Bobbi Brown Sparkle Eye Shadow Denim and Bobbi Brown Shimmer Lip Gloss Raspberry Review and Swatches: Bobbi Brown Denim and Rose Review and Swatches

Bobbi Brown listens to every little word I utter…not really but I like to think she does but I’m pretty sure, almost positive, that the word got back to her about how in love I am with her Sparkle Eye Shadows. After hearing such, I imagined her sitting down with the marketing team and saying, “We need a new shade of Sparkle Eye Shadow for that crazy Muse chick…”

And that’s the story of how the new Bobbi Brown Sparkle Eyeshadow in Denim came to be or at least it did in my wildest dreams.

Jump to hear me babble a bit about the new Denim shadow and Shimmer Goss in Raspberry from the new Bobbi Brown Denim and Rose Collection releasing July!

A sparkling shade of denim blue for eyes!

I’m no stranger to this formula since I fell hard and fast for it with the Bobbi Brown Blushed Pink Collection and was crazy excited to learn that the Bobbi Brown Fall Collection 2010 would include at least one new shade of Sparkle Shadow.

Sparkle Shadows are one of Bobbi’s most interesting formulas as they have a soft creamy feel but they are a powder, just not in the traditional sense. They actually have a creamy, translucent base which is what the pigment and shimmer adhere to but they apply as a powder would with an intensely sparkly finish. Actually, random babbling, Urban Decay released a similar shadow earlier this year which is basically the same concept of Bobbi Brown Sparkle Shadow in the fact that you have a smooth shadow with nice shimmer that glides on sans fall out woe, creasing, and fading. Although UD’s version is nice, my heart belongs to Bobbi’s version since you get far more color payoff with minimal work.

Denim, as per its name, is exactly what you’d expect of the shade. It’s a deep denim blue almost navy with very fine particles of shimmer. Think of a pressed MAC pigment and you’ll understand the concept of the Sparkle Shadow formula. The shade lends a certain mystery to my brown eyes. I used it all over my lid and crease but I imagine Bobbi meant it for use smudged out along the upper lash line for a more exotic look but I couldn’t help myself, it ended up everywhere. I actually did something I normally don’t do, I stuck my finger in and applied by patting onto my lid and smudging up into my crease. This technique really packed the color on and created an even finish.

Sparkle Shadows are a tad difficult to apply using a traditional brush so I like using my fingertip (just discovered this great technique) or going to sponge route to pack colors on. Not sure if this can be considered a bad thing or not but worth a mention!

  • Anyone desiring a smokey blue look for Fall with a little glamorous sparkle!
  • Anyone who favors jeans and wants a look that will flatter the style.
  • Anyone who loves sparkle and shimmer!
  • Big fans of Bobbi’s last Sparkle Shadow release (like me) who’ve been anxious for more of the same!

  • Shimmer and sparkle haters (this has crazy disco shimmer).
  • Anyone who doesn’t have patience during application (you need to be careful during application to get the look down correctly).

Bobbi Brown Denim Sparkle Shadow was a treat for me as a long standing fan of the original Sparkle Shadow releases. I liked the shade alot and thought it gave my eyes a nice mysterious look. Although created for Fall you can easily start using it now and well into the Winter for a frosty, chilled look!

I didn’t give it nearly enough air time here but I’m wearing Bobbi Brown Shimmer Lip Gloss in Raspberry in my photos. Raspberry is a warm rosy berry shade which pairs up lovely with Denim.

Loved both items and give them a nice big hearty Muse Approval for purchase!

The Denim shade looks fabulous on your eyes! So this is like UD’s Stardust shadows, only with better color payoff? Neat!

    • the Muse

hey dd. basically 😀 UD Stardust have good color payoff but it’s a struggle sometimes to get it right. These have richer pigment 😀

      aw and thanks *hugs*

  • Marina

Ah! Gorgeous color…Looks wonderful on you. I usually can’t wait darker blues because they accentuate my dark circles, but it is such a pretty color!

    • the Muse

hi marina aw thanks you’re too kind hun. yea…blues are tricky little suckers with dark circles!

  • JoElla

I just might! But I am quite curious to see what else she has in store for us =)

But I am so drawn to the new estee blue palette that is coming out.

  • Annabella Freeman

Wow that look really suits you! I’ve always thought denim look eyeshadows were a bit goth but you’ve made it look soft and feminine. Obviously it’s helped by the fact you have a pretty face! : )

i must try the sparkle shadows..any recs for my green eyes? you look so pretty!

  • Comrade_Garlic

Pretty shadow. Would a synthetic brush work in applying it?

    • the Muse

comrade yes if you pat color on but I think sponges or a finger work best 😀

  • Gia

So I bought the shadow and the makeup artist at the counter said to NOT put your finger in the shadow. It’s a different formula then other eye shadows and the oil from skin will make it hard and change the eye shadow where u will have to scrape the top off. So I don’t know. I’m going to keep using brushes and sponges

  • jackie

Be careful Muse!! If you stick your fingers in the Sparkle shadow it will matte it down! you gotta use a brush because of the non-compressed formula & oil on your fingers! I don’t want you to ruin that gorgeous new shade of yours (i love it…just used it for the first time today!) I used it OVER TOP platinum cream shadow & caviar shadow liner! i love your blog!

    • the Muse

sponge applicator best for jackie thanks for the help 😀 don’t wanna ruin this gorgeous shade!!!!!!!! oh I like that combo! I have platinum and caviar 😀

Aw thank you so glad you enjoy my babbling hun! *hugs*

I was sooooooooo looking forward to Denim, loved the colour in the pictures and the pan. But I was not able to get any colour payoff, just the sparkles.
Well, money saved I guess 😉

how did you get the colour on your eyes? I love the FOTD you did with it.

    • the Muse

hey nia. thanks xoxo! I used a sponge tip applicator and my fingers although it’s not recommended to use fingers 😀
