Supermodel of the world, coming through!

my dog likes the jump on top of the couch and sit on the back of it. The section she does it on isn’t up against the wall. She did it this weekend like normal but she ended up falling somehow and I freaked the eff out. She’s quite tiny and I was scared she broke something. She hit her little head on the floor. I was nearly sobbing about it. So you aren’t alone 🙂 furbabies make us crazy! LOL! No worries go forth and conquer the day!

LOL–I hate when a shadow doesn’t blend and ends up looking muddy. If it’s me, it’s whatever, but if it’s the formula, I totally toss the shadow. I did that a month ago. I was all like, ain’t no one got time that! 🙂 Good job owning it!!

    • CarrieAnne

Sarah, I’m totally in sync with what you’re saying. I can lose it in the throes of anxiety as well… I’m probably not the best on the face of something that could be an emergency. Eek. Punched in the face looking is better than actual punch in the face. Hugs!

Even though I had to get up early at 7am (early for me, don’t know how you do it!), all was well with my hastily applied five-minute makeup game (I had time for blush even!) until I had to walk twenty minutes in 97 degree heat at 2pm – bye bye foundation, bye bye everything.

    • Isabella Muse

I know what you mean yesterday was blistering! Very humid! I went really light because I knew everything would just melt off 😀

  • Lona

I admire your dedication to blogging! As for my makeup-day, I didn’t apply makeup today, so I guess I’m ok? 😀

  • kjh

Thanks for the Malcolm Mc D Clockwork Orange pic. Great flick. Saw it in London, when it first came out. Must have been spring of 72 or 73.

  • wendy

OMG you poor thing. I think you should have called in sick and went back to bed! LOL
This past Monday when I was putting on my makeup, I grabbed my small brush to smudge my eyeliner and I kept smudging and smudging and nothing was happening. I finally realized that I was holding the brush by the wrong end, so I was smudging with the handle of the brush and not the brush itself ROFL I hate Mondays!

    • Isabella Muse

LOL that sounds like a good plan! LOL omg! that would be something I would do!

  • Kimmwc03

Ugh…I hate when that happens. When it rains, it pours.

It’s been so humid here so I haven’t been wearing much makeup but I pulled out a mascara sample to try today and I managed to smudge it all over my lids (like I’d never worn mascara before).

    • Isabella Muse

isn’t that the truth!? Likewise! Was crazy humid yesterday so went light!

  • wendy

oh and I get up at 4:30 am every morning too — mostly just because I like my quiet time, but really because my spoiled cat wakes me up for food LOL

  • Ruth

what the hell?!? your morning went to crap and you hadn’t even left the house yet! the upside is the blush didn’t break, gloss doesn’t stain, and you had plenty of clean clothes to wear. it’s still a pain in the a@@ though

I don’t know how, but last week, I was putting on the It Cosmetics Bye Bye CC cream (so not even real foundation) and I decided for some weird reason I was going to flick the brush. So globs of the foundation splattered all over my top. I thought I could wipe it off with a makeup remover wipe…but no, you can’t actually. I had to change tops. Oh, well. At least it washed out.

    • Isabella Muse

lucky! Whenever I get foundation on my top it’s a goner. I can never get the stain out!

  • Melanie

Oh Muse this is the kind of day your just put your PJ’s back on and call it a day. I hate when I have these days. I am guilty for calling in and doing a work from home day. Not even worth stepping foot out the door. God only knows what will happen next.

  • Christina

My whole morning has not gone well! I typically shower at night, but since I changed my bob cut, I’ve had to wake up to style it or else it looks crazy. So I showered, and my hair took FOREVER to dry (lots of thick hair…), so I had maybe 5-8 minutes to do my makeup. Fine, not a problem, if I didn’t have hormonal breakouts everywhere and needed to cover up more than normal. No problem, I’ll just reach for a new foundation I just bought and hopefully skip the concealer. Nope! The foundation would not blend well, which resulted in endless blending, and then concealer, and then more blending, and then powder, but I grabbed the wrong powder and ended up caking my face. And then I had to fill that damn bald spot in my brow, which resulted in no time for blush. If it weren’t for my lipstick, I would probably look like a ghost walking around because high coverage foundation, dark hair, and really pale skin without blush just looks scary. :s

It’s just one of those days…

  • Andi

Mine started out ok, I work from home, so a smudge on my top isn’t too bad. I still throw on a bit of make-up though. My new eyeshadow turned out to be way darker than I thought, so if you look closely, you can tell my eyes have different shades on them. My boxes from Ulta and Spehora came – how could that be bad right? When I opened my Sephora box, I got the wrong shade of the foundation stick and my Milk blur stick is cracked. Then the headband I got from Ulta is tiny, I should have listened to the reviews, but no. Went out at lunch and my face is a shiny mess from the humidity.

