I Dunno Who Needs To Hear This But Stealing is Stealing

There’s this new filter on Tiktok called the “Versailles Run” which is a woman in a formal ballgown running through the Palace of Versailles. People have used it in many creative and funny ways.

I did come across one Tiktok that I won’t re-post as I don’t want the person posting it to get hate for it but it sort of made me really question humans for a second there. It said something along the lines of, “Me leaving Sephora after returning a Dior Foundation after refilling it with drugstore foundation”. That wasn’t the exact wording but it was along those lines…! Again, just trying to protect her identity here and not cause any bullying. What she does is her business however, since she put it out there for the world to see I feel like I can agree to disagree with her.

Ok, funny, haha…! Problem is she was readily admitting to doing this in the comments and over 3k people are over there patting her on the back for doing it and even people saying they were going to try it with her encouraging them to do it. Even worst people admitting they emptied out Urban Decay Setting Spray into a bottle and returned water and other “creative” ways they’ve screwed the system. Wow. Mind blown.

One of the saddest things about the situation was some people did step up to say something about this being wrong only to have a million people snark them out about being Karens or how Sephora is a big business and the can afford to lose money.

I’m so sorry I have to take the moral high ground here for a minute.

This is never ok to do. Stealing is stealing no matter how you do it. If you can’t afford something I’d say look for a cheaper duplication of it. There are so many wonderful bloggers, Instagrammers, and influencers out there that provide dupes for just about any product around. Going so far as to buying a bottle of foundation, emptying it out, and refilling it with something cheaper is really beyond the beyond. I don’t care how anyone feels about big corporations or brands. This simply isn’t right.

The corporation is not getting screwed here. The consumer doing this is screwing themselves when prices get raised because the return ratio is too high and most importantly, they end up screwing the employees who end up having issues if their return levels are at an unusually high mark. The excuse of, “Oh they throw out returns anyway!” really isn’t a GOOD excuse at all. Why is anyone even creating such an excuse for outright stealing? Brands and major department stores see product returns as an eroder to overall profits. Places like Sephora have had to revise their return policies because of this. Even Nordstrom who is notoriously generous about returns and lenient about them has had to change their policy. People are only hurting themselves doing stuff like this and it makes me sad that the excuse is, “Sephora can afford to lose money!”

Sigh.

Ok, jumping off my high horse now.

But I had to rant for a second.
