Beauty on a Budget: Wet n Wild Mega Last Lip Color Review and Swatches

Want a full color lipstick with a super matte finish? Want it cheap?

Wet n Wild Mega Last Lip Color might fit the bill!

Jump!

What is it?

A super inexpensive long wearing lip color with a semi-matte finish in a creamy formula.

The Good…..

Not much of a Wet n Wild fan girl here but I’ll bite the bullet and say wow on this one. The formula is a creamy, long wearing lipstick with a rich color pay off that glides on lips leaving behind incredibly velvety color. I picked one of these up on a pure whim because I was looking for new beauty budget bits and bobs to review. It set me back $3.69 which for drugstore lipstick is incredibly cheap.

It deserves to be mentioned I’m really not a matte fan. Be it eyeshadow or lipstick, matte, for me, is NOT where it’s at. I simply can’t stand the formula of a matte lipstick as it’s normally very dry and difficult to apply plus it makes my lips look good for all of five minutes before it begins to migrate around and end up everywhere on my face but my mouth.

Now….Wet n’ Wild Mega Last Lip Color does have a great creamy formula that applies effortlessly. No problems with application here and leaves behind a seriously pigmented pout plus the semi-matte formula looks very elegant in some ways.

The Bad….

As I said I can’t work matte lipstick but this isn’t too bad on, it looks rather nice particularly when paired up with a heavily lined cat eye. However….formula pretty much falls right into my normal experiences with matte lipstick. The lipstick wears well for perhaps an hour but it begins migrating around my mouth rather quickly so I’m sporting lipstick on my upper lip line, on my chin, etc….not pretty put it that way. On top of the moving adventures around my mouth it also dries my lips out in a major way which makes it look rather gross. I’m sure you’re quite familiar with how dried, caked on lipstick looks but if not think of weird pilling action going on that looks like your lips are peeling. Gross!

Who Might Like It?

  • Anyone who knows HOW to sport matte lipstick.
  • Anyone who LOVES matte lipstick!
  • Anyone looking for an affordable matte lipstick option.

Who Might Not Like It?

  • Anyone with fine lines, wrinkles, etc…as this won’t look pretty on a less than smooth lip.
  • Anyone who can’t work the matte look and has a difficult time doing so.

Final Thoughts…

Honestly, it’s a damn nice lipstick for its price range however I personally can’t work it correctly. I dunno if I’m too chatty, or if I’m biting, licking my lips a little too much…but by the end of the first hour I look like a hot mess. The lipstick migrates badly on me since I’m not a lip liner girl plus I’m just too much of a nibbler to have this stick around long enough. I imagine if you know how to work the matte look already this might be a great lipstick but for folks like me, best to avoid.

Are you a matte lippie lover?

I actually really like my Revlon Matte lipsticks and my Silk Naturals matte lipsticks. I’m not much of a matte fan, but they’re nice for when I want a change from the normal. Revlon’s Pink Pout matte is like the perfect natural looking lip shade on me.

hey dd I actually liked the way matte looked but..mmm it really sucks after an hour…cracked, peeling, gross 😛

With mattes you need need need to exfoliate and apply a nice moisturizing balm before applying. Also I’ve found that wearing a lip liner (I use a clear one that works with any color, reversible liners work too) not only keeps lipstick from migrating but helps it last longer as well. The colors of this line have some dupes for the YSL Rouge Volupts too which is what caught my eye, though of course the formula is nomatch for the YSL

I picked up one of these not too long ago, in the lightest pink shade. I think it was a total waste of my money. The matte does not work for me!

I looooove their matte l/s. I have so many and love them all. This one is so pretty and has to be seen IRLand on to really be appreciated.

def! I agree sonia must see them in person 😀 sadly can’t make matte work well myself but have fun trying 😀

Pat the matte. Patting adjusts coverage and makes matte formulas work more like adjustable coverage stains. You can get a rose petal finish that looks super-pretty with light colors for natural and neutral looks.

Its rather hard to master. Im one to keep on trying, and biting my lips alot self consciously……cause of stressful job…DOESNT help. Haha, but it really works tho, and its worth putting on and trying to master it. Lip plumper makes it worse, its really glue like. Id try a chapstick or nivea, makes it stay better.=)

?: You might have a clue as to what happened to the Wet N Wild Fantasy Makers Midnight Blue Lipstick? I’ve searched everywhere, all drug stores, walmart…etc. Halloween stores even hot topic and spencers. No one has it. All they have or have heard of is: Black and Red. But I’ve bought it before and I still have the tinest bit at home…its about a yr or 2 old. lol. Just wondering if you or anyone could help me find it. Or knows why they dont make it anymore. Ty!=)