I know not the end of the world, but, makes you go ugh!

    • Isabella Muse

Aw Andi your day didn’t sound too too bad but there’s enough in there to make you want to roll back into bed for the day 😀

  • Dee

Understand that when I say I laughed reading your post I wasn’t laughing at you! Your dedication to your blog is admirable and so appreciated by so many.

I usually do one eye at a time . Yesterday after getting my right eye done the doorbell rang, and we were expecting someone so I jumped up to answer the door. Then I got busy with other things and it was several hours before I walked back in the bathroom and looked at my counter with all my makeup out and realized I only had one eye done. I had talked to the person at the door, the mailman and a neighbor with only one eye made up.

  • BabyBeans

Actually just today I had the fun experience of carefully applying a beautiful eyeshadow look (with the new Lorac LA palette in Venice Beach) and when I had finished I realized that my eyes were slightly different looking. I then realized I had put NYX Glitter Primer on one eye lid, not the other. So one eye had a more intense look than the other. It bugged me too much, I had to re-do my eyes all over again. Luckily I always do eyeshadow first!

  • Lisa

Hahaha been there too! I’ve poked myself in the eye more than once. It hurts, your eyes tear, and your mascara runs down your face. I have to hop around with one eye closed cursing like crazy until I can clean it up and start over.

The other day I sharpened my burgundy eye pencil only to drop it on my white t-shirt. Ugh.

    Such is the makeup life…..

  • Yen

I appreciate all the hard work you do for your blog. I love how you do these fun posts that is not related to reviews. I am a complete night owl. Sometimes I’d be going to sleep at 4:30 am.

My bad makeup days are happen quite often haha. Last week I was trying to do a winged liner look, but the right side was too thin at the wing. I tried evening it out but that led to me fixing the left side and then the right again. In the end they were wonky shapes on each side. I tried to wipe of the end to fix it by that just made it worse. I had to spot fox my eyeshadow that didn’t want to adhere to my lid. Then the brush on my eyeliner pen was dragging and created another undesirable shape. I gave up and went to work with two differently lined eyes.

    • Isabella Muse

aw thanks yen <3! Twins! Totally can stay up to 4:30 and beyond! 😀 Oh no!!

  • TwirlyGirly

    1). Eye makeup boo-boos…. https://www.elfcosmetics.com/p/makeup-remover-pen
It WORKS…removes mascara smudges when you poke yourself in the eye, fixes wonky winged liner, etc.
2). Baby Wipes! (I like Huggies Natural Care). Baby wipes are one of those miraculous inventions you have to join the “Mommy Club” to learn just how wonderfully versatile they are. My “baby” just turned 21, and I still carry around a travel pack of them everywhere I go. They are FANTASTIC for removing stains from clothing – including makeup – IF you grab one and rub it on the stain immediately. Works on food stains, too (in the event your “Terrible, Horrible, No-good, Very Bad Makeup Day” morphs into a “Terrible, Horrible, No-good, Very Bad EATING Day” a few hours later). I always carry a travel pack of them with me at all times (can also be used to clean your hands).

    • Isabella Muse

I have one of those do love 😀 def helps with makeup boo boos! It’s true! Baby wipes are awesome! I keep them in my glove compartment because they are just great to have for quickie clean ups 😀 Sorry for the delayed reply girl! Catching up on comments!

      • TwirlyGirly

Yes – I have a car pack, too! If something sticky accidentally splashes in my car (like the Pepsi I carry with me at ALL TIMES [I’m not a coffee drinker]), I grab a baby wipe and bye-bye sticky!

The great thing about baby wipes is you know they’re not filled with chemicals or anything that could possibly harm the surface you’re using them on (the list of things you CANNOT use on a baby less than 6 mos. old is lengthy). So, if something is okay to use on a newborn, chances are you’re safe using it on other stuff, too.

In the bathroom, I use them to spot clean the natural hair makeup brushes I’ve used to apply powder makeup products after each use. A couple of swipes on a baby wipe and they’re good to go (thorough cleaning once a week using baby shampoo).

Heck, I even used one to clean up kitty vomit on one of my (cheap) end tables (paper laminate wood grain finish over pressed wood) that had dried overnight. Kitty is not SUPPOSED to get on the table! But he did. I have to be very careful what I use to clean those tables so as not to damage or rub off the faux wood grain. Baby wipes to the rescue!

Yeah, I love me some baby wipes….LOL

        • Isabella Muse

I spill everything so they are great to have in my desk drawer, in my car, etc 😀 LOL too true BUT we used baby powder for years and look what happened with the Johnson and Johnson lawsuit lol!

  • genevieve

I don’t know how you do it, getting up at 4.30 am in winter! Surely some days you can sleep in a bit? You are a legend!

    • Isabella Muse

LOL thanks! Typically I don’t stray from my schedule so no sleeping in 😀
