I think that even Marvin would find something enlightening to say about the Bobbi Brown Platinum Shimmer Brick! You can’t possibly be miserable with this hanging around your cosmetic collection can you?
All that silver and pink is quite robotic or is that my inner geek coming out to play?
Bobbi Brown Platinum Shimmer Brick could host up my new favorite category as it’s truly a gorgeous compact! Combining softer pinks with hints of silver and contrasting it all with a few bolder shades makes for an interesting cool look this Spring season! Today I reviewed Bobbi Brown Sparkle Eye Shadows for you and I couldn’t help thinking how fabulously Ballet would go with the Platinum Shimmer Brick.
The shades in the compact range from a softer pink, with a tiny touch of silver, a few bolder shades of pink, and finishing with a soft peach. Combined together the effect is a subtle pink, silver glow that highlights cheeks and face. On top of a cool pink blush this shines through as a luminous glow.
I was quite happy to see that Bobbi Brown seems to be embracing this new style compact for her Shimmer Bricks. Where as most of the older bricks are housed in a black compact this comes in a silver compact with a padded cover just like the Copper Diamond Shimmer Brick released this Winter season!
I tend to have a heavy hand during application so my FOTD’s have a slight shimmer overload look but with a lighter hand you can achieve a very nice subtle shimmer finish that’s sophisticated and perfect for daytime use. The brick screams Spring in a major way and compliments many cool looks, particularly pastels and pinks. If you’re unlucky enough to have chubby cheeks like the Muse you’ll be happy to take note that the brick creates a rather nice flushed looks to cheeks and makes your face glow. The product isn’t deeply pigmented and I think it works best on your face however you can easily use it a a nice eyeshadow for a sheer wash of color on lids.
For my look I combined a soft pink on my lids with a sparkling silver on my lower lash to contrasts with the silver and pink in the brick.
All in all the Bobbi Brown Platinum Shimmer Brick is probably one of the prettiest ones I own and it’s quite a lovely edition to my collection. This one is Muse Approved for purchase! The Muse loves the color, loves the Spring feeling of the brick, and particularly likes that sci-fi feel of it! Marvin approves too if you were wondering!

Tell the Muse!
Happiness and the key to a cheerful mind is housed inside a cute orange and yellow tin with, of all things, a badger on the front.
The Muse happens to be a very, very, very big fan of Badger Balms and she thinks they are something you need to know about so she’ll be featuring a few reviews of these incredible balms in upcoming posts!
Today I’m bringing you the opportunity to free your mind, sooth your senses, and enter a state of cheeriness with Badger Cheerful Mind Balm.
The Muse is a very cheerful by nature! She smiles lots, laughs often, and doesn’t take this life too seriously. We’re only here for a short while so we might as well laugh our way through the journey!
She doesn’t need any help in the cheer department but that doesn’t stop her from simply loving all over Badger Cheerful Mind Balm. Tuck this soothing balm in your purse or work desk draw so you can experience a cheery moment or two when you’re in need!
What is it?
It’s an organic balm with made with olive oil, beeswax, and other friendly skin loving ingredients.
What’s it do?
It’s meant to be used on your hands, temples, forehead, or other various pulse points as a aromatherapy treatment for getting you into a state of cheer! Look to it for those gloomy Monday mornings or when work is just a bit too much or maybe when sitting in traffic. A small amount will surround you with the scent of a dominant citrus note mixed with herbs and flowers and a soothing hint of spearmint that brings the scent to another level.
Does it work?
Yes! Seriously it does. I use it when I need to wake my sleepy self up Monday mornings. I’m SO not a morning person and a little dab of this on my temples and even under my nose makes me feel awake and quite happy and cheery! Plus the dull Winter weather a bit more bearable.
But what else can I use it for?
Well, you don’t have to depend on this simply to put you in a cheery mood or maybe you’re the type of person that just doesn’t believe that a simple balm will put you in a happy mood! That’s ok! Use the balm to soften your hands and cuticles, use it on cracked heels, use it on rough elbows and knees, all while enjoying the perfect scent of orange and spearmint!
The formula needs a little warming up so rub a clean fingertip into it and circle around and around to create a nice emollient oil. The balm absorbs easily into skin and doesn’t feel greasy or oily! Remember to place it in places where your body temperature is warmer such as pulse points now relax, breath deep, and get into that cheery mind frame!
With a budget friendly price tag of $8 USD for a large size tin you’ll be experiencing a bit of cheer without breaking the bank!
You can purchase Badger Balms directly from their website if you want or Drugstore.com sells them as well for International readers.
Badger Balms are Muse Approved for purchase!
Just so you know I sincerely do not like Smashbox Primer. Eep! Sorry Smashbox the Muse no likey! It breaks me out terribly and it pills horribly and lord shall I go on? Isn’t that enough to make you want to cry?
When I heard about Smashbox Hybrid 2 in 1 Luminizing Primer which was released with the Spring 2009 Collection, I kinda sorta felt intrigued simply because it looked all shimmery and pretty. The Muse’s brain works on one level, present her with anything that glows or looks shimmery and her brain registers it as an instant yes, wants it!
Jump ahead for the review!
