Smashbox + Vlada Be Legendary Petal Metal Liquid Lip Review & Swatches
Smashbox + Vlada Be Legendary Petal Metal Liquid Lip ($24) in Petal Metal, Rose Magic, and XO, Valda are three limited edition metallic liquid lipsticks that launched in collaboration with lip artist Vlada Haggerty earlier this month.
How cool would it be if these were eyeshadows? That was the first thought I had when I opened the box and slipped out the shade Rose Magic. The shades are very intense and rich in the barrel and have the look of liquid metal.
I am very guilty of purchasing all three shades and I do regret the purchase since I am so NOT a fan of metallic lipglosses or lipsticks. It’s a rare day I favor a metallic finish on my lips and I thought for sure these might change my mind but they didn’t. The formula is quite lovely though!
Smashbox + Vlada Be Legendary Petal Metal Liquid Lip arrive in gorgeous limited edition packaging with rose gold caps that have a blooming rose on the tip. Each barrel holds 0.27 oz of lipstick which makes these the same price and same size as the permanent line of Be Legendary Liquid Lips.
The colors are really bold, rich, and intense but not quite the rose golds I imagined. Rose Magic is described as a metallic rust rose gold but I personally think it’s more a burnt orange-y copper, Petal Metal is described as a metallic rose gold but on my lips the shade pulls more of a beige champagne, and XO, Vlada is described as metallic bronze warm gold which I agree with.
These are beautiful, true metallic lip shades with bold pigmentation on a single application. The colors have a liquid metal finish and a highly reflective look on lips that’s quite beautiful but not something I was comfortable wearing. I felt liked I looked a foolish with these on and even a little too made up. I went very soft and natural with my look when doing this review since the colors are so intense but I also tested them with a smoky eye look and I still felt very uncomfortable in them. They just look unnatural on my lips and aren’t really a look I can pull off. But that’s not to say everyone will feel the same. I’ve seen some people rocking these in reviews I’ve read and watched. It’s just not a look I can pull off personally.
The formula is very thick but it has a smooth, easy glide on my lips. I had fear this formula would accentuate dryness and fall into my natural lip lines but it did not. The color was smooth and even. I didn’t experience migration issues either nor feathering. The formula wasn’t drying at all nor hydrating but it isn’t a liquid lipstick that requires an oil-based remover to remove either. It wears for a solid five hours but if I wanted to remove it before that time I could simply tissue it off and start over with a new shade or reapply easily. I did detect some sort of vanilla scent and flavor but it wasn’t strong.
If you like metallic lips I would say Smashbox + Vlada Be Legendary Petal Metal Liquid Lip do not disappoint. These are truly created for those who love a bold lip look.
