Love Clover Lip Dolce Cafe 5261 Review and Swatches

Love Clover is a Japanese brand put out by B&C Laboratories, you know, those guys responsible for the Sony Black Head Stick.

Love Clover is actually quite a cute, girlish brand and I own a few bits and bobs from the line. I recently purchased the Love Clover Lip Dolce Cafe in the limited edition shade 5261.

Jump for my take!

Contrary to it’s appearance and shape it’s not a lipstick. I normally hate this popular style of packaging in glosses released in Japan. It’s basically shaped in the same style of a lipstick with a twist bottom to release color. For all it’s appearance as a lipstick it is indeed a lip gloss. I find this style of applicator is a bit difficult to work with as the applicator doesn’t always want to corporate with the curve of my lips and I end up smearing the gloss all over my mouth in a chaotic way.

Aside from my minor rant…the gloss for the most part is ok. Again, it falls victim to the formula of many of the same style glosses which is one part glossy, one part slightly silicon feeling. I’d have probably avoided it completely but the LE shade, 5261, was calling my name.

I’m glad I did get it as the shade is quite gorgeous and reminds me of Urban Decay Naked in some ways. The shade is a cool golden rose pink that applies in a near naked way leaving behind pigmented color but improving on the color of your natural lip shade.

Overall, I heart the cute packaging and the pretty shade really worked for me but I’m not big on the formula and don’t find it particularly special and can’t find anything to rave about. It’s a nice gloss but the shade is the true winner in this case. I’d recommend it if you like nude shades of pink, as this one is a gorgeous one!

  • suz

seems cute…but glosses I can live without…just too many sticky crap out there!

    • the Muse

i hear ya suz, kinda made my peace with sticky formulas, helps them to stick around longer 🙂

I agree; the lip gloss in a lipstick package just seems awkward (not to mention confusing). I love the color, though – it looks wonderful on you!

    • the Muse

christine I used to like this packaging but it’s a pain in the butt lately as it ends up all over my lips 😀 aw thanks hun!

  • Ceriene

Love the look of this lip gloss. I’ll have to check for it if I head to Japan anytime soon. 🙂

And I have to say, I love this look on your muse. You’re rocking the smoky eye, and unlike some of your other photos, you don’t look too glittery (though, it may not be the make-up. Maybe it’s the flash?).

he ceriene 😀 it’s a cute shade 🙂 AW shucks thanks darling! It’s the new UD shadow I’m sporting 😀 glitter/shimmer really looks bad under the flash of my cam sadly! 🙂