I believe Smashbox Hybrid 2 in 1 Luminizing Primer was originally released with the Green Room Collection. Correct me if I’m wrong but that’s how the Muse recalls it.
What is it?
It’s actually a luminizer and a primer all in one product. The primer works at prepping your face for makeup and the luminzer highlights skin. Now actually this is where the product fails a teeny tiny bit for me. The packaging is difficult to work with and I’m left wondering if maybe it would have been a better idea to have a primer and a lumininzer separate, two products, two separate packages. Two products, one package…no likey. The tube that this is housed in has a dual chamber and two holes in one spout. This means you have to squeeze the tube just the right way to get the right amount of product out of both chambers. Most times this means you get either too little or too much of any one product. Very difficult packaging to work with and terribly irritating for me. I like my cosmetic sans an MD degree to operate, call me old fashion.
Aside from my rant about the packaging the product overall is quite nice. A little tiny bit goes a long way as you could succumb to disco ball shimmer overload if you apply too much. I actually prefer Smashbox primer when it’s mixed up with the luminizer. It doesn’t pill, doesn’t itch as it normally would, nor does it have a silicon feel, these are all bonuses for me! The formula is gel-like in consistency and absorbs easily into skin leaving behind a peachy, gold finish. Actually I was duly impressed that using this did extend my foundation by a few hours of wear.
I normally use this prior to blush but you can use it after if you desire to highlight cheek bones or you can use it a tiny dab on your eye lids or brow bone for a little hint of shimmer! I do think that this makes a fine product for Summer but I wasn’t feeling it for Spring.
Overall, I did like the product aside from the crummy packaging. It’s well worth checking out if you have a highlight/luminizer fetish or if you’re looking to replenish your current bottle of Smashbox Photofinish Primer why not nab this and get two products in one?
Tell the Muse!
The Muse didn’t realize how big Labello would be when she posted a review on some Labello Lipbalms a few weeks ago! Suddenly her inbox is filed with comments and questions about Labello.
So at many a reader request I decided to do some more Labello reviews. One in particular that comes with a Muse Approval for purchase in Labello Caregloss and Shine!
Find out why after the jump!
There are only two shades of Labello Caregloss and Shine which does so make my life easier. As much as I love Labello it does get a bit overwhelming when it comes to the variety of a simple lip balm! Sometimes taking away options for the Muse is a good thing otherwise she’d sit there and want every single color. In this case the best shade available is Pink Star! Amen for lack of colors! For once I’m relieved I don’t have to make difficult color selections.
I have a slew of reasons why I absolutely adore Labello CareGloss and Shine starting with the color! Pink Star is the perfect pink that makes lips look natural and pretty. It’s just such a flattering shade of pink that makes my lips look full, pouty, and very, very pretty. The shade has a certain fun feel about it and makes me feel girly! Probably the most important factor about Labello Caregloss and Shine is the formula which allows for endless hours of wear. The formula has a slight silicon feel but remains slippery and glossy with a shiny, mirror finish. The silicon aids the gloss in wearing quite long on your lips while having a very comfortable wear without a sticky or tacky feeling. The gloss keeps lips moist and heals chapped or dry lips all while giving a beautiful touch of pink to lips! How many healing lip products do you have lying around that heals lips and offers great color?!
Doesn’t it look soooooo pretty on my lips!?
If you’re wanting a long lasting gloss with beautiful color and the ability to heal dry, chapped lips look no further as Labello Caregloss and Shine has you covered.
A tried and true favorite for the Muse. Loves it!
A few readers have asked me where to get Labello online and I’m really not an expert as I have someone who ships them over from Europe for me but I do suggest trying E-bay or these shops:
Prices are sadly not retail and are nearly 50% higher than what you’d pay in Europe but Labello is such good quality it’s probably worth the increase.
I always get rather excited when I see Clio releasing new items as they don’t do so nearly enough!
Releasing a brand new base collection along with a point collection offers many options this season for perfecting skin and creating a colorful Spring look!
Much of the new base collection embraces anti-aging with Q10 to help promote fresher, rejuvenated skin.
Clio Collagen Essence Foundation firms and lifts skin.
Clio Collagen Essence Concealer firms and lifts skin under the eyes while concealing fine lines and dark circles.
Clio Collagen Essence Pact contains an SPF 22 and collagen boosting benefits to sooth skin and regenerate.
Clio Art Lip Gloss is available in 17 shades offers a clear sparkle with Vitamin E and C.
Housed in an deco lipstick case Clio Art Lipstick is a pigmented, moisturizing formula.
Clio Lip Plumping Pencil offers a high shine finish and a formula that plumps lips for a flirty Spring Pout!
Clio Art Shadow 1.5 embraces the old Clio shadow lie but with a new twist. A trio of shades instead of single color. Use all three shades to create a perfect Spring eye look!
Quite a nice selection of goodies from Clio for Spring 2009 me thinks. I already have a great deal of the single shadows from Clio and I’m absolutely loving the idea of trio. The base makeup all looks rather good as well particularly the concealer.
Although none of this is available within the US keep your eyes peeled and check up on Sasa as sooner or later the collection is available…a little late..but better late than not at all!
