Urban Decay Holiday 2009: Urban Decay Show Pony Shadow Box Review and Swatches

As you know already Urban Decay hit the scene early with their Holiday Collection. They are probably one of the first brands that have their Holiday stock up and available for retail on their site. Pretty exciting and impressive considering it seems like December is ages away but in reality it’s never to early to get shopping done early now is it?

I’ve already introduced you to all of the offerings from Urban Decay Holiday 2009 and today I’ll be bringing you some swatches and a review of one of their newest palettes for the season entitled Show Pony Shadow Box. It’s fierce peeps, you so needs one.

Take a look after the jump!

Artsy types take note this palette was illustrated by Kime Buzzelli, popular in the LA art scene. Her design is pretty wicked as it does give off a certain preview to what you’ll find inside as each woman depicted on the palette has colorful shadow and makeup on their lids and cheeks.

Six shades of shadow, an Urban Decay 24/7 Liner, and a Primer Potion makeup this darling little palette. Part of it’s overwhelming appeal for me is the fact that two of the six shades are exclusive to the set. I’m a huge fan of Urban Decay eye shadow so presenting me with exclusive anything in their shadow department makes me gasp for breath in excitement.

The shadows you’ll get are:

  • Snatch (Exclusive Shade, peachy, pink with glitter)
  • Painkiller (Exclusive Shade, turquoise shimmer)
  • Mildew (olive green)
  • Flash (bright purple)
  • Toasted (copper)
  • Smog (deep bronze)

The palette is pretty versatility as it has that bold Urban Decay edge but also includes shades such as Toasted and Smog for a more subdued, nude look. The palette itself has a nice size mirror with the design wrapping around the entire palette and making it’s way inside. It’s a sturdy palette and with a funky design that’s fitting for Urban Decay’s image. Including the mini primer potion and 24/7 Eyeliner in Zero (black) is a great little extra bonus to the inexpensive $30 price tag.

Overall, if you’re an fan of the line you’re so going to want to pick up the Urban Decay Show Pony Shadow Box or if you’re looking for a perfect gift a make up lover this is sure to please. The exclusive shades of shadow make it noticeably more appealing for me particularly because Snatch is quite a unique shade of peachy pink.

All in all a rather fab early start to my Holiday season!

Loves it! Total Muse Approval for purchase.

Damn it! I’ve been looking for a shade like snatch for a while, but I don’t need the other colours! I wonder if it’s possible to depot? I know UD shadows fit in my MAC palette… I could sell the rest on 😉

    • the Muse

oh kirsty how about X it’s not quite the same but it does have a peachy pink glean 😀 I think these are a tad smaller than a mac single but not sure….

  • Fresco Phyrra

I HATE HATE HATE their glitter! Gah! Worst fallout all over my face than any thing I’ve ever tried.

That said, I love their shimmer finish.
I love Sellout, Flash, Flipside, Baked and Asphyxia.

    Painkiller looks amazing.

    • the Muse

ha lol dd. I always have a major fall out prob with UD. I find paint pots help with it 😀 that said I adore the shimmer finishes too and also the glitter ones regardless of fall out 😀

      Painkiller=my new best friend!

      • Fresco Phyrra

Hm, specifically a paint pot? Or any sticky base, like a paint pot/indelible cream eye shadow/nyx jumbo eye pencil?

I recently got Fyrinnae’s Pixy Epoxy and that is an amazing sticky base that turns any eye shadow into what they loook like foiled, without the mess!

        • the Muse

I’m not big on mac pp’s but in this case they work awesome for UD glitter shadows. I’d go with the PP if you have one laying around as it doesn’t crease and such. Haven’t tried anything else aside from a pp 😀

You can try out the others though, may work! 😀

          • Fresco Phyrra

Yeah I have a few paint pots: Delft, Blackground and Bare Study. I have lots of the Nyx Jumbo eye pencils, and several indelible creams 😉

I’ll definitely give the sticky bases a try with them. I can’t remember if I tried them with a sticky base before or not.

          • the Muse

bare study! that’ll work perfect 😀 try it 😀 bet you’ll love it. It works great for fall out shade sticks work a treat too!

  • Marina

WOW! thank you for a review, Muse!
UD have awesome products and fabulous design .
And love the colors:) Plus it’s cool to get their best products with shadows. I am talking about 24/7 Liner + Primer Potion!

    • the Muse

my pleasure Marina! Absolutely agreed 😀 I thought the price was rather nice for all you get 😀

  • Mollie

I looooove Urban Decay! Especially since I am vegan… that tends to make finding makeup harder. (Whose fault is that really? LOL.) UD is excellent quality, cruelty-free and much of it is vegan friendly. =)

Now I want this palette, the Book of Shadows II, AND some of the lipsticks.

    • the Muse

me too mollie it was my first hg brand for a long time 😀 oooo don’t say book of shadows II I NEED it so badly!

  • Mollie

    Oooooh, guess what?

I splurged and ordered the Book of Shadows Vol II yesterday- so it should get to me by the end of the week. I am SO excited. =P I haven’t bought myself anything for a long time, so I figured why not buy something amazingly awesome. (It was either that or the Too Faced Natural Eye Palette, but I knew I would use the UD BoS more often.)

    • the Muse

fantastic Mollie very jealous here! I’m waiting for Sephora FF 😀 the BoS is way better! More color options 😀 As much as I love the Too Faced NEP I’m all on the BoS palette that’s an awesome palette 😀

  • Tigress

I got this on sale for $20 on the UD site and I’m having lots of fun with it. I have to say that I absolutely detest glitter eyeshadows, so Snatch will have to be lonely forever. I did wear it to work the other day paired with Flash, and I could tolerate it by tapping all of the glitter off of the brush into the sink. A few pieces still hung on and my eyes itched all day and night! I just hated the look of glitter shadows before, and now they scare me for a whole new reason.

I’m really loving Toasted right now. The finish is super gorgeous and you can pair it with Painkiller for a really awesome look. The 24/7 pencil runs and transfers on me, which is really disappointing since they are heralded as the best. 🙁
