Benefit Ultra Lip Shine Review and Swatches

Morning!

Hope everyone is geared up for the weekend. I know I am. I’m off on holiday next weekend thru the following week but I can’t help but wish I was leaving today. Another whole week of work? Noooo I wanna go NOW! But at least I got Saturday and Sunday to enjoy before the grind begins again.

I’ve been mucking about with the new Benefit Ultra Lip Shines this week, I so want to spell that Ulta for some reason. Anyway…did you see that Benefit released Some Kind of Gorgeous Deep? I know alot of people are fans but couldn’t find a proper match, maybe this will be yours.

Anyway, ’bout those Ultra Lip Shines.

Jump!

Benefit Ultra Lip Shine are the newest glosses from Benefit with a brilliant sparkling shine and a lip brush applicator.

Oh get on your knees and thank the Benefit gods for creating a gloss with a lip brush applicator. I really can’t get on board with sponge tips in most cases (MAC I’m talkin’ to you) because they just don’t layer color on well in most cases (doe foot applicators are the exception) so I’m ever so delighted and happy that the Ultra Lip Shines have a lovely brush applicator. The brush builds up color exceptionally well and of course the formula is lovely as well which always helps.

The gloss has a nice lightweight feel sans sticky, tackiness and a subtle watermelon taste. Pigmentation wise they fall into the realms of semi-sheer but can be easily built up for more color pay off. Formula has a jelly-like feel that wears very comfortable on lips and smooths on with minimal fuss and fanfare. The consistency manages to come across thick but not so thick it feels gooey. Each shade has a hint of sparkle but it isn’t overly done in any way and leaves behind just the right amount of shimmer with a high glossy sheen.

I tried three of the shades where were Foxy Lady (Rose), Wild Child (Amethyst), and Back to Fuchsia (Sparkling Fuchsia). If you’re interested in any of the three I’d go with Foxy Lady as it’s a nice, natural shade of rose that will enhance your natural lip shade.

(Foxy Lady, Back to the Fuchsia, Wild Child)

The only come in five shades sadly. I’d have loved a few other shades to indulge in and could do without shades such as Wild Child which I find difficult to wear….does anyone like wearing lilac-y shades of gloss?

  • Anyone who likes gloss that remains lightweight no matter how much they pile it on!
  • Anyone who likes a buildable lipgloss.
  • Anyone who likes a gloss that wears decently long without feeling tacky or sticky (you can get about 3 to 4 hours wear without eating or drinking in these!).
  • Anyone who likes subtle glossy lips but also wants something that can be built up for a sweeter pop of color (these build up nicely without over doing it).

  • Anyone who wants a variety of colors.
  • Anyone who prefers a sponge over a brush applicator.

Benefit Ultra Lip Shines are quite a nice gloss and a value at $18 for 0.17 oz versus MAC Dazzleglass at 0.06 oz for the same price! The brush applicator makes them very appealing plus the formula quite nice however Benefit needs to start releasing more variety in their gloss selections as five shades just don’t cut it for us makeup junkies.

Very nice and worth looking into. I think you’ll enjoy them as much as I did.

Anyone try?

Oh wow great minds think alike! I hauled 4 of these a week ago and have been gushing about these ever since. I *think* these are my new favourite lip glosses…. even more so than Chanel Aqualumieres. Great brush CHECK great formula CHECK lots in the tube (5ml)CHECK. I actually love Wild Child; would you believe that it works as a nude-esque shade on me? (NC35, Asian). The only one that didn’t work on my was the Spiked With Punch which does that pale creamy coral thing on me which looks chalky on my lips. Yes, Benefit need to release more shades!

Hey Bora 😀 was thinking of YOU as I wrote this. NC35? You appear way lighter!!!!! I didn’t like how Wild Child looked on, made me look deathly eep! more warmer shades would be great. Must get the Spiked Punch b/c I have a feeling I’ll like that one 😀
