Tokidoki At Sephora: Tokidoki Prisma Lip Gloss Review and Swatches

Tokidoki at Sephora garners some attention if you’re a packaging junkie. I happen to be just that so of course I’m all about the cuteness that is Tokidoki makeup!

Tokidoki combines an ultra cute packaging combined with the super sweet flavor and scent of blueberries to bring you their Prisma Lip Gloss.

Check it!

What is it?

Tokidoki Prisma Lip Gloss is an inexpensive $15 sheer lip gloss with ultra cute Tokidoki themed packaging! Loves it!

The Good….

Wow, what a lovely gloss. Not only is the packaging super nice but I absolutely adore the gloss. The gloss features a cute gloss cap that holds a Tokidoki character inside a snow globe of shimmery confetti! Quite sweet. The gloss itself is super sheer and subtle with a CRAZY sweet scent and taste, I’m talking SERIOUS taste here. The gloss feels very nice on my lips and gives them a super high sheen shine. Its comfortable to wear sans a sticky, tacky feel and the taste just makes it extra special in my opinion. A rather nice gloss! But it has its downfalls which I’ll share with you in a second). I got the shade Samba which is a sheer peachy pink but honestly pretty much transparent for the most part. I love that they embraced a Japanese spatula applicator. Many of my Asian lip glosses sport this style of applicator and for me it makes it SUPER easy to apply, layer, and get a fuller lip look using such an applicator like this.

The Bad….

Sadly, I was every so slightly disappointed with the packaging. It feels like they spent more effort working on the outer packaging that the gloss comes in (which you’ll toss out or keep if you’re a hoarder like me) than they did with the actual gloss package. The TokiDoki images aren’t anywhere on the actual tube of gloss and you’re only privy to the brand name. The actual character in the (I got Samba a sweet little monkey) cap is adorable but is covered in chunky pieces of shiny confetti so you can barely see him. As much as I adore the taste and feel of the gloss on my lips its incredibly short wearing! The gloss slides off your mouth within mere minutes of putting it on. If you layer it you may get an hour out of it but no more than that.

Who might love it?

  • Tokidoki fans!
  • Beauty junkies that adore kawaii packaging!
  • Fans of super glossy gloss!
  • Anybody who adores a yummie smelling, tasty gloss.

Who might hate it?

  • Women who like their gloss to wear all day!
  • Anyone sensitive to heavily fragranced makeup.
  • Anyone not interested in cute packaging that could be deemed immature.

Final Thoughts……

This had the potential for greatness written all over it but sadly the wear time really kills the deal. I still love it but I’m quietly trying to justify to myself if I need more colors because honestly its like buying the same gloss over and over again since the shades are all transparent with zero pigmentation and the only difference is the cute packaging.

I like it alot and think its worth getting at least one but I wouldn’t go too crazy and purchase several as they will all pretty much perform the same way.

Very nice but has a few flaws.

Anyone try?

i so wish these wore in the color they look in the tube!!! 🙁 disappointed
    {p.s. that monkey is so damn cute, my bro & sis-in-law incl samba in my b-day pres}

    • the Muse

dina your bro/sister in law rock 😀 nice pressie! sigh…me too. I’d buy one of each even if I thought they were SLIGHTLY different but the shades all apply pretty much the same way!

      • dina

yes their gift was a toki wonderland 😀 i agree w/ nunu, disappointed overall unfortunately ~ maybe i’ll just sit & gaze @ the outsides. plan on getting another lip marker & gloss plus the ciao ciao shadow but that’s about it [have a liquid eyeliner, diamante palette, & a lip marker already]. i was fully prepared for one of each so now we can redirect our funds right ?! bright side here guys. p.s. got that freakin’ lilac palette @ target finally plus the cheek tint (very nice!) and some of their new bath offerings there oh & the soap & glory body scrub on sale WA-HOO 🙂

  • Nunu

I was so disappointed with the Tokidoki line in general 🙁
Such beautiful packaging, yet such poor quality. The eyeshadow palettes contained 1 or 2 shadows in every palette that has the grittiest glitter and gives me the most awful fall out. The Luminosa powder is gorgeous but disappears in mere minutes and I was ever so disappointed with the glosses cos I was hoping for colour damnit!
I bought the Diamante palette anyways in true package whore style -___-

hey nunu how are you dear, miss u around here. I didn’t try my quads yet but sounds unpromising 🙁 LOL hells yes on packaging at the very least we get awesome packaging for our buck!

  • kali

I swatched all the colors instore and realized that they ALL look practically the same too -with a slight tint but on the lips you can tell they’ll all look pretty much the same. I’m quite disappointed by this but then again, it is a sheer gloss. But you have to wonder why they’d put in so much time and effort to put out 16 glosses just to make them all look the same!!

    • the Muse

sucks right kali? sad sigh! I agree…a little pigment would have been awesome!

  • Holly

I played with these at Sephora the other day. I stopped in primarily to check out the whole Toki Doki line and… mostly disappointed. I was psyched when I saw these glosses b/c the colors look so fun! There’s blue and green even! The bright purple looked promising but… they all look the same on. I literally put every single one on my hand hoping that the next shade would be different. The packaging is cute but I didn’t buy anything from Toki Doki (didn’t stop me from stocking up on some other stuff though!)

  • jonnie

I got pirate monkey and it wasn’t totally clear like the other one I got (rodarte love or something like that). I feel about the same as you do… I love the smelll and taste and really I think they both look great when they are first applied (and how could I not love the topper?) . I think the spatula is awesome… i’d never used an applicator like that before. But the wear time totally blows! 🙁

    • the Muse

hey jonnie I refrained from purchasing more as they all looked the same le sigh but love the taste, smell and applicator just wish it wore longer le sigh!

  • Miss D

I purchased a glitter eyeliner called Adios Apple (a purple shade).
It’s ok, but it’s nothing extraordinary. If I didn’t have my 15% off coupon I probably wouldn’t have indulged. But some of the packaging does look cute!

    • the Muse

I agree Miss D the packaging is adorable but the actual product is so so 🙁

  • Tillie

I have the blue one ( ninja dog ) i realy like it! the color isnt like super pigmented but its ok, i dont want to look like i have kool-aid on my lips! the aplicator is realy cool its differnt but in a good way, iv never had any lip gloss with this aplicator but so far i really like it. Its like REALY glossy ( LOVE IT ) but truthfully…the snow globle with a cute character really caught my eye! I will probably buy this again probalby in differnt colors ( tryin somthin new) they are just a little bit overpriced $15 for a lipgloss but some( sandy, green and burger, orange) are on sale and cost $5 over all… I LOVED IT!
