Lush Tuca Tuca Perfume Review

Walking into a Lush Cosmetics Store is one of life’s greatest joys. Happiness is just taking a good healthy sniff of all that’s on offer at a Lush Store.

Considering Lush doesn’t wrap any of its Bath Bombs, Bubble Bars, Massage Bars, Etc….walking into the shop is a sensory explosion as all the scents from your favorite products get combined and lumped into one great note that can simply be deemed as “that Lush store fragrance…”

Like most Lush fans, I’ve always wanted to capture that essence in a bottle and hide it away so I can sniff it in the comfort of my own home and on occasion I’ve wished that Lush could blend that cocktail together and create a fragrance of it.

Now some folks claim Lush shops are a tad overwhelming in the realms of scent and even nauseating as it’s a tad too much for them however I absolutely love it and most good Lushies do too!

The new Gorilla Perfume that recently launched, the first of many fragrances from Lush under the Gorilla Perfume label, does, in fact, smell like a Lush store to me.

Let’s have a look!

Lush Tuca Tuca Perfume is not going to be for everyone as it comes across a tad strong but it’s mellow, playful, and oh so sexy on skin.

If you’re a Lush fan you’ll catch a sniff and instantly be reminded of both Lush V and Lush Bathos as the scent has a heavier base note of violet but notes of spicy sandalwood, smoky vetivert, and plenty of vanilla lend a warm sensuality to the perfume. Violet remains a very strong note far into dry down however a certain spicy warmth envelopes the entire dry down as well and the fragrance just morphs. I can’t describe in any other way than the fact that it just smells like I stepped into a Lush store.

The blend is sensual and very sexy, there isn’t anything sweet about it and it works well in the evening however remains mellow enough for day wear with a lighter application.

Mind you the scent is a powerful blend and has incredible throw and linger considering the amount of essential oil used in it. So be warned, one spritz will do the job, two might be over doing it and having people around you running for the hills.

Three things I did not like about the perfume, all surround the packaging. I do not like the simple black bottle it comes in. It’s an elegant piece and is very Lush-like in packaging however not seeing how much of the scent is left inside the bottle irritates me a little bit. I’m not keen on the label, I’d have rather had the named on the bottle itself rather than a hanging label. And lasting after a spritz the bottle and surrounding area seems to leak a little which causes the bottle to become a little messy.

Aside from this I love the scent and think that Lush lovers will absolutely be thrilled by it. I do think the scent is pretty strong and could prove to overwhelming for some but for me, well, I just love it.

Totally reminds me of heading into a Lush store.

Wonderful fragrance and very Muse Approved for purchase!

I love it! Tuca Tuca is much more wearable for me then Karma (in perfume form) ever was. I agree, one spritz is enough to spray. I like that it;s highly concentrated that way..it makes up for not seeing how much is in the black bottle since you only need a little to wear lol.

I like the black bottle myself lol.

amen mc. karma is hideous to me. So true you only need a drop and it envelopes you in fragrance, so gorgeous ;D I like the black bottle, it’s rather simple yet elegant but I wish they printed the name on the bottle plus I also wish I could see how much is left ;-D

I got Tuca Tuca and I just LOVE it and want to spray a bunch but 1-2 sprays definitely does the trick. Even though the scent has lasting power it’s very soft and sexy. I love that the scent morphs slightly during the dry down. The man-bot loves it too.

As for the bottle my guess is that it’s dark because of the essential oils, doesn’t light break them down? Also, mine isn’t leaky so maybe you got a bum sprayer.

    • the Muse

michelle agreed, I def went a little crazy when I got it, lushie excitement lol and it was too much but it does really morph down into a mellow, sexy blend. It’s perfect not nearly as strong as V was but soft and gentle ;-D

      Could be so! ;-D

yea 🙁 maybe. It gets a bit messy after I spray sigh!

I’ve entered a lush store only once and yet I do remember that scent you’re talking about. It’s gorgeous in the beginning but I found it rather hard to pick any other scent in there – I was trying to sniff some soaps but they all smelled the same to me… It was rather releaving leaving the store, not that the smell was bad, it’s really strong. I know a couple of shops here with the same problem, and they kinda changed a bit their policy – they now wrap their products, and situate their store in the malls, with their doors always opened 🙂

    • the Muse

eli true it’s hard to really puzzle over what you are smelling when you get into a Lush store ;-D It overwhelms the senses. I can totally roll around in the soap and bombs lol!

  • Heather

I really didn’t like it. I put it on and my man thought it was restroom soap. But I usually dislike floral scents. This did nothing for me. I really truly wanted to like it.

  • Anitacska

I’ve got this! Didn’t like it at first, but after about 12 hrs I realised that I loved the scent that was on my wrist and it was this! Reminds me very much of Guerlain’s Insolence, one of my favourite scents. 🙂

    • the Muse

it’s really gorg isn’t it anita? first sniff is scary but once on it goes soft and mellow!

    • the Muse

Stephanie sniff anyway ;-D you might be surprised, it’s considerably more mellow and soft.

  • Lauren S.

The first sniff is definitely scary. It wasn’t my favorite and I love crazy Lush smells. Sigh…I really wanted this one to be “Lush in a Bottle.” I’m starting to worry I’ll never find it.

  • Ginger

I bought me a solid perfume stick LUST when I holidayed in Germany recently, The jasmine gave me a headache, but I love strong fragrances.

To date I own Vanillary and Lust, I love vanillary, though it gave me a bad case of eczema on my neck.
I did try Tuca tuca, but find it too strong, I never tot it smells like a Lush store, I must try it again.
No lush stores where I came from, But I will travel to netherlands soon and maybe grabbed me a Tuca solid perfume. The Lush solids go on pretty strong and are ez to apply, since they are like fat lippies.

Also love Imogen rose, which smells like Serge lutens La rose.
kinda of like opening a florist fridge and finding the reddest rose blooms, complete with thorns and leaves.. it has a tinge of green mixed with the sweetness of red roses. Very bewitching. Its also the most exp range from Gorilla I see. M I wrong?

    • the Muse

ginger I haven’t tried lust yet but looking forward to it ;-D!

I LOVE vanillity so much! Aw sorry about the eczema, could be the essential oil used. Give Tuca Tuca a second chance, in the bottle it’s VERY strong but it mellows out on skin and has a real softness about it.

I am eager to smell Imogen Rose as well ;-D can’t wait!!!!!!!!!! I believe it is!

  • HautePJ

I stopped by Lush to see the Tuca Tuca massage bars and OMG I do not like the scent at all. It is way strong and the spicyness you describe came off to me as a slightly dank smell….I can’t even describe it. Like moth balls rolled in violet and frankincence??

    • the Muse

it’s def not for everyone PJ ;-D did u try it on your skin? it comes softer, mellow at dry down.

  • Melissa

I loved it at first sniff too and picked it up but I think it made me break out? I used it and then noticed little bumps on my neck that evening – where I sprayed it. I’m waiting for it to clear up and will try it again. Might have to try the massage bar in the mean time.
