About the Muse

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. But she’s passionate about makeup and is seeking like-minded individuals that like pina coladas, getting caught in the rain, and ones that enjoy spending hundreds of dollars at Sephora without feeling buyer’s remorse. If you’re that person feel free to reach out and leave a comment or follow me on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Bloglovin‘.

i got suckered into this eyeshadow palette but used a coupon to get 15% off from HSN so at least i didn’t pay full price? the cute packaging + scented palette + duochromes = it was a lost cause for me. i’m so weak. LOL. will let you know once i get it. happy to send pics or do a guest post for ya on it id you’d like me to <3

    • Isabella Muse

I can’t blame you! the oranges in the palette are appealing to me but I haven’t bitten the bullet yet ;-D I’d love that!

      • diane

the oranges are my least favorite but i am LOVING those pinks! And YES lets totally make it happen!!

  • Sarah

This looks like something I would buy my tween niece. I just can’t get this whole look. The colors are ok, but if they want people with money to purchase these products, make them a little more mature and sophisticated. Make up should be fun, but this whole collection reminds me of My Little Pony.

The unicorn is upset that you forgot his magic horn! But you’re so right. Plenty of brands are cultivating the tween set, rather than putting anything remotely adult out. This direction is doubly off-putting, when you are too old to have childhood memories of MLP, Jem, etc. If you are too old for the inspiration, then you are massively too old for current product. No wonder I got the Besame SW 1937 collection, even though the shadows are pretty punk. I write off tf instantly, though I will read relevant blogs/ posts. The thing is, these are mighty high price points for play makeup for tweens…and you get them started, and HE will be their expectation.

      • Sarah

So you are going the grown up route like me? Thank you, friend. We are not too old, we are just mature. I don’t want rainbows or unicorns on a $50.00 eyeshadow palette. Became is a beautiful cosmetic line. I’m with you.

      • Agona

I was a kid in the 80s, so I grew up with MLP and even I don’t find the appeal of TF. Additionally, I’m Asian, into K-Beauty, and TF doesn’t even give me a Kawaii-vibe to me. …sometimes, I think people (in the case, creative designers) have a hard time imagining what’s it’s like to be anybody but them, thus creating something that is niche to them and a small group rather than the population at large.

…either that, or you’re right that they’re trying to market to the tween segment, who I hope wouldn’t have the budget or parents to allow them to get swept up in needing this much of a makeup investment.

        • Isabella Muse

I just want to briefly chime in here and agree completely especially when you said you like K-Beauty and TF doesn’t give me a kawaii-vibe. Someone left a comment in my Too Faced review from Christmas just today to berate me because I felt the Beauty Agenda Palette was too childish and going on to explain how much they love pink and cute stuff and how they were 30. I, too, am of a certain age but TF doesn’t really hit myself sweet spot when it comes to being cute or kawaii. It comes across very childish and not at all as adorable as some of the Japanese and Korean makeup I love. I also agree that the creative designers sometimes just aren’t getting it and creating something they THINK is appealing to others and perhaps they themselves find appealing but it isn’t to everyone else. Great comment as sometimes I truly think I am crazy for not getting the TF marketing.

          • Agona

Haha, well, they’re not getting my money but they’re getting enough to keep going apparently!! 🙂

          • Isabella Muse

Most definitely! I think we might be in the minority!

  • Serena

I also think TF marketing is geared to younger people (although at 55 I get a kick out of some of it) (but the products HAVE to perform!)

What I don’t get is women who bash TF and yet get into Disney collections, Star Wars, Wizardry, other sci-fi, or cutesy Japanese kwaii etc…. It’s all the same to me – not mature, but playful. Sometimes we want to be classy, sometimes playful. But don’t throw stones if you’re hanging out in a glass house (or castle)

    😉

    • Isabella Muse

*raises hand* you described me. I’m a total fangirl that loves Star Wars and cutesy Japanese kawaii characters like gudetama and pusheen but the TF stuff doesn’t quite rub me the right away. Some of it is cute! I liked the Peaches and Cream stuff but I might just be tired of unicorns and that’s why I’m not into this. Sorry, inside the glass house and totally stomping around inside and throwing boulders!

      • Agona

Slightly off topic but I get a little peeved sometimes at (caveating this with this is my personal opinion) of when people tell me (for example) “I love Japan because I’m totally a fan of anime/comics (or whatever)” and then I happily take said people to go get food/shopping and they act like the food/goods are “weird” and are hesitant to try anything and turn up their nose at other Asian things besides that one country they’re obsessed with. -_- …I guess that’s why it annoys me when some people insist that TF is totally kawaii and Asian-y; I would believe it if you told me it was inspired by it but I don’t think you can be create an authentic experience unless you’re immersed in that culture.

Side story: I have a friend that totally nerds out on Japan and we go out for ramen occasionally. I make instant at home, but instant in Asian households actually require some cooking–so I sent him a pic of mine, where I had added soft boiled/poached eggs and veggies and he criticized my add-ins as not being authentic. I had to bite my tongue from saying: hey, buddy, I’ve been doing this for decades and I’m actually Asian…unlike you. So… >< -_-

        • Isabella Muse

I laughed when you said your friend criticized your ramen lol! because I know exactly what you mean. I have a friend who is “into” Japan but doesn’t understand the first thing about the culture, the people, and the more important aspects of Japan. You are not an expert and authority on the topic because you read manga and game! This is of course on the tip of my tongue to tell her but I’m too nice to say anything.

          • Isabella Muse

I know, believe me I know 🙂 Also, always terribly pissy about all the “k beauty experts” that are suddenly popping up!

          • Agona

Yeah…I limit my K-Beauty YouTube watching to those of Korean decent who either live in Korea or return regularly. However, because I’m fluent in Chinese, there’s a couple of Taiwan YouTuber’s that do K-Beauty reviews that I watch in Chinese…I don’t think that’ll help you though because they don’t subtitle in English. (Oddly enough, some Korean language YouTubers will subtitle in English).

    • Kristie Haskett

Totally agree Serena! =D I just received this palette and the Festival setting spray and love them both (even though I’m in my 50’s). In fact, I think this palette is my fav of all I own. Same with the setting spray. The duo-chrome shadows are gorgeous and very pigmented as well. I don’t think I’ve ever owned a palette where I loved every single shadow, but I do with this one. It’s a hit with me!

I have sworn off TF products I don’t give a hoot what the packaging looks like, those well versed in luxury makeup and prices know these products are over priced and under performers. I ignore them now and I will do so until they drop something that drives people frantic with joy. I don’t know about you guys but I need to not spend my dollars on unpigmented dusty looking hard shadows. Thats just my opinion, even if it is negative lol

    • Isabella Muse

I’m with ya. There shadows aren’t hard in my experience but agreed on dusky and chalky.
